Drifting didn't come from the canyons or japan at all. Back in the days, in America, "Racers" were also bootleggers. There was this technique they came up with called the bootlegger's turn. Which we know now as oversteering using the e-brake. When people started driving fast there was oversteering and that technically means as long as there was driving fast there was drifting.
sorry about that this is my brothers name. and i was thinking of D1. Kunimitsu Takahashi would slide during races and that influenced Keiichi Tsuchiya to drift during sanctioned events and WALLA we now have D1 !!!!!!!
