This is pointless and will not speed up startup. This resets the PRAM. This will fix errors with: Status of AppleTalk Serial Port Configuration and Port definition Alarm clock setting Application font Serial printer location Autokey rate Autokey delay Speaker volume Attention (beep) sound Double-click time Caret blink time (insertion point rate) Mouse scaling (mouse speed) Startup disk Menu blink count Monitor depth 32-bit addressing Virtual memory RAM disk Disk cache
Ever notice how the Apple start up sound (TAAAAAAA) sounds almost exactly like the sound in the beatles song "Day in the life" near the end, at about 4 minutes and twenty seconds (at least on my version) in? I know Jobs is a big beatles fan, is there any correlation there or is it just coincidence?
nothing happens when u reset the ram just resets the ramm i do it every few weeks or so and about the disk drive dont do anything unless you really know wat ur doin i would take it to ur local istore they will fix it
hey guys i dont know too much about macs or pc's 4 that matter but im thinking about doing this but wat exactly does it improve???....an will it mess anything up or cause anything 2go wrong???
sweet i just did it and i was questioning to do it or not because of one of the comments but it worked great. I let it make the "chime" sound three times and let it startup. I then turned it off and back on and it started up about 2x as fast as before. thanks
how the heck is a pram reset going to improve boot speed ? its pram reset not ram reset. The ram is naturally reset by turning the machine off anyways ? a Parameter Ram reset may cause a machine to forget where the boot drive is, though it is not possible to cause it to be formatted, is the 3 x times significant ? pram reset shouldn't drastically improve boot speed, and doing on a regular basis i doubt is too healthy for the machine ? explain the tech behind your theory sounds link mumbo to me.
great vid,BTW ppl that asked about vista, the reason that vista takes 4ever to start up is that vista automatically runs a windows defender virus scan every time it is booted up.anyway awesome vid,i'm going to try it out!
I have to turn off wifi (airport) and turn it back on to get it to load a page a lot of times. Do I have errors?

@wwcomputerrepair errors dont slow down your mac?
jpcwa74 6 months ago
@jpcwa74 You don't need to do this unless you see any errors. And they are not booting errors, just that the certain function won't work correctly.
wwcomputerrepair 6 months ago
@wwcomputerrepair How do you know if there are errors?
jpcwa74 6 months ago
@jpcwa74 If things stop working such as sound, keyboard backlight, wi-fi, etc.

resetting the ram?? What do you mean?
Doesn't the ram reset (meaning get completely erased) when it gets turned off?
Is this something like "msconfig and min program boot" under Windows Xp?
honussa 2 years ago
he probably means the p-ram, which is different. p-ram has a bunch of settings stored in it i believe.

Dude zapping the PRAM will not speed up the start up time
PRAM has nothing to do with system RAM
thunder4110 3 years ago
I'd suggest not following this man's instructions.
TotallyLunar 3 years ago
Zapping the PRam doesn't help the startup speed, it just works out corrupted memory segments.

I HATE YOU! This reset my hard drive! OMG! All my files are lost!!!!!
infestor1 3 years ago 2
What??? That is not physically possible... There is no way a RAM reset can formate your Hard Drive or even delete files....
Domreis7337 3 years ago
well it did.
infestor1 3 years ago
What your saying is just a load of bull.... If something did happen to your files it had nothing to do with a Ram Reset
Domreis7337 3 years ago
infestor1 I just did it right now nothing happened. if it happend to your, yours is retarted

Just restart. Then you don't have to be "fast"

Hey i think its only supposed to chime twice. One of them being the initial boot sound the second being the confirm of the cleared PRAM.
