AVG provides more feature and options to protecting a computer than the antivirus by Microsoft. However, the malware prevention and detection by AVG cannot beat Microsoft Security Essentials!

Avast is another good option, they have over 165 million users and they are growing fast.

We prefer AVG but the freeware version of Avast may be preferable to users who don`t like the constant annoyances of the commercial version "buy" pop-ups in the free AVG 2011 version.

@getconnectedtvshow AVG can't protect you from rootkits in real-time. Avast! can. Avast! also offers web shield, sandbox and behavior heuristics. For 2 days from now there will be released Avast! 7 which offers cloud tech, streaming updates (20+ updates per day - avg have ONLY 1-2), file reputation services and phishing filter. So AVG is better only in cleaning viruses and that's where avast! sucks. So Avast! is good prevention and AVG is good at cleaning infected computers.
