You have the nerve to act like you know about tecnology yet you are saying PSanders is using a green screen then you shoul change professions bc u cant even tell what real footage is..
Positive effect = ? Negative effect = viruses, hacking, Identity theft, child porn, bullying, terrorism, Big Brother watching us.OH Yes they monitor everyone i have secret c.i.a. info from uncle Ted who works there. He says they break it down into different sections of the states individually kinda like herding kattle but anyway nope we are never safe on the internet So you can buy all the security software in the world and it does'nt matter.
The internet has also helped to desensitize users. I can get online, watch a video of a suicide, then go eat dinner. someone before the internet.... well, that would be more than odd.
True, but for all the bad, it has been mostly good with finding information in a pinch. There are times when I in a classroom and I was able to "google" information via my iPhone.
I think developing countries had more benefit of the internet as it made it easier to get information .. if a want to search for how to treat flu in the US you have libraries but in Africa you got malaria n HIV. so a guy in Africa google for how to treat flu and get the same answer that a man in Europe or US gets.
I could see almost everything we do in the physical world become virtual also. I don't know if everyone would get totally addicted to it though. I don't know about anyone else, but I like the peace of nature and the outdoors every once in awhile.
The loss of manners is because it's not face to face. It's too easy to dehumanize strangers on here but it's also beautiful to connect on things we care about. It's how yo use the tech not the tech itself.
i has been proven that because kids spend more time on the computer than in the real world their brains develope in a way that makes them unable to create detailed images in their brain, it also decreases the long term memory.
I totally agree with the loss of civility on the internet. I like to think I express myself on the internet much like I do in real life. But anonymity has really created a somewhat anarchistic mindset when it comes to common courtesy on the internet. And I truly believe this can have a desensitizing impact on society.
Think about it, would we have tolerated TV personalities like Simon Cowell before the internet? Just a thought, even though I actually agree with him most of the time. :)
Access to information, ability to share ideas, collaborate on projects, find and view information you want. Easy ability to engage with like minded people & friends from anywhere in the world and potentially meet new people for real outside local area, town, country. Freedom of speech.
Worst
Potentially negative impact on local communities etc. Kids spending more time in virtual spaces vs real world. Potentially being negatively influenced by undesirable internet content. Work all the time
I would like to comment on question #2 - The negative aspect of the internet to me would be the "feeling" of a person. Alot of information that is share from one person to another might lead to false "feeling" or someone real intent. I've posted comments on forum and recieve negative responce, when my intent were not to be rude, but was taken as being so. So many people don't know what constructive criticism, or tell me that I have no place to talk, and they don't even know me.
@tinkertron If they responded as such, it is your responsibility to make sure misunderstandings are worked out. You can't just dump all the blame on everyone else.
Chris, I'm 35 years old and you answered exactly how I was going to respond to the question.
Best:
Access to information. Kids today don't know how hard it was for us to research for our school projects. Going or even just finding a way to get to the local library to research was a big ordeal. Then, once you get there, you find out the books/encyclopeida you really needed was already checked out or missing.
Worse:
Rude & inconsiderate people and trash-talk, as Chris pointed out.
I don't know about the whole "not-having-to-look-up-information-in-an-actual-book" thing. When we do research papers at my high school, we can only use one internet source, and the rest has to come from books. So I don't think that's totally true yet.
I think the most negative part of the internet is lack of proper socialization. When you are chatting, no feelings can get across, you can't tell tone of voice, and you can't read facial expression.
I think people forget the internet is still a personal way of communicating. There are people on the other end of "the series of tubes". We can develop great relationships over the web that are just as vital as the ones with our neighbors. We can also cause just as much change, if not more, as we can with traditional gatherings. I feel so attached to people I talk to online even if they are on the other side of the world. I find my self telling stories about online conversations and conflicts.
part 2..... to make arpanet more realiable then the phone companies made there own computer protocal which banks started using to keep transactions and connect with others and major companies as well then when microcomputers came and through a dial up modem you could visit your bacnk account and the airport schaudle after that everything took off and internet was born
internet started as arpanet using radio signals in the late 40's so the military could connect to there allies aswell after they discovered that nucleur impacts destroyed radio signals they created a shot a bunch of facilities every couple og kilometers that were connected together
Ease of information is both a good and bad aspect of the internet. Yes it so convenient but that also means that ANYONE can post.
Because of this, you can't trust the accuracy of internet sources as opposed to printed information which is alot more carefully written to guarentee accuracy.
I have had several professors not even allow internet sources to be used for research because of this though shutting out this venue of info is not the answer as long as we use it carefully & inquisitively.
This is a huge topic, i don't know where to start from... Since my sector is IT engineering and e-business, i can say from that view that internet completely changed the business and industry models, mainly by reducing the biggest cost a company may have to deal with: the cost of product searching. Except from that, functional costs are way cheaper, a simple example: a business that uses electronic invoices saves at least 400% more money instead of using paper invoices. And the list goes on...
I have to agree the number one thing that the internet is good for is making information easy to get, here are a few examples.
911, Military's, Parents, Search & Rescue, Library's, Hospitals, Convenience Stores and Bank also so so many more people use the internet to send or receive information this way.
Its a tool that can be used in every day life in almost every person can get some benefit from the internet.
That being said it can certainly be used for bad, we all know that''
Well the impact on me is that it has provide a job for many years as I am a web developer.
