Great video!! I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian (former Roman Catholic), but I completely agree with the points you make in this video. We Orthodox Christians in America are standing behind you against the government mandate that forces religious institutions to pay for contraception which is a total violation against religious freedom.
@ChrisStefanick I attend a Serbian Orthodox Church, but I was chrismated in the Greek Orthodox Church. The Serbian Orthodox is closer to where I live. They use the Julian Calendar though, so Christmas for me is January 7th. When I was at the Greek Orthodox, Christmas was on December 25th. It's all the same faith though. Russian, Greek, Serbian, Romanian Orthodox is all the same faith.
For those that believe in Sola Scriptura, please find that in the bible? And for those that believe in Sola Fide, please read Matthew 25, 1 Corinthians 13:2 and the book of James. Seek and you shall find.
"RELIGIONS make an important contribution in GUIDING HUMANITY towards a BETTER FUTURE. They (RELIGIONS) help it (HUMANITY) TURN to God, Creator and Father of humankind. They (RELIGIONS) position ALL PEOPLE in a WIDER, COMMON HORIZON. - Cardinal Reinhard Marx of Germany at the San't Egidio prayer meeting >>Yet, Jesus said, "Enter by the NARROW GATE; for WIDE is the gate and BROAD is the way that leads to DESTRUCTION, and there are MANY who go in by it." (Matthew 7:13) Yes, Rome is the Harlot.
@stinkygeorgia1 First - you keep quoting Cardinal Marx. I don't even know who he is. We don't think every Cardinal speaks infallibly. BUT - I do agree with his statement above. What part of it do you take issue with? It all applies to Christianity. Do you think Jesus doesn't unite people ina wider, commmon horizon? Do you think Jesus doesn't turn people to God (himself)? Do you think he doesn't guide people to a better future? Stinky...my sister in Christ...you confuse me.
@ChrisStefanick Cardinal Marx, speaking in Germany at an inter-religious summit sponsored by San't Egidio, says "RELIGIONS" "...help it (HUMANITY) TURN to God" and "position ALL PEOPLE in a WIDER, COMMON HORIZON." Sorry, but he is not addressing Christians. Religion - all the religions of the world - is "[helping] (humanity) turn to God," says Reinhard Marx. How so? Where's Jesus Christ in Islam? In Buddhism? In Hinduism? Where's Jesus in religion? He's not. link next.
@stinkygeorgia1 We Catholics don't condemn others to hell. That's above our pay grade. You have worked salvation into a neat formula that's found nowhere in scripture - and have excluded all but evangelicals (which have only existed for the past few hundred years or so) based on your man-made formula.
Jesus is the only way to heaven, but he can work outside of what you see to get people there.
@ChrisStefanick "You have worked salvation into a neat formula that's found nowhere in scripture" - ChrisStefanick > Again, Jesus said, "when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8) You sir, are so blinded by your Tradition ("your man-made formula"), that you totally discount the word of God, the God-made formula: "Nor is there salvation in ANY OTHER, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”(Acts 4:12)
@stinkygeorgia1 Sorry - Calvin's formula is from the 1500. No one believed like you did until then. It's man made. Find the "sinner's prayer" in scripture...if one prayer is all you had to do to get "in," don't you think Jesus would have taught it to people?
@ChrisStefanick And Jesus said to Thomas: "because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29) It's sounds like you are not blessed, for you have believed in the teachings of Rome ("your man-made formula"), instead of Jesus Christ Himself, the God-made formula. Have you ever heard of John 3:16? You need to open your heart to Jesus Christ and "no other name."
@stinkygeorgia1 I do believe in Jesus. & that he is our salvation. & that he's the way to heaven. I also accept John 3:16...and with John 6 which talks about the Eucharist/eternal life. I don't agree with man-made, evangelical theology, (the teaching of Germany in the 1500's) that everyone who hasn't prayed your sinner's prayer is going to burn in hell. It's taught nowhere in the history of the Church - or in scripture.
@IdaSputum Jesus was all for both private and public (communal) prayer. It's not one or the other. If someone is doing it out of pride...I'd agree with you, we shouldn't do that. But JC also said not to judge, & for you to assume that our priests and bishops are leading public worship out of pride is wrong. I know priests and bishops personally who are among the most humble people in the world. As for the Vatican being organized crime...dude...that's a stretch...
@ChrisStefanick No. Jesus said those who show off in public have their reward right here on Earth and that God hears you speak privately when you pray. God never sleeps. I think you have a lot of gay friends who are into the pomp and ceremony of Catholicism & it blinds you to the upside-down cross on the Popes chair & his distortion of Jesus message.
Jesus is the only way to God, not the Pope
This is a public forum, inviting comment, - to call it 'judging' is hypocritically judgemental of you
@IdaSputum My point is that public displays of faith are not always motivated by "showing off." Jesus wasn't forbidding public praying/sharing of faith/charity...he did it himself!!! as did the apostles. 4 u 2 assume all Catholic leadership is motivated by pride because they're unafraid to worship communally and publically is judgemental...and frankly, rediculous. U can't see into my bishop's soul.
@IdaSputum Re. the upside down cross image...St. Peter was crucified for his faith. He told his executioners, "I'm not worthy to die like the Lord, crucify me upside down." & that's how he died. It's very sad to me when evangelicals like u make such quick judgements of sacred things like that...did you think the pope had a satanic image on his chair? A quick google search would've educated you.
bottom line religion => morality=> God and happiness =>a better world and relationship with our creator. People who have a religion have a moral structure and therefore tend to live better, happier lives. Thanks for the video Chris!
@greenbacksaver If i were religious i would be ashamed of you for your complete ignorance. The bottom line is that you and other theists cant imagine living in a world were no god exists and people have morals and dont you think that and atheist would live their life to the fullest if he or she knew it would be the only one they would ever have?
@donnoestyll - how is this a response to my video? Anyway...I agree with you that Atheists can live a moral life. I don't think they're all bad people. But, of course, if an atheist thought the best way to make use of "the only life he'll ever have" is by hurting others & living an a-moral life, why not?! After all, the human race is just a bunch of highly evolved, self-conscious, galactic sludge. There is ultimately no compelling reason why an atheist should live a moral life.
@ChrisStefanick thank you for proving my point about most theist. People who kill people are mentally insecure it has nothing to do with religion, unless you are killing in the name of religion. Also the compelling reason to not murder someone if your are an atheist is that you will go to jail or die.... did i not explain that life is above all in the perspective of humans. If you were willing to explore the laws and complexities of the universe i would bet that you would find more joy in life!
@donnoestyll - the compelling reasons for a theist not to murder is that life has inherent meaning, dignity, and value, because we have a creator. We are not an accident of evolution. By your logic, if an atheist could get away with a crime, then why not? Joy?...there's a joy that knowing the creator of all things gives me that nothing else can compare to. My life is JOY! :) Seriously...
@zazen108 Delusional=anyone who looks at a painting & denies an artist. Anyone who looks at a book and denies an author. Anyone who looks at creation and denies a creator.
You turned your Facebook into a Public Figure page? I was just going to send you a message.. But anyway, what was the man in "Why I Hate Religion, but Love Jesus" trying to say? I don't really understand his message..
@nic6673 He was saying that religion (ritual, organization, etc.) is man made and is thus evil. There's so many problems with that...hopefully my little clip addressed some!
"Do we hear the millions scream from their graves that atheism has claimed more lives through communism than all the worlds religions?" Would you kindly explain that to me sir? I would like to make sure I understand what you mean by that.
@brenR700 1.7 million were killed in one small communist country alone in 1 incident, the killing fields of Cambodia. I don't think all people are faith are peaceful & I don't think all atheists are murderers. But don't let people get away with the blanket claim that religion is the source of all, or even most of the bloodshed on earth. I don't think that if we can "imagine" no religion that we'll have peace. Communism proved that wrong...and still continues to...
atheism is the absence of a belief in a deity. that's it. Also statism is not the same as communism. maybe if you spend 5 min on Wikipedia rather than listening to your stupid preachers, politicians and media hacks you wouldn't get them confused. Cambodia was not a communist country.
Wiki can't think for you. You have to know what you're searching for.
Cambodia was communist 1975 to 79 and they slaughtered almost 2 million people.
Again, I'm not saying all atheists are murderers, but the claim that religion is the source of all violence and that lack of it is the solution has been proven wrong by very recent history.
Great video!! I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian (former Roman Catholic), but I completely agree with the points you make in this video.
