  • I am so glad I moved out of there years ago.

  • After a year of watching this, I still live in Rochester. Thanks for the thumbs-ups!

  • if you dont like rochester then leave people have ny attitudes are we not in new york state if people wouldnt piss us off then they would be ok. GET THE F*** OUT IF YOU CANT STAND THIS PLACE SO WHO CARES DONT FORGET WHERE YOU CAME FROM BUT WHEN ROCHESTER IS A DESTINATION DONT COME BACK IM NOT LEAVING HOME . WHY NOT TALK GOOD ABOUT THIS PLACE WE HAVE A LOT OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS TO BE PROUD OF AND THIS IS A WEALTHY CITY

  • Rochester is not a city of poverty its very wealthy... no offense but you might be poor but not us and the house at 1:27 is no longer boarded up some people live there.

  • I can't believe that I traveld thousand of miles across Planet Earth to come to a city like Rochester. Once I came here , i took my RIT admission paper and put in The toilet. NO BODY SHOULD EVER COME HERE. IT'S A DEAD PLACE. Hopefully that I will be admitted into UW in Settle , WA (L).

  • as i'm watching this, all i'm doing is loling XD

  • 3:00 Can of Worms FTW

  • Rochester is unfortunately a textbook example of a city that went to hell; I know, I lived there 30 years. The only thing left is the "attitude" of old Rochesterians!

  • You seemed pretty desperate for footage of "hood" areas. Putting He's as a ghetto shop? LOL

  • damn i thought this was rochester mn

  • @Deangilo1014 GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE

  • @HannnahBalector fuck you faggot u stank bitch

  • @Deangilo1014 U REAL MAD

  • @HannnahBalector exactly if they dont want to be here they can leave this is home just dont come back when rochester is a destination

  • I died when I saw Cadillac Hotel

  • I hate rochester. I want to move very bad and I will once i'm done with school.

  • At 2:09 - 2:11 I worked in that building 20 years ago It was over run with roaches and we redid the apartments and got rid of them. The city redid the street and took away all the parking. The store front got all of its glass shot out of it and thats why it was walled up. Store could never get rented out

  • Bubble Tea ROCKS!

  • Rochesterians are pussies. I used to think there was ghetto here too, until I took a trip to Detroit. Picture the worst part of Clifford ave, thats downtown.

  • Don't mess with my Rochester.

  • Do you like to shop or want to save lots of money, click on my name and check out my site

  • i love going to He's for bubble tea

  • i livez herezz!!

  • @MichaelAlphonsePhoto They need to get in there and do the same thing they did in nyc come down hard on the crime

  • @blackmesa10 They wont though. Even if they did the people here suck anyway.

  • @blackmesa10 They do come down hard on crime. It only seems to be the cause of more crime, though.

  • @MichaelAlphonsePhoto :( Attitudes are half of the problem here.

  • Hey Everyone, This is the Rochester Pop Band "Three Minutes of Fame" We are currently working on spreading our songs out there so y not first spread it in Rochester, NY!

~Listen to "Lets Meet In Vegas" OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO! and if u like make sure to spread the owrd around in our great city of Rochesterrr!!!!! peacae

  • This video fails to convey any points about the region, it really just is a montage of modern sights in the downtown and surrounding areas (evidentially not the best areas). An empty Midtown Plaza, boarded up houses, and adult enteratainment shops are not the regions only sights. Why didn't you go down any of Park Avenue, East Avenue, the Cornhill region, or any parts of the surrounding suburbs. If you don't like something have more thoughtful reasons other than a car trip.

  • Thumbs up if you live in Rochester, NY and want to get the hell out!

  • @PocketJMC Rochester Ny I live near Chili ave.18 years old and I remember everything here in this video.

  • much worse in tampa!

  • I live in rochester and I hate it. This video is right on the money. People are assholes here.

  • There is a plague in every major city in America, it causes laziness, corruption, a total lack of morality and crime.

  • Looks like most of NYS So sad. New york state was once a beautiful place with jobs for all. Industry was going down and Nafta finished the job. Thank you Ross Perot

  • Rochester sucks. I got way away from there. No jobs, bad schools and the murder rate is 4.5 times the national average. Rochester was the only city besides NYC in New York that had its own mob boss. on columbus day in 1970 they bombed the monroe county office building the u.s. couthouse and the federal building. a few weeks later they set off 6 more bombs. Not a good place to live.

  • @TheJrgriffin the mob was bombing everywhere in the 70s and buffalo had its own boss, actually a family...so get your shit straight

  • This is what Liberals and Progressive Socialists want to do to every U.S. city.

  • @chaumont20 Correct. And conservatives are too lazy to keep them out. So thank ALL of these idiots, they've ruined our great cities. Buffalo, Rochester, Pittsburgh in the Northeast. God, I'm a Buffalo person, and I bet if I went back just 40-50 years I'd shit bricks. Same with Rochester fans. And even Detroit, Chicago, Indianapolis, for the midwest, and countless other cities in the United States. These cities are wrecked!

  • This inpires me to make my own video to show the true beauty of Rochester, that you, unfortunately, do not see, and probably never will. I hope someday, you will. I guess the bottom line, point is... negative, versus positive imagery, and message.

  • This is funny but true..

  • Rochester is one of the most depressing cities in the USA. It's ugly, the people are dangerous, the sun NEVER shines, it's cold, the food is terrible - it needs to be knocked down. We should let it go back to nature.

  • @hornplayer100 Come say it to a Rochesterians face and they'll knock you the fuck out in less than 2.2 seconds you fucking cocksucker!

  • @hornplayer100 Say that about Buffalo and I'll knock you the fuck out too!, and I'm not even a Buffalonian, I just defend what Buffalo was, and depressed or not still even in parts is. Same with Rochester, well said redcomic619!

And Buffalo still has mouthwatering food today, and I bet you Rochester does have plenty great foods too!

  • Funny shit its so true

  • Explain then, if this film is so modern and up to date, why it did not film the much, much larger and newer Mall at Irondequoit? It's empty with only two major stores. An entire baseball stadium size Mall completely empty!!! Why? Maybe bc it's in a nice neighborhood? God forbid that this idiot should show an actually NICE neighborhood in Rochester. Please shove this film down the KKK's butt. Thank you.

  • PRAussie, check the date the film was posted... four years ago!!! I don't think the Mall at Irondequoit was an empty mall then!!! (Although I don't know that)

  • Actually, yes it does look like this PRAussie you jackass. It's the perfect representation of this town. Rochester is the biggest crap hole city I've ever seen only second to Detroit, and I've seen A LOT of cities.

  • @PRAussie You act like those are good things you described.

  • this taping is really true the roc is good for one thing they have plenty of food places you will never go hungry but its a depressing lil city i was born there i know

  • Looks like their are a lot of business opportunities their! Let me guess... Welfare programs and high taxes?? Hmmmm..... Change those policies and you would be amazing and how fast blighted areas pop back! Those old neighborhoods go for top dollar in the city I live in. In fact I love living in the old city. Just get your city government to stop accepting federal welfare dollars. Close the soup kitchens and the homeless and drug people go to other cities. Its really easy to fix these things.

  • BanjoNaps, the real reason Rochester and other rust belt cities are blighted, and now Birmingham, Atlanta and other sun belt cities are becoming blighted, is because of exposrting of jobs due to so-called "free trade!!" Even the financial bubble and collapse was caused by "free trade." Put tarrifs and barriers back, and we will start re-creating jobs here at home!

  • The jobs are being "exported" the south you idiot.

  • And what part of the South do you live in?I'm in the South and we've lost so many jobs to foreign countries it ain't funny!

  • Central Virgina, you are mainly losing those jobs to robots. Get used to it.

  • And the robots are probably in China!

  • The USA economy is about 25% of the global economy. Manufacturing is about 20% of the USA economy. That makes the USA by far the largest manufacturing society on the planet. Our problems lie in agriculture. So much fuel is wasted on the way we do food in this country. in 1900 about 30% of the pop was in farming. Now its less then 1%. THAT is the problem. The "jobs" being lost are repetitive retard jobs. Good riddens! Send them to the fields! Skilled labor is in high demand.

  • Manufacturing used to be a much larger ortion of the US economy.

  • 2009 was the 3rd best year on output in human history for a single country. The other 2 years were 2006 and 2007. Our consumption is what is out of control. Employment in manufacturing jobs has been in decline sense the 70s. That is due to automation and it is a good thing. We need more farmers and we need to stop "buying" so many imports. Thats it. Our manufacturing sector could enter the 3rd industrial revolution if it was unleashed into the free market, but its still very healthy as is.

  • The problem is, we let anything and everything be imported into our country under the rubric of "free trade." Worse is the fact that some other countries feel free to put up tarrifs and barriers against our expoorts -- particularly the Asian powerhouses we import the most goods from. And worst of all is our oil dependency. I don't know how that can come to a good end.

  • Com'on guys, Rochester is not that bad! I have been to Pittsford for 5 weeks and that was wonderful there! and Naz College is one of the best !

  • of course u gon say it aint that bad bein out in tha burbs y dont u come vist jefferson ave, genesee street matta fact the whole westside n then u tell me how nice Rocheseter iz den

  • LOL.. I pointed out a bunch of spots..Rochester da Shit ..lol lil borin doe..Alot changed since they made this..

  • lol that si the getto not rochester lolololol

  • wow really? come live in rochester and see for urself. its a wholeeee lot better then wherever ur from and ur just to afraid to admit it. rochester is not a gd city of poverty. why the heck wuld it be so well known if the whole city was poor?!

  • 2:06, I've eaten at that restaurant many times, not bad.

  • HELLS YA!!!!!!! You SAID it dude....freakin drizzle pilla man

  • Thank god I'm moving the hell away from this shithole of unimportance and decay. Rochester is the most boring city in the world. Seriously, this video is even too much of a compliment to us. There should be no videos about Rochester. I'm incredulous when anyone says they've heard of the city before. There's no reason for Rochester to even be called a city, it's a glamorized town, mind you a town full of ghettos and ugly developed suburbs. The suburbs are probably the worst thing about the Roc.

  • Especially Webster. I would laugh and laugh if Webster were to be obliterated from the planet.

  • And where are you moving to? New York City I think ive seen you post in a video comment before? You say Rochester has a ghetto LMFAO! When you move to NYC your going to have your shit rocked everyday. If your to much of a pussy to live in Rochester then 10 bucks says you will be out of NY in a few months.

  • Wow, way to exercise selective comprehension you dickweed. I don't care about ghettos, what I care about is that nothing interesting happens here. I am definitely not leaving Rochester because I'm scared. If I'm scared of anything it's that I currently live in the same area as homophobic assholes like you, because according to your profile you really have some issues you need to work out. Let me reiterate this. I don't care about ghettos because they are supposedly "scary." I hate them because

  • They are full of low class trash like you. Only too stupid to operate a computer so you must be from Irondiquoit or something.

  • Hey, go shove a Twinkie up your ass you dickhead. And, no i'm not from Irondequoit (you can't even spell, dipshit) I live in the city. So go fuck yourself you stupid ass motherfucker. I hope some asshole gang member high on LSD rapes you when your living in NYC you cocksucker motherfucker.

  • An asshole high on LSD??? LMAO

A gang of violent hippies! Whatever am I to do!

    HAHAHAHA

    LSD

  • Are you sure your from Rochester and not Memphis? When you drive downtown and you see those groups of 3-4 black people selling shit do you think its rice or drugs? Fucking retard. LSD isnt just for hippies, douchebag. Go hang with those dirty pizza eaters downstate, nobody wants you here anyway.

  • Wow, thanks for injecting racism into this you prick. I guarantee you that the majority of people dealing with LSD are wimpy white kids and dirty old flower children, not black gangbangers. Most drug activity related to gangs has to do with crack, meth, heroin, hard drugs that actually cause addiction. Pot or coke, even, but not LSD. They may sell LSD occasionally but it's a drug from a different decade, and you definitely are NOT going to get attacked by a black person on LSD

  • How about I spread peanut butter on my balls and you lick it off you faggot. You would like that

  • Hey, Cram it! What your saying is true but your tone sucks. I don't like anyone who thinks they are "better" than Rochester or think they are too important for it. It's bad yeah but the people there are good.

My dad was born there and what's left of my family still lives there and sometimes I wish I lived in a place as boring as Rochester.

  • This video is really old...most of this stuff do not even exist anymore..like midtown plaza and etc.. This video is not making a good picture of rochester,Ny ..i dont think this is cute at all... Some of this stuff is true but, they didnt have to make a video about it..were not the only city that is in poverty.. Rochester has Achievers and etc.. as Well.. N i know because I was Born And I AM as of right now Still in Rochester!! I love alot about my city...((585))

  • big frickin deal hippie!

  • you sound like a Dbag

  • you sound like a cry baby waaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yah that makes alot of sense,

  • i know it does

  • sarcasim jerk off

  • no shit sherlock?

  • Here's another tale from the bowels of Crotchfester: A friend of mine lived in a East Ave. Commons apartment and had a homeless person living in her walls between her and the next apartment. This individual would even dump trash in her apartment through a small hole in the wall.

  • Damn!

  • Not sure if they are all still there, but here are a few Crotchfester eateries where I've been threatened for money: Aria's, Stromboli's, and the McDonald's on East Ave. A friend of mine was accosted at a fine dining restaurant called the Brasserie. Another friend of mine saw someone get shot at a restaurant called "Pagoda's." The only positive aspect about the city is that Wegman's is awesome.

  • Ok, let's talk about Rochester's "famous" cuisine. The "garbage plate" is the most disgusting thing I've ever seen/tasted. It literally looks like someone barfed on a plate. And this is Rochester's prized cuisine??? I guess it seems appropriate if you consider the surroundings...

  • Wegmans has been downsizing lately and now there are only 2 left on the outskirts of the city...everything here is ASS. No jobs...yet the cost of living is high.

Everything downtown is closed at 6pm. And besides there's nothing downtown but court houses and jail now. No place to shop...it sucks here.

  • First of all, unless that kid was hanging out on Ave D (all you true Rochesterians know exactly where I am talking about), he was not involved in a drive by shooting.

As every city, there are bad parts of Rochester. Yes, our "thugs" seem to think they are the toughest, but as long as you dont piss them off or walk down any dark allies alone (which no smart person would do anywhere), you wont get mugged (like his "smart" friends supposedly did).

Though I cant wait to move.

    I do love Rochester.

  • Ok, how do I begin a response to this? First of all, I didn't get shot on Ave. D, I got shot on the University of Rochester's campus walking out of class in the AFTERNOON. This only goes to show that there is no such thing as a "safe" part of Rochester. Second of all, I'm college educated...are you??? Forget the dark allies, I know several people who were mugged on East Ave. and Gibbs. St. in daylight. WAKE UP....your city SUCKS.

  • Well said, hornplayer100.

  • Haha, this is hilarious. I live in rochester now and have to agree that this focuses on only the bad.

I'd like to know where 09musicaddict was eating though because that's not exactly customary...

  • Rochester is the kind of city where panhandlers threaten to kill you while your eating in a nice restaurant. Some of the restaurant owners there have totally given up trying to shoo them away, so prepared to share your food and give them some "paper money" while your at it!

  • Rochester is seriously the most depressing city I've ever seen. During college, I was a victim of a dry-by shooting and several of my friends were mugged at gun or knife point. Someone should do this country a favor and burn this city to the ground and start fresh.

  • Where are you originally from?

  • That "Hotel Cadillac" is full of pimps and hos

  • don't forget the crack heads...we must not forget the crackheads.

  • or the panhandlers...

  • We all used to call this city "Crotchfester" when we lived there

  • Rochester is the ugliest and worst city in the United States...not to mention a very dangerous place. Trust me...I've lived there.

  • Ive been here my whole life and you do have the right to voice your opinion but i do DARE TO DIFFERENT.....585 all day

  • the clock of nations is at the airport now

  • Rochester will always be home. This video is funny though but made in the late 80's or early 90's. though.

  • ummm...this is only the bad side of rochester. its an okay video but seriously...why bash your city like this publicly???????

  • ha that was funny, but i agree with what others said before me. ANY city has these problems. You just focused on the bad. Park ave, east ave, Kodak, Xerox are just a few i didn't see in this video. There are many nice parts of the city.

  • All of you Rochester people bashing Buffalo are one of the many reasons I moved the hell away from ROT city.

  • That was awesome, but I don't really like the whole city of poverty thing. I take offense to that. Rochester is bangin.

  • hellz yea

  • From Rochester, now living in Detroit, and I'll tell you your video looks like sunshine compared to some other cities . Get out and get some perspective. One could find decay in ANY CITY.

  • FUCK ALL YAH

    IM FROM ROCHESTER

  • don't worry guys, Mayor Duffy is on his way!

  • Buffalo, NY is the Ugly Step-Sister city of Rochester.

  • rochester is pretty damn dangerous for a small/medium sized city, especially in the conkey ave, plymouth exchange, and some parts of 19th ward. (jefferson, frost, gennesse st)

  • I *guarantee* you that the people who made this video are COMPLETE pussies.

  • I'm 20, was born and raised in and around the city of Rochester. Lived in the City, Gates, Greece twice, Spencerport, and went to HS in Brockport. I am now out in Colorado for college and I must say, It is really sad to see how run-down my hometown is. The place I'm in now is flourishing and it's tough to say that I'm from Rochester when THAT is what it means. Here's to wishing on a miracle and the Rock can turn things around in the not-so-distant future.

  • You're stupid.

  • sorry sorry... im still laughing... Stable People hahahahha

  • I'm just seeing this now ! whoa... i love this video...good work. =] i'm speachless =] =] =]

  • great video but very sad and hard to watch. There is just a cloud of despair that hovers over rochester and buffalo

  • A cloud of despair over Buffalo?? lol no.... Rochester for sure but Buffalo has a lot going on these days,

  • great I'm glad we won those 4 superbowls, and the economy is good again

  • Buffalo has a lot going on? Like what? UNEMPLOYMENT AND CRIME!

  • Ah man, I'm staying in one of the "rough" neighborhoods for college. Our house is on a little street just northwest of the city called Maryland.

At least our neighbor to the left isn't horrible.

  • Rochester's a great city

  • Bittersweet vid

  • yea rochester has sure changed alot, back in the earley 60,s was nice, used to work @ hennens cycle shop on court st,hung out at the pythod jazz club, and the gallerie 65, on court street, them were the days cheers

  • This video is so true. Yes, Rochester does have a lot of great things but first impressions are everything. You often do have to drive through rough neiborhoods to get to Rochster's good features. As far as residential areas go the best neighborhoods are the Park and East Ave area, Most of the rest of the city is like what this video shows.

I live in Chili and it only takes me a few minutes to get to the 19th Ward and Bullshead neighborhoods, both which are very rough.

  • I will add to my last comment that the City Government squanders the taxpayer's money on top of all this. The failed Fast Ferry is an example. Also High Falls and the proposed Renaisance Square project. Not to mention the crappy shool system they have.

  • A RPD officer was shot in the head by a 14 year old boy over the weekend. That says a lot about the state of Rochester.

  • Did the inner city people with a ghetto mentality celebrate? X-( I know from this nation's experience that had the RPD officer shot the kid in the head, there would have been riots!

  • 19 ward is actually one of the best places in rochester...

  • I should have said the Chili Ave area of 19th. Ward. There are many boarded up houses there. The area around Brooks Ave., Genesee Park Blvd., Thurston Rd. and Scottsville Rd. is really nice. Chili Ave. is at the edge of 19th Ward anyway.

  • i remember genesee beer. "every sip is like a trip to snow country."

  • This video tries to be provocative, but ends up being ignorant. Rochester faces many of the same struggles as other cities in the "rust belt." The poverty is real and the violence is real.

But, I have lived in the City of Rochester my entire life, and this video only presents the worst--there is alot more to this place.

Where you live is what you make of it.

It doesn't help to pretend that you are exposing something that no one knows, and it doesn't help to fear-monger either.

  • Agreed. I was born in Rochester, moved away to Orange County, California for 8 years then moved back to Rochester. I live very luxuriously on Charlotte Beach in Rochester suburb of North Greece, but as far as taste can go, this is pretty much it. Nothing about this city is appealing. Charlotte Beach is pretty much the only nice place in the city I found myself wanting to live. Violent, poor, ugly, and cold - there is nothing good to say about Rochester, NY. Its a dead, deserted city.

  • Nothing about what you just said is an exaggeration, just as I'm not being sarcastic.

  • Will, you´ve got to do a parody about the suburbs next.

  • RGN SUCKS =]

  • If you have to be poor anywhere, Rochester is as good a place as any. Thanks for showing every one the bad spots. How many were there? Ten? Wow! Visit and live in a few other cities and you'll realize Rochester is a heck of a nice town to live in.

  • Is the crime bad in Rochester?

  • There were two homicides within the first three days of 2009. Crime is ten times worse once spring and summer arrive. I am moving out of my suburban home because Gates, NY will become little Rochester eventually. There have been stabbings in Greece, NY already. Twenty years ago, Gates and Greece were nice communities. It will be nice to move to a town where I do not have to carry a concealed knife while I work outside.
