i never completed this level i completed the rest of thief gold and thief 2 this is the only level i missed......too much effort ... Wtf is rust gas anyway? it destroys grass or trees or something idk
@zerker12568901 The rust gas was meant to destroy everything organic, plants, animals and people, everything except Karras who would go on making more of the "builders children" and create the Builders Paradise.
As much as I love this game's plot, setting, atmosphere and pretty much everything about it, I could never take this guy as a villain when I kept hearing Droopy talking.
In T3, in the museum, there is the Victrola that plays Karras with the epic T2/T1 music. It was during that moment that I realized that T3 wasn't all that. That recording and the music was so damn creepy. However, Shalebridge Cradle might have been the scariest level ever.
Because his speech impediment is what made him human. It's what made him what he hated the most. Showing us this part of him further deepens his character, and makes room for the possibility that Karras went mad seeing all the other organics as imperfect just because he viewed himself as imperfect. And I think his voice problems had something to do with this.
To cut a long story short: it's called character development.
I understand what you're saying, but I never thought that he had an outright speech impediment. He just had a silly voice. Giving him a physical ailment -- like a crippled limb or an incurable disease -- would supply the physical imperfection aspect of his character without making me want to laugh whenever he opens his talk.
I know where you're coming from, but in my opinion, seeing him limping or suffering from a disease makes him much more the typical villain than someone who's impediment is borderline-comical. It shows that not all true evil geniuses have to be the old-school "badass mofo" style.
Well, in Thief: Deadly Shadows, Artemus enlists Garrett's help by promising to allow him to listen to the prophecies. So Artemus probably kept him in suspense, knowing that he could use the thief's curiosity as barter for services.
I know Karras is 100% evil, but damn, his speech impediment is so damn cute.

Is that a middle game's cut-scene or an altyernate game ending? And I wonder woh Thief 4's opening and ending movies will look like.

Why did they give Karras such a silly voice? It was kind of hard to take him seriously as a villain because of that.

i agree.... this shows how a leader can be charismatic even with some physical problems.
If we see our history... we're full of mad and strange people who have made history.....

All will be swept away with the breath of the builder.
The Rich that spuurrrned me!
The city watch who BETRAYED ME!
THE LOATHSOME PAGANS, THE MINDLESS COMMONARRES!
Even the loyal followers! All will receive the blessing......and the cleansing....
But will they lift up their arms and praise Karras as the vapors make them pure?
NAAAAAAAY, THEY WILL WAIL AND SCREAM MOST UNGRATEFUL!!!

You think? I think it added a lot to his character.. I don't know how I would depict him if he had a normal voice :P This makes him very special..
He must have been pretty lonely.. Brilliant game -
