  • Pretty arrogant of Maynard to compare a Tool show to the Grand Canyon. Don't get me wrong, they are both kick ass. It's just very arrogant.

  • @rmed30 You just don't understand what he's trying to say. He's not comparing a Tool show to sight seeing at the Grand Canyon. He's trying to say that you get a different experience when you just see pictures or video's it, rather than actually being there.

  • @mark94baller : Yeah. ANd in doing so he just so happened to compare it with one of the most visually spectacular landscapes in the universe. He didn't say 'Have you ever seen a picture of Walmart?'

  • I wonder if Adam and Maynard have landmines on their front lawns to scare away the poparazzi

  • lmao look at maynards reactions

  • Die Eier Von Satan

  • I agree that being there is the best..but I like both experiences. It would be nice to kick back with a few brews at the house and throw in a Tool DVD on full blast.

  • what a Tool.. the blue ray experience is sometimes better then being there unless you can afford front row.

  • @backroadjunkie Tool shows are better from the back. you actually get to enjoy the concert as a whole, especially their mind blowing laser light show. and a blu ray experience will never justify the atmosphere of actually being at one. not to mention, do you know how annoying it is to be at a concert where all you see are cameras of people recording and flashes?

  • When you can't afford fucking Tool tickets, seeing video of them live would be the next best thing. I have and enjoy Rush DVDs and I've seen Rush live, and it is completely obvious that they are not the same experience. I think most people who watch their favorite bands on TV or on the internet are well-aware that a live concert is a completely different experience. Are Tool really suffering from lack of ticket sales? Come on.

  • Maynard...what a TOOL!

  • @British0Pixie that had better be a shitty pun and nothing more...

  • @splintercellchicken

...and if it isn't 'tosses-a-chicken's-salad' boy, what of it?

  • @British0Pixie wow could you at least come up with a better insult? how does that have jack shit in common with my youtube name, besides the word chicken? i always thought british people were at least supposed to SEEM smart at the very least. that's such a middle school insult, to attempt to make a dirty portmanteau of someone's name that doesn't even vaguely sound like it. it was so bad, i could barely tell it was supposed to be a parody of my youtube name.

  • @British0Pixie

Wow, thanks for your 'Editorial-Like' retort. I'm sure you spend all day

thinking that up. Now go away. We're done here. Cheers chicken boy.

  • Maynard is one of the few people in today's music that can compare his own work to the greatness of the Grand Canyon.

  • 2:20 he totaly says it with a new york accent

  • @METALMILITARY video is only 2:11, jerk.

  • What would be better, seeing some hot ass bitch with her titties out in a magazine OR some hot ass bitch personally getting them out for you in real life?

  • why does everyone call him chewbacca...? i dont think tool is relavent to star wars...

  • 'azuch doych anuz chung grand canyon'

  • "Sorry for asking Tool"

  • "You seen pictures of the grand canyon? Its not the same as being there." God we need that mentality in music more.

  • LOL oh ma god maynard is so serious.

"have you seen pictures of the grand canyon?...HAVE YOU SEEN PICTURES OF THE GRAND CANYON???!!!"

  • Let me get this straight, this is an interview with Tool, (that's in german) about how they prefer to only be seen live. Got it.

  • we're TOOL! we're as grand as the grand fucking canyon!

  • How was he being an asshole? He was saying he's a gift from god or anything, he was just trying to use it as a metaphor. And he was right, seeing anything in real life is different then seeing it on video.

  • I saw an awesome Imax Grand Canyon video. Next best thing to the real thing and I paid to see it. I would pay much more for a Tool live concert vid. Plus, after Tool is no more, I'd love to have something close to the real thing on vid to watch over and over again.

Plus, we know if Tool teamed up with a video company to record some concerts they would not let it hit the shelves without them having full control of the content.

I hope they end up changing their mind before they call it quits.

  • damn he got old :/

  • its a little cocky and not very modest to compare your music to the grand canyon, but yes Maynard is right and has a point there.

  • Comment removed

  • @LeftAstray He does have a point, I believe the same concept applied to the Grateful Dead, people said it was completely different seeing them in person and no show was ever the same.

  • Its not the same, he's right.

  • I think he made a good point with the Grand Canyon and all that, but Maynard just comes off as a complete asshole here. It's not as if the interviewer was being a dick or anything.

  • @billbenblue Maynard always comes off as an asshole. That doesn't mean he was trying to be 1. Thats why he doesn't do many interviews, Its hard for him to speak his mind w/o it coming out wrong.

  • @BASSxACE And I suppose you know that firsthand, right? In fact, you're probably good buddies with him, aren't you? Give me a break. The guy makes good music and has a great voice, but he's still a fucking dick. I was lucky enough to meet Danny Carey and Justin Chancellor when they came to Denver back in May of 2006, and those guys were chill as hell. I seriously doubt Maynard would be that way, and to be honest, I don't think I'd even want to meet him.

  • then come to fucking south america!!!!!!!

  • "have you ever seen pictures of the gran canyon?" He is beyond a legend

  • @NathanXPablo I laughed my ass of when he said that, I love the way Keenan nods his head when the reporter is saying "your fans would like to see you live and on tv"

  • Comment removed

  • Wookiee!

  • the great thing about Jones is that he doesnt need to "shred" or use fast sweeps to be considered good like every other guitarist

  • Reading all of these comments....all I can say is that you all should learn to read between the lines....and learn to swim....cause with this many idiots breathing our air and eating our food....its all gonna end soon.

  • Holy fuck! I just watched this again and I DID actually see the Grand Canyon in this interview..... it's Maynard's fucking mouth!!!!!!

  • Wow! I knew that Maynard was a bit of a megalomaniac, but this interview takes the blue shit ribbon! He's actually become the thing he hates, which is of course a TOOL lol. And this was 3 years ago?? Tool, I still love your albums and live performances but the Grand Canyon?? Gimme a fucking break!

  • @SublimeOne1 have you ever seen pitcures of the grand canyon? Hmm, well you better learn to swim. Your foot in mouth, and head up ass so what you talkin about? >:O

  • @mortalalien you sound like Maynard's pet parrot . That's very clever usage of TOOL lyrics though, seriously. Also, while you're busy swimming, I'll try not to run you over with my boat.

  • you can see at 0:57 that maynard is already starting to get pissed & lost all respect for the interviewer

  • @Tordah90 ehm these TV guys start talking about guns n roses in one context with tool later in this clip. is that respect?

  • @Molybdon Im not here to bash tool. Chill out man

  • @Tordah90 no worries

  • After looking at these comments it's safe to say Tool fans are some of the most obnoxious music listeners. Iwould know, I am a fan....

  • Yeah? Well, this Chewbacca can fuckin' SHRED....

  • but dont go to that god damn fucking native, walk through the merchandise and goodies just after paying over a grand to let your family see the fucking thing. dont try to jump the fence and go see it in walking distance, theyd make any excuss to shoot you

  • TOOL is not the grand canyon........ i think maynard needs to take his head out of his ass.....its' too far in, he wont be able to poop

  • @bringerofrage he's differentiating whats being there like than seeing it in a picture, you dumbfuck.

  • @MattEndersonOng tell me something i dont know dickhead.......... captain fucking obvious.

  • @bringerofrage But it seemed like you didn't. Learn to have a conversation without the vulgarity. You'll look less foolish.

  • they can not release live material all they want, but we are still gonna watch them on youtube

  • Have you ever seen pictures of the Grand Canyon? It's not the same, is it?

  • Maynard is full of himself

  • DICKS

  • i've seen them live 10 years ago. i still shakes me when i remember that 90 minutes by listing to a song from the set they ve played.

    so, he is right!

  • 0:53 for interview, thumbs up

  • why am i dumb ? maynard is to much a diva hiding behind a drum set while performing is stupid, u know i speak the truth, unless u havent ever seen them live u wouldnt know, they sound like crap live, the recordings through a pair of good headphones is the only way they sound good, argue if u want call me dumb it still doesnt change the fact that its lame to hide behind a drum set while performing

  • @claudioblack13 Maynard has said before he doesn't want to be viewed as the face of TOOL just because he is the vocalist, there are other people in the band making the music.

  • @claudioblack13 I disagree, I saw them they soundd amazing.

  • @claudioblack13 -_- your ass

  • @claudioblack13 You must love Diet Cock...

  • @claudioblack13 you better learn to swim....

  • so awesome to watch an interview with two members of tool and hear deftones in the background :) two phenomenal bands!

  • are u kidding me? did he really compare tool to the grand canyon? tool is just a pretty good rock band not like they momumental life altering type band that changed music, they r just a expermental band, if ne thing perfect circle is alot better

  • @claudioblack13 I think that what he was using was commonly referred to by people that understand basic principle's of english, as a METAPHOR. Your comment is exactly what MJK and TOOL despise. People who are unable to delve a little deeper, and take everything that they hear and see in life at face value. Surely there must be enough bieber video's on here for you to occupy yourself with?????

  • @vrednie im not tryin to argue are be a douche bag, i totally understand they were using a metaphor, i just disagree in the sense that i dnt think they r that good live, i honestly think they sound better on the recordings then they do live, maynard doesnt even put on a good show he hides behind the drum set, they were tryin to sound like they r so great live that u couldnt possibly understand how awsome they r unless u see them live, which just inst true, they sound best through headphones

  • @claudioblack13 ur dumb

  • im a huge tool fan and I think maynard is probably one of the best vocalists ever, but he actually is a real asshole at times. I went to a concert last year, it was actually awesome, aenima and lateralus pretty much made it but during the concert he kinda stopped and went off on some hot chicks in the front, and left right after their last song without saying anything. The drummer was real cool though i wish i knew his name, he got up and threw his sticks and ended it right

  • @suqratm How was he being an asshole in this interview? He was stating an important point. I prefer people to be up front, even if some people get offended by it. Those people who get offended just need to mature and grow some thicker skin. Not everyone is going to smile and nod at you through out your life.

  • what the fuck was that guy saying?

  • Poland cannot into space.

  • maynard reminded me of tom cruise for some fucking reason in that clip. roflll

  • WHATTTT????

  • HHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, amazing!!! he really does look like him!

  • That guy at the start of the video looks alot like Valentino Rossi!

  • wow i never realized how true maynards statement was untill i went to their concert down here in hawaii. it was un stinkin believable!!!!!

  • @808jam dude i live on maui, i wanted to go to that concert sooooo bad, i envy you

  • @SethYoda71 awww serious? dude it was awesome!!! u gotta go to one. u will not regret it!

  • I live in a country where Tool will never come. And if they come, i dont have enough money to travel and pay the ticket... What?

  • Maynard has balls.... looks like wants to beat the shit out of the interviewer

  • I've always been a Tool fan... and I thought they were sort of humble... until I saw this video. Seriously Maynard? The Grande Canyon? I get the point, really i do, i've seen Tool several times. But I guess Maynard assumes that everyone has a massive stereo system to crank their music on because otherwise.. they just aren't getting the same effect..... If you don't want to interview.... don't interview.

  • @valsuarez explain why you say 'But I guess Maynard assumes that everyone has a massive stereo system to crank their music on because otherwise.. they just aren't getting the same effect'

  • @alexcronje1 it was in reference to his question to the interviewer, "have you seen the grand canyon?" his point being that you won't get the full effect unless you are at the grand canyon. follow me? so by this logic, you would need to also listen to them at concert volumes thus requiring a massive stereo system. It seemed he irritated and that analogy was probably not serious but rather a "next topic" hint?

  • hahahaha, maynard was totally fucking around with that guy, I bet he thinks the grand canyon is worthless.

  • Comment removed

  • I feel bad for the interviewer, lol.

  • Im a huge tool fan, I love their music, but Adam jones bears a striking resemblance to Chewbacca.. He really does

  • @xxelaxela333 Lol! Didn't note that xD

  • @xxelaxela333 a bulemic chewbacca

  • @xxelaxela333 i think it's just his nose and mouth. it's stuck out so weird.

  • @SOADSfetus lol its just how his mouth/nose assembly just sort of rounds out of the flat top part o his face, like chebacca's, and his teeth, too. and then the hair.....

  • @xxelaxela333 i have a friend at school who looks exactly like adam. everytime i look at him i think of tool.

  • @xxelaxela333 i was just wondering what it was that he looked to similar to! thank you! haha

  • @xxelaxela333 Ben Stiller crossed with a chimp. I love him but god that's all I see

  • @xxelaxela333 lol yeah and Ive always thought Danny Carey looks like Station from Bill and Teds Bogus Journey!!

  • @xxelaxela333 when i figured that out, it was a revelation. i always had this niggling feeling that he looked like someone but i could never place it, then i figured it out, chewbacca!

  • @xxelaxela333 hahaha lmao. That is absolutely true. I originally thought he looked like an ape...like the missing link. Chewbacca is a much better description.

  • @xxelaxela333 You're a fan of huge tools?

  • @xxelaxela333 you say it like it's a bad thing!

  • U ever seen a picture of dog shit?

It's not the same as sanding over it and getting a whiff!

    Haa ha

    I love tool but sometimes

  • no wonder I haven't seen any of their live videos

  • Maynard has a cool hat

  • I'm a gigantic tool fan, but that whole grand canyon comment was the most arrogant thing I've ever heard. lol

  • @lilvjdude

Not really, he's saying pictures don't do it justice. It's always better to go and see the real thing. derr

  • @lilvjdude Yes. But, like me, i'm sure you would rather go to a Tool concert than see the Grand Canyon. And it was just an analogy anyway.

  • lol maynard shakes his head, i agree live is the best

  • fuck the german peoples they dont really fix with the band i mean german peoples are

bullshit they dont have any idea about real music

  • @ONIKdeftones

yea and americans do right. that's why that turd whose name begins with a J is soooo popular here. hahahaha

  • @ONIKdeftones

what the fuck? most americans like justin bieber. And some of tools favorite musicians are german. so shut it.

  • @brainboob MOST Americans like Justin Bieber? If that were true he would have the biggest selling record of all time. I haven't even heard his music.

  • @Nem33

YEA WELL I CANNOT SEEM TO GET ANY SPACE FROM THE BEIEBER PHENOMENON HERE SO I AM GUESSSING MOST OF THESE CRETINS LOVE HIM!

  • Hey Maynard you're not Prince so settle down.

  • lol. tool is one of the few bands whose interviews i actually enjoy watching... there is usually something said that either makes me laugh or makes me think in a way i haven't before.

  • adam looks like a caveman ^^

  • If chewbacca mated with adrew g, you get adam

  • @cameronbob92 lol

  • roflmao you guys are fucked up. Now every time I see Adam Jones I'm gonna think about Chewbacca. AAAWWWGH YAAWGGH YAWWWGH.

  • @kmal2t yeah man me too! i can't see Adam the same way anymore lol

  • Is it just me or, does Adam Jones really look like Ted Danson with that hair?

  • @slovan yes he does.

  • adam jones does kinda look like chewy lol.

  • chewbacca is the tool's guitarist

  • Adam Jones = Chewbacca

    Maynard = Kenny Chesney

  • Comment removed

  • why dont they play more shows if they want us to see them live, ive been waiting in the uk for far too long.

  • Adam Jones is a great guitarist.

In this interview, if you were to paint his face brown he would look a lot like chewbacca.

  • Many look to Maynard as the "genius" of the band but really think it is Adam Jones he is so talented. Without his art tool wouldn't be the band they are today

  • i also collect the live shows and there are some bootlegs which are just amazing (audio and vizual) but believe me, nothing comes close to actually seeing the band live! i guess you could apply that to any band you like if youre a musik lover. if youve ever been in doubt about seeing tool, wait until you have the opportunity and do it, or travel to see them - you will be satisfied. ive seen them twice and both tymes were mynd blowing!

  • Adam Jones is sexy.

  • I dont think that they realise that they have fans all over the world that probably never going to see them live if they dont travel to America. Thats gonna cost alot of money but it will sure be well worth it :)

  • @Badmaximum7 Money's not the only issue. Some people can't just get up and say "Oh I'm gonna go to New York to see Tool live". You need a lot more documents like an American Visa to be able to get to America and you're not gonna be granted one for a superficial reason like "going to see your favourite band". Some people just have no chance of seeing them and I think it's a bit arrogant of Maynard and Adam to share that view.

  • Hey Maynard! It's those pictures of the Grand Canyon, that inspired people to go see it..

  • I've been downloading Tool's bootleg concerts for a while, and after seeing them live for the first time recently, I know EXACTLY what they're talking about!

  • I love the way, Maynard interrupts. It's somehow hilarious, but it's just amazing how they can explain everything in metaphores.

  • Maynard doesnt treat people like shit he just hates the spotlight on him and he thinks people dont tap into their potential he is not pretensious he is just honest and himself they want people to experience them live TOOL is awesome live they evolve what other bands from the early 90's are still around none TOOL outlasted time and will continue to evelove these educated gentlemen are more than musicians they are artists

  • Lol Maynard just treats everyone like shit...I guess it's his "thing" but the guy makes fucking great music so I personally don't care.

  • Ahahah

  • wann kommt der "grand canyon" denn endlich mal wieder nach deutschland?! :(

warum touren die nur in den usa?

  • @StrikerTheLizard

    A) Their music is amazing, both musically and lyrically. I understand you may not like it, but it's not "ok"... it's more than that. I don't like Tom Waits' stuff very much, but I can still admit he makes very good music.

    B) You can see them live on YouTube, all they said is that they feel it's a better experience to see them live rather than on TV. And it's true... the same goes for every band on the face of the Earth. LIVE live is always better than TV live.

  • @StrikerTheLizard first. their music is amazing. second. tickets are only 60 bucks i bought them yesterday...and he's right its not the same

  • @StrikerTheLizard i dont like you but you dont hear me bitching

  • @StrikerTheLizard

You seem to think they're basically saying "fuck you" to the fans by insisting that people come to the shows. If you actually listen to what they're saying, you'll realize that this isn't true at all. They just want people to get the full experience of their art the way they meant for it to be experienced. I can totally see where they're coming from, it's about not compromising with something they really care about.

And the tickets don't cost $500.

  • @blarghle They'll get hundreds showing up at each concert anyway

  • wtf the reason they make vids is because they want us to see them live that would be cool but i live in russia they wont preform here

  • you have to put your self in there shoes if you went and made music just cause you wanted to make music not cause the fame then why cant he just make music for you to hear and not have to promote or become a slave to your wants just because they make music they dont owe us anything they gave us something already

  • tool is using enochian ritual magick,

  • adam jones looks like chewbacca

  • i went to the grand canyon and it's fucking mind blowing

  • They are just emulating LZ, they probably heard that LZ never allowed many interviews or films of themselves.

  • @MickeyLove01 thats because led zeppelin was terrible live

  • @cenyan13 What have live performances got to do with my comment?

  • lol adam looks like a caveman

  • Adam looks like chewbacca :)

  • used to like tool when i was younger - i still do.

but maynard sure is a pretentious fuck. i wonder what he'll think of himself 20 years from now, when he looks back and catches a glimpse of himself on recording. puke worthy.

comparing a band's live performance to the grand canyon? eeeesssh that's just ott.

  • @kharnvelzyghur He's not "comparing" them.

  • i dont understand why everyone sucks maynards dick and says hes a genius. tool is good and all but maynard isnt a genius. i have actually heard straight dudes say that they would suck his dick. its ridiculous

  • @DUKYBALLZ its the modern way of saying they respect him lol
