  • Hardball is a stupid show.

  • pat buchanan is an ass.why he is so protective to the american brands?if a brand from another coutry goes to america and creates jobs what´s the problem?the weak fail.

  • yup Kia, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Hyundai

    Made in America by Americans

its all about jobs right ?

don't buy foreign made cars buy American Made !

  • Buy a real American car, buy a Honda!

  • It's very simple. If you don't buy their shitty cars, they will take your money anyway!!

  • Let`s keep jap car out!

those japs has destroyed american holy

    industry!they are shamless monkey.lol

  • The government shouldnt have to bailout the american auto industry....american made cars are trash. Buy a Honda/Toyota/Subaru/Nissan or BMW...those are the only cars that get good reviews!!

  • Its the wal-mart effect soon the US auto makers will need to force the suppliers to move to china (more jobs gone)

It's Like Sheep To The Slater

  • Automotive products account for about $11.2 billion of the monthly trade deficit. Japanese and Korean manufacturers have captured a larger market and are expanding their U.S. production. However, Asian manufacturers tend to use more imported components than domestic companies

  • Net imports of petroleum, products from China, and automobiles and parts total about 110 percent of the trade deficit, and no solution to the overall trade imbalance is possible without addressing these segments.

Petroleum accounted for $26.3 billion of the monthly trade gap in October 2007

  • On Friday, the Commerce Department will release data for the November 2007 trade deficit. The consensus estimate is $60 billion, up from $57.8 billion in October. It may be a bit larger or smaller, but either way, it comes to about 5 percent of GDP, That is an enormous drag on national income and growth, and has corrosive consequences for our children's future..

  • The Japanese did not put factories here to give American workers jobs. It's all about profit. Every car they sell here is a sale lost by Chrysler, Ford or GM. Add up all their car sales, and you see how many auto jobs could have been American jobs.

  • Same goes to GM, Ford, and Chrysler for building factories in "Canada, and Mexico". It's all about Profit.

How many auto jobs could have been American jobs? answer that!

  • Ok lets give up; we dont need the high paying jobs. Lets all work for free!

  • why should we(taxpayer) bailout GM, Ford, and Chrysler

    1. Lay off thousand of worker.

    2. Lay off, because of greed!

    3. Let them deal with their own problem!

  • Unsold foreign cars piling up at U.S. ports

It's rapidly becoming the world's largest parking lot. Is it the Cross Bronx Expressway at 6 p.m.? No, it's the Long Beach, California port, which along with the Los Angeles port is rapidly becoming a defacto storage lot, The New York Times reported, as thousands of unwanted, new foreign cars pile up, their future unknown.

  • Let's make sure to keep the discussion balanced. Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mercedes, BMW, Kia and Hyundai already receive far more in permanent financial support from our own taxpayers than what the U.S. auto industry is seeking. Our own companies deserve equal consideration, no more, no less

  • Similarly, Toyota is receiving $300 million in support for its plant in Texas, or $150,000 per job created. Alabama provided Hyundai, Toyota, Honda and Mercedes an average of $111,000 in incentives per job. The list goes on. Unlike the temporary assistance GM, Ford and Chrysler are seeking, in almost all the cases, U.S. taxpayer subsidies to foreign companies never need to be paid back

  • By contrast, foreign auto makers receive far more from U.S. taxpayers in various forms of government assistance. In Tennessee, for example, state and local authorities offered Volkswagen $577 million in lowered taxes and other benefits in exchange for the plants it is constructing, at a staggering cost of $288,000 per job created

  • As proposed, the requested bridge loans represent roughly $4 billion in assistance to U.S. auto makers, that is, the cost of a low-interest loan. With 240,000 employees spread among the three U.S. companies, that works out to less than $16,000 in temporary taxpayer assistance per job.

  • someone smart please help me

    this video was good sg

  • 70$ an hour to do a job that does not require any skill. IT'S A LABOR JOB anybody could do it, it's like fliping burgers. Unions are a thing of the past. UAW workers would not need as much pay if the cost of living in Detroit was'nt so high.

Ledtting the big three fail, will finaly give someone else a chance to start their own auto industry. Someone like Preston Tucker who ironicly was forced out of business by the big three when they cried to the goverment back in the late 40's.

  • What the hell are you talking about, goggle some facts before you post, the US auto workers dont make $70 an hour!!!! The foreign auto makers in the US make $32 to the US auto makers $28 look it up people.

  • What I meant by according to the associated press, UAW workers make 70,000 a year when you include their sweet little benefit package. Foreign automakers in the south make half that and live comfortablely there because of low cost of living. UAW workers do make twice as much. FACT: They don't have as comfortable of a life style because the high cost of living in Detroit.

The auto industry is suffering because they over produced in a down economy and nobody wants to buy in a recession.

  • Another fact that is missing from the Union versus Non-Union labor is that Southern state Auto workers have never chosen to become part of the UAW. It is their choice and not ours if they want to Unionize. But the Democrats want to take away the secret ballot in Union negiotations.

  • Harley Davidson went into Bankruptcy owned by Japanese and then came back... Why does Buchanan think that GM is any different???

  • One thing that Buchanan omits is that Ford GM And Chrysler import parts from Mexico. So they do the exact same thing as Foreign automakers.

  • funny video lets chat

    lets chat fE

  • Gattuso is a sell out, period.

  • who's pocket is gattuso in?

  • Pat Rules!

  • I can only hope the volt is true, it sounds like a cool idea to use only batteries for the first 40 miles, my trips to work are about 32 miles round trip and you will have the capability to go extended range with a generator if needed. Then in the future we can plug in the NIMH. They cant hold the patent for ever

  • GM is the only auto maker talking about an extended range electric vehicle (EREV) with all electric motor drive for sale in 2010; we will have to wait to see. But I want one

  • GM CEO had the battery car shipped to Washington,DC while nobody was looking. The CEO

drove a Impala or Malibu there. The GM battery

car can't go but,40 miles.Levin & another Democrats got in the back seat of the battery

car. They were all smiles when they went 10feet

in it.What a joke! Plus a 18 wheeler with a48,000lb load can't be pulled with a battery never ever PERIOD!The only thing that will power them other than diesel or gas is natural

gas. They use 25% of the fuel here everyday.

  • There are so many government regulation and safety standards that add to the cost of a car that a start up company will not be able to bear the cost of the R&D for an all electric extended range vehicle (EREV)

  • If we are going to have an EREV its going to come out of Detroit.

  • All the foreign companies profits go out of the country.

  • 700 billion goes out to other countries for oil every year!We have 150 years of natural gas reserves here.

  • We have Honda,Mercedes & Hyundai plants in my

state. There hasn't been no layoffs yet.The Honda & Mercedes plants cut back on production

Not having unions gives them flexebility! We

also have a German Steel Company getting ready

to open in the near future.Georgia has a new

Hyundai car plant under construction! They had

over 27,000 apply for the 2,600 jobs! The UAW

needs to stop giving millions & millions of

union dues to the Democrats every year & use

    it on their members!!

  • Alamaba spent 100's of millions of dollars of tax payers $to lure auto makers there. Honda Odyssey sales, (made in Alabama are down 46%)& Honda sales are down overall 32%. Hyundai Sonata (made in Alabama) is reporting sales down 55%. Not to mention that these companies get considerable assistance from their home countries.I am glad things are going well there, but every economist in the world is saying this will get worse before it gets better.

  • Both of my senators voted against the $700billion bailout. You see what a joke that was.

AIG went on executive spending sprees with it!

Plus the companie's are still giving out big

executive bonuses they just changed the name of them.Jay Leno said they said they have to

to give them to keep executives & upper management from leaving.Leno said yes they need to keep them they are doing such a great job! What BULL---!!The Dems forced affirmative

action house loans to low income people!

  • We can kick and scream all we want but the government will do what ever they want to do and we cant stop it, so the Detroit auto makers will get the money the same way the banks got the money and the tax payers will pay for it, all we can do about it is hope that some people will keep there jobs and the US auto makers learn something from it so they can make a better and cheaper car and pay the loans back in the future. So buy the car that you like to drive.

  • General Motors is dead. The failure to create a bailout plan or my preference an industry wide sales stimulus plan effectively kills the company. People are simply not going to buy GM, with or without TARP.

It is difficult to say what the new congress may do with the remains of the industry. You can be assured that fuel efficient cars will be demanded, as OPEC begins raising the price of oil once again.

  • Both my Senators voted against the 2 bailouts!

American taxpayers don't want to pay for the

Big 3 pensions!A lot more people loss there

401-k's!Why not just help them with a trillion

of taxpayer money. The labor cost on Big 3 cars

are $2,000 more than foreign labor cost on each car. They must bankrupt,restructure,re-

organize & renegotiate with the Union.Make it

clear 1/2 of something is a hell of a lot better than all of nothing! The government don't need to run banks & carmakers PERIOD!

  • Can you explain then why it is that Toyota and Honda are laying people off?

Toyota and Honda both reported sales declines greater than Ford's.

The 401 k losses can be blamed on the federal reserve, it is the federal reserve's responsibility to maintain market liquidity. The fed banks receive a 6% dividend on their federal reserve stock, whether the economy grows or not. The money supply needs to be controlled by the government, not a private federal reserve which is a private institution

  • Pat Buchanan was right on every point.

What has been left out of this debate is the fact that both Honda and Toyota are laying people off.

Another thing being left out of this debate is the consumer. Noone has considered the impact on the consumer. Bankrupt car companies, means worthless cars and lots of them.

Most importantly however, I would like to say that it is vital that a consumer up approach be taken to stimulate sales industry wide, including foreign makes.

  • In the Mid-1970's cars were lined up for miles at the gas pump & could only purchase 5 gallons at the time. On even days license plates ending with an even number were allowed to gas up. On odd days...odd ending licence plate number. US dealerships went bankrupt. Only small Japanese cars were selling.

US Automakers had 30 years to come up with fuel efficient cars--30 YEARS--and did NOTHING!!

Lobbyists fought Congress every chance they had on emission, fuel efficiency & safety issues.

  • I hold RALPH NADER to the highest possible respect for FIGHTING incessantly on behalf of the American consumers, with the US AUTOMAKERS on safety issues & proposing consumer protection bills in Congress.

Did you know that on ordinary cars, the right side view mirror was AN OPTION!! You had to PAY EXTRA to have this crucial mirror!!

Safety Belts, Reinforced Passenger doors, Collapsible Hoods...(to prevent driver's beheading in frontal collision)...etc, are all due thanks to RALPH NADER !!

  • I respect Nader's work as well. You should not however, that Toyota and Honda sales are down more than Fords. All of the automakers are laying off large numbers of people.

What I am advocating is an industry wide stimulus, not a pick the winners approach. For $30 billion the government could provide $2000 rebate on 15 million vehicles from all makes and models foreign and domestic. Whether that would save GM, I don't know. It sounds like a lot to ask of the public, but the public will

  • , but the public will lose much more if the industry goes down. Those who own cars of bankrupt companies will lose their investment. The cost of purchasing other brands will go up and the unemployment rate will skyrocket. The cost in terms of food stamps and other aid must be considered as well.

Lastly, what would it hurt that someone had saved a little money on their car purchased in today's economic climate?

  • Assistance to the Big 3 needs to be done in 2 phases.

1-) Get rid of the existing inventory by providing discount to the consumer. Dealerships won't go bankcrupt.

2-) Retool the assembly lines & start building Hybrid Bi-Fuel & ELECTRIC Cars to transit progressively to ELECTRIC Cars only once the Nation Power Grids have been updated to answer the additional demand on electricity to recharge the ELECTRIC Cars

3-) Place the internal combustion cars in the Smithsonian beside the dinosaurs.

  • Couldn't agree with you more. We can end mid-east terrorism very easily by eliminating our dependence on their oil. They can't grow their own food, very limited drinking water supply...without oil, they would be back to pounding sand. We fund our own terrorists.

  • Toyota sells the Toyota Camry for $2000 less in the US then in Japan, why do you think that is?

  • To capture the market share. Smart Business move. The US Drugs Manufacturers have ranked #1 in the world for the past 20 years. They compete with other drugs making countries & sell their US DRUGS at a price that is 80% cheaper than the price WE Americans pay in the USA.

US Senior Citizens went to Canada to buy ... "US-MADE DRUGS" ... at a 50% discount. Canadian Drugstores kept a 30% profit for themselves.

Bush stopped that!! US-MADE DRUGS were conviscated at the borders--Reason UNSAFE!!

  • The problem is the fat lazy ass big business and government types that have divided and conquer the middle class, why do you think the republican senators are fighting the unions so hard its not for the little guys.

  • Democrat Party = For The Middle Class Always

Republican Party = For The Big Corps Always

  • The Chinese flooded the market with low price labor TV sets, than so long U.S. made TV sets.

  • The American colonists did the exact same thing with Great Britain, by flooding Europe market with cheaper (cotton gin) textile.

  • What I'm saying is the USA did it to other countries in many aspects, before it started to be done to us. I guess Japan, Taiwan, China etc, learned from the best...us!!

They come here studied our car assembly lines, go back home & come up with improved products, at a cheaper price.

These same countries then started to protect their market by first: stopping to buy (import) our products & imposing strict restrictions on the procuts that we were allowed to export to them.

  • librophile

What is your job? Its linked to the auto manufacturing in some way like it or not.

  • You Go Pat!!!!!! tell it like it is.

  • who's pocket is gattuso in?

  • #1 & #2 cars sold in Europe are Chevrolet, and Ford. Those models can't be sold in the US due to government regulations. The problem with American Manufacturing is Government involvement. Take the Government meddling and allow the market to work. There is 100 year history in American Automaking, they will figure out how to see a product, unless mandated by government fiat!

  • Wrong!! The US government imposed emission standards on cars. The Big-Autos sued the government to remove or at least reduce those restrictions. Big-Autos argued that it couldn't be done...they finally came up with the catalystic converter to reburn the exhaust fume.

Japan instead stated from scratch and came up with a superior new engine with very low emission and no catalystic converter.

  • Sorry, you can't argue with FACTS. The Facts I stated about the #1 & #2 rated cars in Europe being one a GM (Opel) and two a Ford (Ford Fiesta) is reported in Euro trade magazines. So not wrong. Fact again, The Ford Fiesta cannot be sold in the US without adding $3000 per unit in safety standards as mandated by Congress (it was tried in the 90's and was a failure. Please look it up, and if you find FACTS that refute me, I am obliged to deffer to you, however just saying WRONG won't work with me.

  • micontrols--"The problem with American Manufacturing is Government involvement."

Your initial comment was extremely ambiguous.

Read my posts below concerning GOVERNMENT INVOLMENT & you'll understand my point.

The little Ford Fiesta (standard shift and no Air Conditioner) was being sold in the US in the mid-1970's.

  • My then soon to be husband has a Ford Fiesta back in the 80's and drove it into the ground. It got almost 200k miles before it died and that was because he never changed the oil or added oil. The mechanics were amazed that it ran at all!

  • Congress should heavily fund the "TESLA MOTORS CORPORATION" in California who now produces the BEST ELECTRIC CAR on the planet.

(250 miles range on 1 charge / 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds / Fully recharged in 3.5 hours)

With substantial funding that corporation could become the NEW DETROIT, place millions of Americans to work & produce less costly family cars in the IMMEDIATE future.

This GREEN corporation is who needs help...not GREEDY DETROIT AUTOMAKERS!!

    Obama knows this. (Jan 20.09)

  • How can a CEO that makes 20 million dollars a year not project this with they way the economy has been???????????????

  • FUCKING RED NECK WANKER!

Americans buy the best for value! American cars are MADE IN MEXICO, then FORD ask for a bailout. Disgraceful!

These Foreign companies emply americans, the people also notice this.

Id allow ford to rot if it werent for the families dependent on them,

A note on freedom of speech , freedom of speach is saying what you like without fear of retaliation. It also means allowing the other person to speak instead of shouting over him

  • The Government should NOT help to bail out the automobile industry. The CEO's who are banking all the money should bail their companies out. Americans need to stop relying on the government for money. No wonder we are in this shit hole.

  • Media in American has been dumbed down x 100,eat s**t and die!

  • to hell with the UAW. they're the reason the big 3 are crumbling. everthing was culminated by the UAW. everything from the lack of R&D money for the big 3 to develop future concepts, to the SUV product that rolled off the assembly line. the ONLY way the big 3 could turn a profit was to sell SUVs, they couldnt sell anything else with the UAW ball and chain on their leg. they're going to move to a right to hire and fire state. fuck michigan and stupid ass states like them.

  • TOYOTA is now the BIGGEST carmaker in the world. It didn't get there by building SUV but with well made fuel efficient cars with the best car warranty.

In Mid-1970 an American car came with only a 1 year~12,000 miles guarantee!! You had to pay to get an extended warranty!!

Better Built Japanese cars were offering a 5 yrs~50,000 miles & later 10 yrs~100,000 miles.

GREEDY Detroit was FORCED TO FOLLOW by building better cars with better warranty.

Don't forget the EXPLOSIVE FORD PINTO!!

  • Do you live in the US?

  • Check out "Who Killed the Electric Car? Part1". There are 10 parts. It will make you freekin mad as hell!! GM crushed thousands of electric cars a few years ago rather than sell them on the market. And they wonder why they are losing their asses!!!!!!!

  • These people are idiots. Build what Americans want, not what the car makers want to build. Make ELECTRIC CARS, not hybrid. Amerians are sick of manipulation from big oil/government/auto industry and the Arabs.

  • Manufactering is done in America, dumbass Buchanan. It will be done in other parts of the world when they can afford the machines.

  • It was quite a challenge for Catuso to keep his cool when blowhards are literly screaming at him. In the end he had the better arguement on economic policy while Pat and Matthews looked like a bunch of assholes.

  • On November 21, Rick Wagoner said in an interview woth the Detroit Free Press, when asked about cutting his salary from 2.2 million to 1 million: "I really hadn't thought through that yet. I do have a son in college I have to pay for somehow." Gosh, I am putting 2 kids through college on 40k, student loans, parent loans and a lot of cutting back. Maybe Rick could do the same?

  • Maybe Rick needs to bring to work a lunchbox with thermos & sandwiches, like the assmbly workers. That should save him a few bucks per week to help buy for his son's Harward/Princeton/Yale tuition.

  • These idiots live in a world of economic theory instead of protecting the jobs of people they never come incontact with. The heritage foundation is a joke.

  • Come on!!

    Restructuring needs money ppl!!

The Big three's gonna deteriorate before restructuring happens!!

  • If I hear the word restructure one more time, I will kill whomever utters it. For those of us who pay attention to the auto industry, General Motors and Ford are producing fantastic products and have been doing a wonderful job if reinventing themselves. Chrysler is in trouble, but GM and Ford are doing extremely well. The only thing holding them back now is morons like this who associate the new line-up with what was produced in the 90s.

  • Tariffs artificially drives production from more favorable markets to less favorable ones, and FORCES customers to buy from certain companies that may charge a higher price. Also, Reagan was a HUGE protectionist, the biggest since Hoover.

  • Also, since the Big3 have so much capital overseas how do we know that the 25bil will even stay here in the states anyway?

  • Buchanan is way off here. Anyone involved in any level of government and the economy should know that bankruptcy isn't necessarily the end. He is just fear mongering. If the Big3 were made to go through chapter 11 then they would have the opportunity to restructure themselves to produce the products that the American and world market are actually asking for. Yes, there would be job losses in the short term, but with a more competitive auto industry there would be greater long term gains overall.

  • HEY FORD and GM just opened up new factories

    in Brazil and Russia?

why do they need a Bailout ?

Americans are dizzy already 7.7 trillion spent on bailouts and not a cent for the poor people

not a cent for the people losing their houses

not a cent for the people losing their jobs

but 7.7 trillion for those that caused the mess America is finished.

Auto industry needs to be restructured and a bailout prolongs the process.

  • The Democraps are the one's that have been crying the loudest about giving them a loan, so what does Democrap Nazi Polousy and Harry Red do? Break for Thanksgiving without doing a thing! When will the sheeple wake up and realize the Democraps want to keep things fucked up so you will rely on them?

  • That argument goes for all forms of government. It is not limited to parties. The government needs us to need them so they can take all of our damned money and keep us under their boot.

  • True, but mainly the Democraps. They don't think we're smart enough to take care of ourselves.

  • No one in government that creates legislation against victimless crimes, or creates legislation governing what people can do with their own bodies is insulting the intelligence of everyone that thinks freely about that which they have no, or insufficient data on.

Democraps, as you call them, are about the same as Republicunts. I view them both with disdain, and look forward to government that seeks to educate, rather than legislate everything.

  • Buchanan is setting up a false dichotomy between preserving the Big 3 with a federal bailout at taxpayer expense and not having a domestic auto industry. The other guest is absolutely right. A bailout wouldn't help our domestic auto industry; it would only prolong the agony by subsidizing their dysfunction.

And these Asian countries don't allow American imports because their citizens don't realize that their governments are screwing them over by barring foreign competition.

  • Tell that to any korean. They know how to protect their market from foriegn goods while pushing their stuff onto others. They are laughing at america and their "free trade" agreement.

  • The bit at the end was very strange, Pat was making the point that the Heritage foundation is paid for by corporations. Then the presenter cut him off and pretended badly that it was an illegitimate question. It was funny watching the paid for corporate moron thank him for not having to answer that tricky question. Pat B rules!

  • Are you referring to the "paid for corporate moron" who was arguing against a corporate bailout that Pat B was arguing for? Interesting world view you have there.

  • Buchanan is a moron and a douchebag. Who the hell would listen to this blabbering right wing conservative living in the past. His ideals do not work in the new global economy. Cause and effects are different now. The Republican party has been hi-jacked by the neo-cons, who are fascists.

  • After four decades of free trade, four decades of out sourcing and four decades of getting exactly what they want... free traders have created an economic meltdown that will rival, if not exceed the Great Depression. And despite producing a situation where the U.S. holds 65 percent of the global trade deficit, these folks still drink from the Kool-Aide.

And we forget that cheap products should not be the driving factor in an economy.

  • Correction: "what does a CEO do that they need to make millions?"

  • Fuel economy cars started a while back. Y didn't Ford,Gm,Chrysler start this a long time ago. Maybe people would have bought their cars.Y do they need 25 billion when they have CEO's who make millions. What does a CEO do that they need to make 25 Billions. My sisters job was cut at Ford as a service writer. With two kids and numerous bills, yet her manager made enough to buy a Ferrari and own 3 homes. Let the automakers go!

  • We are such an embarrassing country. Pompous politicians who question business executives on air travel? Did the crusty politican forget about the hundreds of millions in tax revenue generated by the automakers? As a business owner I laugh at politicians who want to create jobs, save jobs, and declare how a business should be run. They can do none of these. People with desire, dreams, ambition, and ingenuity who want to better themselves are the ones who create businesses, employment, & tax rev.

  • We already bailed out Chrysler several decades ago. Apparently Chrysler didn't learn its lesson; I hope we have learned ours. Businesses must be allowed to reap what they have sown. If they make poor business decisions they should be allowed to fail, since they in fact are failures.

    Enough is enough!

  • I thought the idea was to get rid of corporate welfare.

  • Isn't it amazing!? The Democrats, who are the champions of the little guy and so anti-corporate greed/welfare are running to bail out the corporatists they so despise, with the Repubs running right along behind them! One would think that given the chance the Democrats would poke the corporatists in the eyes and let them go down in flames. Not so! Could it be that many of these corporatists are their friends and former colleagues in government? Never believe a word these pols speak again!

  • The fear that all is lost of the Big 3 file for bankruptcy is a fallacy. There are many businesses that file bankruptcy every year. More often then not, they come back stronger than ever. It's painful to face and admit your mistakes, but you are free to fail in this country, it's just a fact of life.

  • Pat Buchanan means well, but Detroit has been failing for 30-20 years, giving them any kind bond or bailout won't work.

  • China and Japan have non union labor and do not provide a retirement for its workers keeping costs down so low that we cannot compete with the cost of imports from them. Bothsides are right in there own way... problem is that neither side saw this coming when they should have been watching how China's economy has been booming for the past 20 years. Now we are at a point of utter reliance on them, we have borrowed unreal amounts of money from them. They know how to run a business.

  • My next car will be a 2009 Acura TL. Or maybe a '10... either way I'm still not buying American. Period.

  • "No room for economic nationalism"

China doesn't feel that way. Soon they will lure away the US military industrial complex and the US will be weaker and less able to defend themselves.

  • Big government got us in this disaster, and Bachanan wants to use big government as a solution? What a lunatic. Government cannot control the markets! How many disasters will it take for people to realize it? How many failures in protectionism do we need to experience to realize that blocking imports causes other countries to block our exports? It simple common sense.

  • Pat give it up! Old school just doesn't work! This was not just something that happened in a day! If they let things get this fucked up, what is giving them money now going to change? This is bullshit!

  • "Remember the people you are after are the people you depend on. We cook your meals, we haul your trash, we connect your calls, we drive your ambulances. We guard you while you sleep."

  • ha ha ha

  • News flash genius: The DOW is going to 5000.

You can tell people you heard it here first, from the TuxLady. Take it to the bank.

  • This is serious, Pat Buchanan SUPPORTS government intervention... I'm actually quite scared now.

  • Matthews has a pathetic understanding of IR. Economic integration and the fall of protectionism will lead to less war, as it is not in the economic interests of the state to pursue such a policy.

  • Socialist have been waiting at our door for the perfect time. They spent decades preparing the enviroment for this.

And if you want to know some hard cold truth, the American people , many of them have sold us out in the car trade system by purchasing non American vehicals.

and yes,I still LOVE CHEVY TRUCKS

I say limit the imports of foreign made vehicals to the same amounts of our exported vehicals............

Thats what I call free trade, or fair trade

  • That's basically a tariff. If you do that other countries will retaliate with similar policies. Go look up the Smoot Hawley tariff act - one of the main causes of the Great Depression

  • I guess the draconian peace treaty Versailles had nothing to do with it. And, by the way, the Crash of '29 - the real cause of the Depression - happened three years earlier. The greatest myth of American history is Smoot-Hawley caused the Depression.

  • The crash, Versailles, Smoot-Hawley all caused the Depression. Could it have happened if one of those three factors were removed? Unlikely. But tariffs are NOT the answer. Even if they do impose tariffs, I'm still not buying an American car.

  • Iowa did not suffer during the last mini recession and that is because we are a right to work state. We live right next to Illinois and the companies there are being run into the ground. We have one company who's employees have been on strike for 4 months. Some of the guys want to just go back to work and the untion won'y let them. Some unions are not what they used to be. They are no longer for the worker they are for padding thier own pockets.

Thanks to that the free trade act China owns us. We should only have frww trade act with comtries that want to purchase from us.
