no? NSU developed the engine in the 50's but couldn't get it to work. They opened up the rights for every manufacturer to create and develop the engine. The only one who sucseeded at perfectionising the Rotary Engine was Mazda. other manufacturers like Peugot and Mercedes tried aswell. Even Citroen.
For those who were wondering; both the 26B and R26B were between $100,000-$120,000 US Dollars when they were available from Mazda. A bargain compared to the engine in the Ferrari 333SP at $250k
@fergus1494 While I am really glad that the Australian (Or NZ) engine exists, it is a completely different kettle of fish and will not withstand running a 24 hour endurance race. I'd also like to see the dyno sheets on Mad Mike's engine as I have seen dyno numbers on the Mazda built originals.
@bleedblack7 bridgeporting an engine such as the 26B is has its cons along with their pros...not enough air is the best way to put it. 26B are meant for going not idling. so when you stop giving it gas and air it makes that sound as you say shaky. its with all bridging even with the 13B.
I actually went to this event in 2002 specifically to watch this 4-rotor beast. (cost a fortune from Oz) & it was a crying shame to see it fail after just 5 laps.
You could run boost on these engines but why would you? There are various quotes going around on the internet claiming that the engine is capable of 930 hp @ 10,500 rpm (N.A. of course). In race trim the engine ran at ~700 hp @ 9,000 rpm. There is a video on youtube showing a R26B turbo producing 1,600 hp; don't know how much boost.
there are a couple of places in New Zealand who make 4 rotor ecentric shafts, thats the only difficult part. everything else can be bought through your mazda dealer
Try stealing one from mazda, those Engines are not for sale nor would you be able to run one legally in a car, these are racing engines, and much to expensive.
@aaron9696024 In Formula Student, some teams are capable of producing upwards of 90hp with a 19mm restrictor on a 600cc, 4 cylinder, motorbike engine..
The 787 would kill this car! LOL

tell me where to find a stock 4rotor engine?
ingemarolsson 2 years ago
have a lot of money, a lot of rotary knowledge and then build one...
you wont find one for sale..but if you ever did, you'd need a lot of money lol.
PrescriptionSeven 2 years ago
there is no "stock" 4rotor engine, all is custom made. thats why i manifest me that way:) hope you understand my english:)
lot of money is damn right! easier to find the knowlege

i never said stock. if you read my comment, i said "build" but people can build one and sell it.

The wankel engine not banned from le Mans?? Else band only LMP1 Class?
Sorry my band English!

Wankels are not banned.

No they aren't banned, only severely restricted (to the point that it is almost not worth running them).
TankEnMate 2 years ago
whoa wait x1??? i thought you meant each throttle plate was 48.3mm that wouldnt be far off but yeah 48.3 for all for rotors is ouch...
aaron9696024 2 years ago
Restrictor is one.
not 48.3×4.
kameson 2 years ago
yeah thats definently gonna hurt it still sounds awsome tho. kinda like a 787b at part throttle.
aaron9696024 2 years ago
was the intake and exhaust system changed to better suit such a severe resctiction?
aaron9696024 2 years ago
yea, it is.
kameson 2 years ago
good because if it had the huge r26b stacks all sucking throught one 48mm hole they wouldnt see much velocity..

thats very bad restriction, for LMP2 would be nice unrestricted 3 rotor 13G, with variable intake could produce 520 ps...and lower weight.
999miki 3 years ago
P Ports? Sounds amazing.
RhodeGeist 3 years ago
only 480 on 4Rotor?
hatamakoto 3 years ago
Restrictor: 48.3mm , Power was limited.
kameson 3 years ago
48.3mm is still petty big. got any idea how big the throttle bodys were on the r26b in the 787b??
aaron9696024 2 years ago
51mm ×2 were on the 13B-periport.
48.3mm×1 is too small to R26B
