yeah i pretty much dress as what society would deem "normal"...short hair...clean cut, but i fucking love metal....who gives a fuck how you look when it comes to music?
this music is so cerebral...there's no need for vocals...let alone the extreme metal vocals. i can deal with it cause ive listening to extreme music my whole life...but in this case, i would say it takes away from such an opus.
Greetings from seattle! \m/ Saw you guys a week ago, just wanted to say that I really appreciate all you guys do. It was very nice hearing your amazing set, I really wished it could be longer. I'm so happy you guys hung out afterwards and talked with my friends and I, it meant alot. Great music, great times. Come back very soon. \m/
I dont really think you need to fit the sterotype to like this band or the style of music they make,i just like this cause it sounds great to me!! just krank it up and enjoy!!!
Black Metal was started as a anti-religious genre. The british band Venom was the first labeled as black metal back in the 80's and their music focused on Anti-Christian and Satanic themes. Im not starting a religious debate. Im also not arguing with anyone and saying they are wrong. Im just stating a fact that hadnt been brought up yet.
@chaisegilbert I think it's important to understand that early influences and an actual genre are not the same thing. The genre black metal was born during the early 90s in Norway because it is here there are clear stylistical changes both in terms of aesthetics and sound. That these bands drew influence from bands such as Venom is a different matter entirely. The name "black metal" was most likely coined thanks to Venom, but they WERE NOT black metal per se.
Yeah i meant more so the lyrics and vocals. The drums are fast but the music is very proggy trippy. I think thats why i think of it as pure BM like old sabbath. No theatrics and contests as to who is the most evil. and very spacey cool. I am into al ot of the evil stuff but i just like proggy death stuff the best i guess. Opeth, edge of sanity, that genre.
Well Mayhem 1991 album was very atmospheric aswell i think, what we are talking about here is norwegian black metal, black metal started with bathory and even some of their songs were atmospheric i believe.
i ahve nothing else to say than just.. idk man everytime i listen to this freaking band i got no words.. their music is so peace giving.. and idk.. it gives a kind of '' eargasm'' :P:P:P when u listen to it.. very good sounds
the best way to explain to people who dont understand metal is to make them listen to some more easy listening bands like Maiden Edguy Ensiferum Opeth Nightwish Korpiklaani Heidevolk In Flames Megadeth. They wont become metal fan but at least they understand a bit what is the genre and that its not only people who scream and dont know how to play music (metal = best musician ever)
i wouldn't say metal has the best musicians ever, because using distortion covers up alot of mistakes... @ trombop09
that is just a fact, i'm not trying to bash the genre lol i'm a huge metal fan myself! this song has a nice atmosphere to it, i don't know how to describe it but i keep comming back to listen to it...
Enslaved is one of the few bands that are really trying to write songs, and not just a blast beat over a really cool riff that goes nowhere and is wasted.
It might be a good description... but perhaps I would choose Pensive over normal. At least later Enslaved encourages you to reflect, or encourages me at least
@Die4tw0 : as long as the music works for you, it doesn't matter a fuck what anyone else thinks. Just as long as you don't go round murdering people or something, like some metal bands talk about in their lyrics, e.g. Six Feet Under. But the band members themselves don't actually put into practice what they talk about in their songs, it's just art.
It truly is. They will never now why we love this music so much, because they stereotype it. Especially death metal. Its a great genre of music, and people think its really fast one note riffs, sounds like noise, and just sucks, but they never ever go in and find the real death metal bands.
Yeah, it's true. Moreover, it's kind of hard for people to believe that you like metal if you don't "dress in black"...For instance, people hardly believe me when I tell them that I love death metal
One of my friends still thinks it's weird I look the way that I do and like a lot of extreme metal. No long hair or black clothing (minus black tshirts) goes against her stereotype. Not that I have anything against long hair or black clothing, but people should never have to fit any kind of mold.
@InFlames231: that's damn right. I listen to a lot of rock and metal but I've got short hair and don't look the slightest bit rock/metal really. Sometimes I think about going really goth or something with my appearance, but then I decide I'm happy with the way I look. And the most important thing is what's in someone's head and heart, cos if their personality sucks then what's on the outside doesn't count for shit.
@GPazosL Some people become confused when I put on something like Radiohead or M83 because apparently listening to Darkthrone etc, means I must not like anything else.
@InFlames231 Totally. I don't look headbanger at all. lol I put on some metal music, and people are just like "I never knew you were so angry." Like, WTF?
and what i hate more are the people that listen to the music to fit in. Have a purpose to what you listen to! I look nothing like someone that would listen to this by sterotype.
@InFlames231 It's weird that he is still your friend, couse people connects to the other people by their worldview , what they like and other common thing. And I think that musik its one of the fist things that combines people. I have short hair and dont wear black cloth, I wear what I like and dont look at other. I listen to metal musik but non of my friends think Im weird , couse they do the same :)
@Jottunn It's actually a "she", and I am still friends with her because she is fun to be around and generally enjoyable. We don't agree much at all with music. And I do agree about music being one of the strongest connecting points people have when first meeting. Music has that universal quality and can also represent basically the entire spectrum of human emotion, depending on what you are listening to at any given time. So it's easy to see how music can initiate that commonality for 2 people.
@InFlames231 is the most truest things ive ever heard i like heavy metal and i dont wear that kinda stuff i wear skinny jeans black tshirts etc. but i dont have very long hair...if anything people would think i was a skater but i dont skate :L
@InFlames231 I get it too. My hair is red and medium cut, and i'm a nursing student so i wear scrubs every day... i always wore clothes that were comfortable. I wouldn't mind some combat boots though! Peace
And I think its more better to being Underground then Become popular. If you lookin to a popular Metal!!! band you can look CoF, Db... No metaL culture, no idea just satanic, vampyric words and hard riffs...

Black Metal is by itself atmospheric
3dDuke 1 year ago
Not really.
It just started to be like this later in the 90's
First Black metal was pure Barbarian, raw and Thrashy music nothing more.
That Atmospherical thing started from bands like Darkthrone,Immortal and Burzum.
IsraeliMetalhead 1 year ago
Well Mayhem 1991 album was very atmospheric aswell i think, what we are talking about here is norwegian black metal, black metal started with bathory and even some of their songs were atmospheric i believe.
3dDuke 1 year ago
Hmmm Black Metal started with Venom and thenc ontinued by bands like Bathory sacrofago salem rotting christ etc'
Bathory's atmospherical stuff had nothing to do with Black Metal it was just a kind of Manowar influenced music he did,Epic Metal.
Hmm..I know their Mayhem's first demo was released in 1987 I don't think it sounded too atmospherical, and Black Metal was already there.
IsraeliMetalhead 1 year ago
Huh? No venom is the kind of manowar influenced music, Bathory 1984 album sounds nothing like manowar with the growls and that kind of things
