  • I hope Gabourey don't get into this mess that the Hollywood stars are into!!!

  • Hollywood is sooooi full of shit!!!

  • No that was lighting. Not retouching love. Thanks for this.

  • yes they retouched her pic to look lighter...its sad but true being real dark and big thick or fat is looked at as ugly. Im a blk female so I already know what it is to deal with this world. But, I do understand that it IS worse for heavy blk women and dark blk women to be treated as women which is what they are. People think heavy women are ugly but no one says anything about the heavy men.

  • wow the pic in pink looks different

  • @blackspaniard1025 By the way I am not heavy nor am I a darkskinned blk. I am athletic fit slim build but I see whats going on

  • Skin doesn't matter. It's all about the vibe.

  • I think your pretty in the pictures and through out the entire video.. and wow, your wearing NO MAKE UP .. Girl you are gorgeous <3 :)

  • @MrsSarahBloom Thank you LOL

  • the girl is BIG if they wanted they didn't like the way she looked because she was dark, they most likely wouldn't like the way she looked bc she was big. In my opinion is was just a matter of lighting and makeup. She looks gorgeous and it has nothing to do with her skin color. Its the vibe, the smile, all of that. Leave it alone people.

  • did u gain ur weight back?

  • @meliving Nope, not all of it some obviously :)

  • when you smile you look like andreaschoice :) shes really pretty as well.

  • Hello I'm on a diet too and loosin weight normally hoping to get to size 6-8 in may 2011 I'm currently 5ft9 and 165lbs, I wanted to ask u if u can inbox me about the products u use for ur body especially the face please, ur face looks flaw i'm getting married dis year and ur help would be appreciated pliz, thank u, xoxo

  • it's not that they're not accepting your black skin, it is beautiful black as it is.... the thing is... think about ...Penelope Cruz or maybe Jennifer Aniston, do you think that they look so white and shiny as they appear on the cover of the magazines? no they're not

  • You look beautiful without makeup...wow I am jelous..

  • when i got this issue in the mail i was discussing it with my mom and aunt and explaining my experience with it. as a makeup artist, photogs will always use flash as you described, which makes you look lighter. and also certain makeup with make you look lighter in conjuction with flash, like products containing mica. i have a beauty blog and appear lighter in a lot of my photos because of flash as well. point is, to get a true photo, there should be no retouching, no flash, and natural light

  • I didn't read all the comments so if this has been said than my bad. But for Gaby also posed for Harpers Bazaar and those pictures were obviously retouched but if you compare those pictures to Elle's they are so much better she hasn't been lightened and they didn't throw some raggedy wig and a piece of a drape on her the pictures were very nice and professional looking. zthey show just how shitty Elle's really are

  • Is that you at 1:47 and 1:52!Cause if it is you got

somethen going there. You look real pretty in those

    pictures!

  • @58fenix Yes, LOL. I have better unretouched images I wish I would have inserted in this video... next time :(

  • i didnt like these pics. i respect Gabby but them pics didnt flatter her at all

  • I think they retouched her to look lighter because I don't think she would be that light under any lighting. I know they retouch photos though but this one was way too much.

  • i completely agree that dark skinned people aren't treated quite as fair when it comes to magazines and things. However, it angers me that people are trying to get rid of racism, when you have to admit that obama was voted in BECAUSE he was black. I'm not being racist. Plz no hater comments. I agree w/ what u say.

  • @iliveformusic96 Oh whatever....every other president was voted in because they were White so quit complaining about one guy winning for the first time ever! There have been other Black and non-White candidates who never won because of their race.

  • @iliveformusic96 trust ,it's way harder then that to become a president ....so much to media talk ....;-)

  • @lucidparody I definitely can understand that...

  • Studying Women's and Gender studies, frankly i'm sick sick sick with magazine advertisements and photos and photoshopping in general (also probably cause I used to do that very job until i switched majors) Her skin is fine, making it brighter shows that our society finds lighter skins "beautiful" which is wrong, also there's no reason why she had to take up the entire damn page, compare it to any other cover and you see the whole body practically of whoever it is.

  • Ipersonally dont see anything wrong with the cover! I beleive alot of her lighter color comes from the bright lights, they use alot of bright lights at photo shoots.

Every model is retouched from size to color! I think there are more important issues in the world than the media to be focused on this silly magz cover. She obv saw the cover before it was released and I havent heard her say anything negative about it- so obv it doesnt bother "her" Gabby.

  • @MsGnette I know it's a little late, but I had a spin on your point. I don't think this simply is about the magazine cover; it's about the image of beauty in the US. So, yes, it is important...Blacks have so few positive images, and we usually try to make ourselves fit into the European image of beauty...It does seem "frivolous," I guess, if you limit it to a mag cover. But it's about a lot more on a greater scale. Just my humble opinion, though.

  • Hey girl I think u are super gorguz!.. I was actually thinking of getting into plus size modeling, but I don't know where to start. What would you recomend me?

  • Her picture is definitely retouched. But, I will say this. I used to model when I was younger and the lights and makeup they pile on you will make you look a lot lighter. I am brown, and on pictures I look very light complected.

  • yes I think they should of kept her close to her own skin toned. What's the point in having her do the cover it's it not really her, ya know.

  • she was retouched EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING IS! I do it for living... dgtalimage()webs()com... all about sales...

  • i think it was probably the lighting because even on tv celebs look lighter than what they are...especially on Oprah idk what kinda cams she uses but they always make everyone including her look flawless...anyways i know what you mean about ppl not looking like their pics because i've seen eva longoria in person and she looked so average looking and she had no bod what so ever i couldn't believe it was her cuz she looked so diff from tv and her pics...i guess they add curves to her or something

  • yup ive been retouched too in my modeling photos

  • ur gorgeouse!!!

  • i don't think she is retouched because in person im dark skin like dark chocolate but when i take pictures with flash i look like caramel so i dont think they changed the picture, its obviously the lighting. like damn people always have to hate and not everyone has a complex with skin color

  • @blurawker I was thinking the same thing. Cause in pictures I look light skin but I'm really chocolate.

  • yeah i mean u can tell they did retouch her. but either way i think shes pretty!

just like u i think ur gorgeous! and ur personality just makes u even more beautiful.

  • This actually hurts me...because being dark skinned is obviously not beautiful..this is why i HATE north america because in the caribbean having dark skin is way more accepted and it's so beautiful! and I don't think your pictures are very different from how you look in this video..you're so pretty

  • @TruthandBeauty89 Dark Skinned is Beautiful! I think if you can rock out in darker skin it makes you 200 times more attractive than the average cookie cutter image. We've seen light skinned way too much which becomes overly redundant. I wouldn't want to be lighter than I already am and I think dark skin is definitely something to embrace proudly.

  • @PlusModelInTheMaking

You're a model, so tell me why your counterparts ( for instance Gisele Bündchen) seem to be more popular than black models?

  • @TruthandBeauty89 - I dont agree with you on this. My family is from the islands too, but Dark skin is accepted in N. Amer.

Americas next top model had many DARK skin models that won! and NOT to mention we do have a black president! I think dark skin is very beautiful too and it is accepted now more than ever!

  • @TruthandBeauty89 Well you should look at OUR history here in N. America and understand why SOME people, not me, think that dark skin is not beautiful. Also, if you "hate" north america so bad then why be here. I'm not trying to get on your case, but it really bothers me when people come here from a different country to escape poverty or whateverand just complain about how much they hate America, and all this b.s. and yet they are still here. Makes no sence to me.

  • @cierafe uhmm first off I am Canadian so don't just assume I am from somewhere else..Second i know our or since I guess since I'm not from the US "ur" history it's pretty obvious why people don't think dark skin is not beautiful...like wow don't tell me that's it's so accepted it's like a fake acceptance do you really think the media accepts it when they admitted to the fact that they lightened her skin on purpose...all i was saying was it is more excepted somewhere

  • @TruthandBeauty89 Yeah, I know where you are from. I went to your page before I made my comment. I don't speculate, I state facts.I didn;t assume that you were from here. I'm just saying since I live in America I can only be accountable for what I hear and see. Also, i'm not trying to cover up the obvious. Yes, some people believe that dark skin is not beautiful, but in MYopinion it's beautiful. Again, not trying to strike a nerve. My husband is frm Dominica. Stay blessed and beautiful.

  • @cierafe okay thank you too i understand what you mean now.

  • @cierafe where the majority race is blacks...

  • @TruthandBeauty89

I can understand your frustration but the media has been transmitting “all white images” for years now and I doubt it will ever change. Look at models like Gisele Bundchen their limelight far exceeds that of any black model be it light skinned or dark skinned!!!!!!

  • @TruthandBeauty89 Racist!

  • @58fenix lol are you okay? Go look up what racist is then come talk to me.

  • @TruthandBeauty89 Dark skin is actually not beautiful. That

    sounds racist and I'm fine!

  • @58fenix meh good for you! Black don't crack!

  • @TruthandBeauty89 Dark skin is gorgeous, but please keep in mind that even dark skin can look lighter in bright lighting. I honestly don't believe that her skin was lightened at all and it was the spotlight that she was under that caused her to look lighter.

  • I agree that her skin was lightened for the cover. There is a history of magazines lightening our skin (Gabby, Beyonce - L'Oreal ad) and darkening our skin to vilify blacks (O.J. Simpson).

  • that's messed up! I can see Tyra Banks getting ticked off about them retouching her to make her lighter!

  • and i agree they so retouched her, they do it with Beyonce aswell

  • i wish i was airbrushed in real life lol

  • they DEFINITELY RETOUCHED HER SKIN.!!! & ITS SAD ppl should like her for the way she is .she is not ugly dark skinned neither is she ugly light skinned. but still these photographers should stop trying to change her. she is a pretty dark skinned girl & thats the way they should keep it.!

  • I think she was absolutely re-touched to look lighter and it's a damn shame. Evening out skin tone is a lot different than changing someone's skin shade to 4 shades lighter-if it were as simple as that, the "re-touching" of super light women like drew barrymore would cause her to glow in the dark! These magazines simply make issues regarding the "right" hair/skincolor/ethnicity/body size, etc, etc even worse and promote only one type of woman, which nobody is. BTW, you look perfect in this vid.

  • @EruditePirate I agree with the glow in the dark statement... so funny! It's a sad reality but I know that half the models I meet do not look like their pictures. I'm seriously mad when photographers over retouch my images. Its so dumb because when you submit to an agency they prefer unretouched images to see what you REALLY look like but then they book you in magazines to be retouched. Who knows... I never do lol

  • I actually really really like this video because it's just spot on!! I really like the fact that you're willing to have your makeup off AND compare to one of your own retouched pictures and admit to it. I think you look beautiful retouched and natural :).

  • Damn, you look amazing for wearing no makeup! You've got flawless skin! xx
