  • Where did this cartoon come from, and how old is it? It's quite good!

  • @spamdude1 Can't even say. I guess early 50s. Thanks for watching.

  • They should show how the Bigger corporation destroys the other small local businesses and then becomes a monopoly and then boosts it's prices! Resource Based Economy FTW!

  • @boumar19721972 Funny. I haven't noticed Wal-Mart boosting their prices. Thanks for watching.

  • @incomeinvestor Probably they haven't destroyed enough businesses yet in your community. Even if they don't boost there prices, how fair is it to the small guy that can only buy a few items for let's say 10$ while Wal-Mart buys truck loads and gets the same item for 5$ or less so they can sell it at a fraction of the price of the other fellow, is that just?Well that's how capitalism is built. And with people that are paid less, guess where they'll shop if they can save 50$ and more on groceries?

  • @boumar19721972 Yes, that's how capitalism is built. To give customers the most for their money. Why pay more to a local business? Who, by the way, used to keep prices higher than they had to. I heard a good example from one of my management teachers in college. His athletic club could undercut a retailer on athletic shirts, but he didn't dare lower his prices for retaliation from other locals. But that means customers were paying too much to support inefficient businesses.

  • They left out the part where ODM stock price plummets when the investment banks preferred customers, who were offered shares at a discounted rate in advance of the IPO, dump their shares.

  • @tcorourke2007 LOL- thanks for watching.

  • @incomeinvestor how does the stock increase or decrease in price? Is it by the income of the company? I'm still confused....

  • @lhrmeonom Hi, the company's income is one factor, because the more money the company makes, the more it is worth as a business. However, stock prices change basically thru supply and demand. The more people want to own it, the more the price will go up. If nobody wants it, the price will go down. Investors can want the stock because the company is doing well. And overall market affects price too. Right now we're in a bad market, though it's improving lately.

  • @incomeinvestor Thanks. What affects the market?

  • @lhrmeonom Lots of things. The economy. Politics. The general mood. Right now it's pretty gloomy.

  • @incomeinvestor And is there a profession of stock investing? I'm interested in becoming a stock investor.

  • @lhrmeonom Depends. Investing on your own? No, you need to do something else to earn the money to invest for your personal portfolio. Unless you're already rich.

Fund managers get paid a lot of money to invest other people's money. I guess you

need probably at least an MBA to get hired on Wall Street.

Some people, such as Warren Buffett, start up their own funds. Lots of

paperwork, and you better be able to sell your skills to the wealthy people you want

    to invest money for.

  • @incomeinvestor Thanks a lot for the info. I'm still thinking about my profession. I'm a freshman in high school so I guess I still have some time. I've always wanted to take the business path but not sure in which one. Can you give me some helpful tips?

  • @lhrmeonom That's tough, because I know nothing about you. You have to decide, work in someone else's business or start your own? What do you like? Learning to sell is a good foundation for everything in business. What do you like to do? Here's a good place to learn about making money online.

    The Warrior Forum

But working for a big corporation may be more for you. Ask some adults you know who own or operate businesses for help.

  • @incomeinvestor Thanks!

  • @tcorourke2007

Elmer Fudds brother @7:02-7:10 did'nt know was bussinessman also.

I would love to see how this video would break down whats happening with wallstreet..

  • Thanks for the great info pack video.

  • @simonsezwhat1 Thank you for watching

  • The stock market has slightly changed from this video, obviously this does narrow down a lot of the basics.

  • @SmartStocksGame Hi, thanks for watching.Yes, computers have changed a lot, made the process faster and enabled online exchanges instead of open outcry marketplace, but basics are still the same.

  • This video only glorifies the good side of stock. Yet it doesn't tell you that you can easly Lose all your money. And I agree with fetmabebis big businesses crush little ones in the same field. But once our state goes bank-rupt do you think these big businesses help or stay around? Nope, Sear is closeing stores as I type this and all those people who have stock in it get little to nothing for their money. If we had many little stores, with little to no stock options then it'd be better.

  • @MadCannibal123 Yes, of course you can lose money in the stock market. The purpose of the video is to explain its basic purpose, which is to raise money for businesses so they can expand and be more successful. Investors can share in that success by owning the stock. I advise buying broad stock indexes so you don't depend on any one company, which can fail.

  • 8:20

Fucking brainwashing... This system leads to suppression, class gaps and environmental threats. What happens here is that only a few corporations gain a whole lot of power, which makes them control the market. They can basically do what they want, even though it hurts others. They will also make it harder for new corporasions to establish.

The perfect society is built upon an amount of smaller corporation, a strong government and balanced wages.

  • @fetmabebis Thanks for exposing yourself to capitalist brainwashing. Your perfect society sounds like China to me.

  • @incomeinvestor I think you have to motivate that one.

China is a horrible country where the state works as a company, and not as the peoples way to live together in peace and harmony. The class gaps are enormous, and it has never been a socialist country.

  • @fetmabebis Well, I mentioned China because it has 2 of your criteria -- strong government and smaller

companies. I wasn't sure what balanced wages meant. China has a large income gap

but probably smaller than US because I don't believe anyone is up to Bill Gates level - yet.

It was socialist until after Mao died, in the eyes of many.

  • @incomeinvestor It has never been socialist.

  • @fetmabebis Well, tell that to the Great Helmsman Chairman Mao and his fans such as the Revolutionary Communist Party.

  • Capitalism = works. Corporatism where corporations begin to purchase politicians = doesn't

  • @Losuol Thanks for watching.

  • Thank you so much for posting this, before this the stock market seemed so confusing but it makes a lot more sense now when the video simplifies it.

  • @jfabproductions Thank you for watching it.

  • Do stock-holders still elect the directers of the corporation to this day? If so, how and when? Do he directors have term limits after which they are eligible to run again?

  • @JRudolph86 Yes, stock holders still elect the board of directors. These elections and any proposed rule changes are done at the annual meeting corporations have. As for term limits, I've never heard of that. However, some corporations may have such a rule.

  • Thanks for sharing! The complexities of the finacial market have always escaped me. The audio was naturally a little rough. I'd like to see if I can find this video on dvd, do you know what the title is?

  • @JRudolph86 Hi, thanks for watching. No, I don't have the title, and since it's public domain I doubt it's available anywhere on DVD.

  • O-well, if you aren't franchise of the BIG church, you ain't gonna make fodder for money.

  • gullibility: Easily deceived or duped. And you're talking about WHAT? Are you a Confidence man?

  • propaganda video makes the stock market looks attracting, the truth is much harsher.

  • @nemesisdesign Yes, it would certainly be a terrible thing if Americans invested in public companies and shared in their business success. Might undermine their gullibility to socialist propaganda. Thanks for watching this piece of propaganda for capitalism, the system which has created tremendous wealth in the world.

  • @nemesisdesign then y did u watch it? BOOM, GOT U TROLL!

  • Very cool vid!!!!!!!!!!!!! I always wondered how to creat a ticker....

  • @truhmenahdotcom Thanks for watching.

  • Head over to starstockhub . com to learn more

  • Hello

  • Nice video, it's really simple although things are different now. I want to know, do you have to go to school do trade in stocks? What kind of math do you need to know? Basic math? Algebra? I can't do investing because I am on a fixed income but I do find this stuff to be interesting.

  • @WeatherMondacicci Hi. Actually, the stock market does still function the same, though using a lot more technology. It still raises money for new businesses, though that activity is slow now because of the poor economy. And it always provided a market for people to buy and sell every day, and some of them have always pushed that to the limit. For stock trading, you need a degree to get a job trading someone else's money.

  • By this rich will only get richer, bank will earn from never ending interest. In animation it looks happy picture. Look at reality

  • @thetopgun4you The reality is the stock market allows everybody to participate. Tens of millions of ordinary Americans are participating in the stock market through pension funds, retirement accounts and just plain buying and holding. If you choose not to participate, that is your choice. There are many companies that will open up a DRIP account for people for a few hundred bucks. Anybody can have one if they want.

  • It would be cool if the stock representatives use the hats in real life ! )

  • @saeta LOL! Thanks for watching.

  • Do i have permission to use a couple clips of this for a english presentation? im in high school please respond :) il be sure to give you credit

  • @funnychoccookie Sure thing, just include the link back to the video here on Youtube.

  • So in reality it's all funny money just to make fake profit for us to buy things that we want and not need... It's amazing how much Capitalism sucks and even more amazing how we all have let it grow into a monster that'll eventually bite us in the ass for good. I hope it all changes someday.

  • @TheTomosh Since you don't "need" your computer, why are you even online? You're right, though, we should imitate the workers paradise of North Korea. Then we'll have only what we need, nothing we want, such as plenty of food to eat.

  • @incomeinvestor Allow me to retort, I NEED my computer in order for me to do my role inside the whole capitalistic system, that imitating North Korea was just dumb dude, but how much stuff do you really need in your life? I'm saying let's take advantage of what there is but not abuse of it, the whole food thing is a disgustingly delicious world, it's good to eat all that crap but just once in a while, eat healthy from time to time.

  • @incomeinvestor You don't like North Korea? Why not, since you think capitalism "sucks"? It's one of the few examples of a noncapitalist country left in the world. Or maybe you prefer Cuba. You want to take advantage of what is? What is, is, because of capitalism. It wasn't communists who created the wealth of modern society. Now you think wealth-building should stop with you, never mind what the next generation may want.

  • So about those facts at the end.... where is an easy way to understand THOSE?? XD

  • @InfuserGod Hi, for many kinds of investments such as mutual funds, you'll want to request the prospectus. Most are now available online. Individual companies are required to file annual reports, and quarterly reports. Those should be available on the company's website. You can also search the Securities and Exchange Commission EDGAR database --

YT won't let me put the link in here, but Google has it.

  • When was this video made? I love the part about converting industry for war purposes.

  • @er876897 I'm not sure of the date. Not recently, obviously. Still, the basics of the stock market hasn't changed.

  • @incomeinvestor Ya it was a good video actually. Do you know of any other good ones? I was hoping to find a full length, well made film about the basics of the stock market. Thus far, I have had no luck finding any really good videos, just short ones that explain bits and parts. I find it hard to believe that nobody has made a full length film explaining the in's and outs of the stock market, since there seems to be videos explaining every other facet of life.

  • @er876897 Sorry, but I don't know of any full length videos on the stock market. You have a good idea, but remember that almost all full length films are fictional movies. Nonfiction movies or documentaries don't do well at the box office. There aren't many of them. TV could be a good outlet, but people at PBS do some good stuff but don't care educating people on investing. Cable investing channels might be interested.

  • What a great animation and I'm very impressed!!! Kudos and keep it up!

  • @globalfinanceschool Thanks for dropping by and watching it.

  • So if got it at $1 and $2 they will get an average of $1.5 a share?

  • @Wkwok11 If you buy an equal number of shares at $1 and $2. It's just simple arithmetic.

  • Can you buy more shares of the same stock???

  • @Wkwok11 - Sure, you just have to give your broker a buy order for what you want.

  • thanks

  • Obama needs to watch this video.

  • @TheAspietunes LOL - thanks for watching it yourself.

  • That didn't seem biased at all.

  • @Sumtimreh It aims to explain the basics of how the stock market works. That's for watching it.

  • I'm glad for this video and I'm considering going into finance, then again I flip flop a lot I really just have a love of knowledge, but I digress. The only thing wrong with this video, or rather the system it describes, is that it thinks that growth is infinite. Which is impossible without infinite resources. What we need is a resource based economy, not one based on money and debt.

  • @Nervousification Hi, thanks for watching. As an old science fiction fan, I have to tell you, there're still a LOT of resources in the rest of the universe. We're not going to stay trapped here on Earth, nice as it is here.

  • @incomeinvestor So the concept of infinite growth is alive as long as we inhabit another planet, or possibly the moon. Then again I guess we could simply take resources and bring them here, in some instances. I don't think that's a very reliable plan though, especially considering we already have the technology to run a RBE and a significantly greener energy supply. As it is now, we make more money by intentionally wasting resources with products designed to break and be replaced.

  • @Nervousification Space is very big. There's plenty of room to live there -- not necessarily the moon or another planet either.

  • @incomeinvestor Unless we develop a method to create a worm hole, we're limited by our galaxies, and maybe the Andromeda galaxy since it's caught in out gravity, but the rest are moving apart faster than the speed of light so normal travel wouldn't be plausible. Still, why should we rely on a system who's proliferation rests on getting resources from another world when we can organize an economy that makes due with the resources we have here?

  • @Nervousification The galaxy is not much of a limit :) In fact, there's PLENTY of room for artificial worlds to orbit the sun just in this solar system. We should rely on capitalism because it's the only system that has created enormous amounts of wealth for humanity. It's the system that will eventually solve the environmental problems. And humanity should leave Earth to live because otherwise our survival as a species is limited to one planet vulnerable to disaster.

  • @incomeinvestor In what ways will capitalism solve the environmental crisis? I've been under the perception that it only incentivises people to waste more resources to sell more products. Plus we already have green energy available, but because of money (Which would not be a factor in a resource based economy.) we chose not to use it. When you're dying and you have the way out, what sane person would not take that way out simply because of the money?

  • i'm gunna have to walk myself through this step by step as i'm not smart enough.. stupid slow brain! but did find it very helpful

  • @joemobumtwizzler Watch it as many times as you wish. Thanks for coming by.

  • This chopped it down so easily that i can start to make money now because i know what i'm doing.

  • @TheKevinK44 - I'm glad the video helped you understand the market -- but it's NOT enough for making money in the stock market. Please see my new book Stock Market Investing for Beginners: How Anyone Can Have a Wealthy Retirement by Ignoring Much of the Standard Advice and Without Wasting Time or Getting Scammed on Amazon

  • Excellent

  • @yahoochat , Thanks for watching!

  • Excellent

  • how old is this?

  • @LOLfilms100 - about 50 or 60 years

  • This is awesome!

  • @rangerofgondor8 -- Thanks for watching!

  • Well, thanks for coming by and watching.

  • To get money back without selling the stock, you have to buy stocks that pay dividends. The amount depends on their price. You can find some relatively cheap. Also, you can open up a Dividend ReInvestment Program (DRIP) for a small amount of money, and they'll automatically reinvest dividends so your investment grows automatically. Google DRIPs.

  • @incomeinvestor no i think i will just keep my money going into the purchase of PM. This stock market is pure fiction and I live in reality. Same reality that says the inflation is coming like a bat out hell. Also the stock market is showing a deadcat bounce screaming its really really soon.

  • how much money do you have to invest in the stock-exchange that will result in getting more back?

  • @convener777 How long is a peice of string????. As long as you spend a penny, then u can expect returns. However, some companies offer more shares instead of cash dividends. Microsoft for example, they usually give you more shares. so if u owned 2 shares of microsoft, then they will reward you by giving you an extra 2 so u now have 4 shares of microsoft. But you will need the stock to rise in price for u to make any profit if u decide to sell. Most iinvestment papers will show company dividends.

  • @convener777 It also depends on what type of brokerage firm you use aswell. Some firms will allow to open up for acounts for as little as£10 and others will only allow you to open accounts if u have assets worth more than £10,000.

  • @convener777 Its not the money but what stock you buy, the more of that stock you buy, the more you will make, but the more you have to lose.

  • Punishment for falsifying investments is....a slap on the wrist and bonuses for everyone in the company!

  • Thanks for coming by and watching.

  • The UK is a corporation.

  • The stock market still serves to raise cash for new companies. There haven't been many lately because of the financial crisis. There've always been speculators who attempt to use liquidity of stock market to make money. It's nothing new. But if the stock exchange did not allow constant buying and selling, people would be reluctant to ever buy, and that would restrict raising capital for startup companies.

  • so outdated as that is how it did work. Now it is a ponzi scheme casino

  • Thanks for watching. Do more reading and watching, and how the stock market works will sink in.

  • Thanks for posting this. I understand little of the whole process works. :-)

  • There is a lot of competition for the capital to expand and be publicly listed. There's not enough money to fund every small company.

  • This complex process seems to be designed to keep competitors out of the market.

  • That's not the original purpose of the stock market, which is the subject of this cartoon.

High frequency trading is people taking advantage of the liquidity of the stock exchange to try to make a lot of money for themselves. It's been around for many years. Jesse Livermore started out trading in bucket shops.

  • Where does high frequency trading come into it.

  • You're welcome. Thanks for watching.

  • I love old cartoons like this that explain really complex things such as the stock market in such simple terms. The combination of easy-to-interpret visuals and a coherent narrator makes this very easy to understand. Thanks for posting.

  • I'm planning to write an introduction to the stock market and stock investing, but it's not there yet. In the meantime, you can read Stock Market for Dummies or similar books. Schools are relatively expensive. You can learn the same stuff from a library book. Be very very careful of anybody who wants to take your money - especially if it's more than $100. There're a lot of sharks in the investing info world. And don't believe anybody who tells you they can teach you how to beat the market.

  • Yes, and the stock market helped finance countless technological improvements that have made the Internet easier and more useful. Yes, many dot coms failed, but the technology was pushed to progress at a much faster pace. I was online in 1995. Youtube couldn't exist, because nobody had a high speed connection, only dial ups, one video file would have taken up most of my entire hard drive.

  • and then the internet was invented...

  • the government won't let me move my gold across national borders any more. look insuranceat2012.c om

  • @pwolfe1987 - What's that got to do with the stock market?

  • Thanks for viewing the video anyway :)

  • Whar a scam!!!!!!

  • nice :)

  • @FreeSTOCKnolossROBOT - Thanks for watching!

  • @letmesee8756 - Winston Churchhill once said that if you're not a socialist at the age of 20, you have no heart. If you're still a socialist by the age of 40, you have no brain.

  • Hi, Lizzy. Yes, you can sell shares of stock listed on the stock exchanges any time you want. In normal times, there is never any problem selling a small number of shares of a major company. Stay away from tiny companies, especially those not listed on the exchange. Even if you had millions of shares, if it's a major company, you could sell them, but your selling would drive the price down. Us ordinary investors don't have to worry about that.

  • @incomeinvestor I want to become an investor, is there any school where i can take a few classes to learn all that there is to know about buying/selling/exchanging stocks so to not make any mistakes? you can pm me.

  • thanks for uploading ^^ i have one question: if i were having some shares and i want to sell, may i sell it whenever i want? how bout if nobody want to buy? thanks before :)

  • i love cartoon explanations!!

  • @rushme1992 -- Thanks for looking at this one.

  • @incomeinvestor THANK YOU SO MUCH ARE THERE ANY OTHER VIDEOS THAT I CAN WATCH SIMILAR VIDEOS TO UNDERSTAND THE STOCK MARKET BETTER??? OH AND IS THERE A VIDEO THAT YOU WOULD SUGGEST TO WATCH TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO UNDERSTAND THE DOW JONES....

  • Yes, pro trading firms use computers to arbitrage prices between markets and options, and that buying and selling has to be automated. The opportunities come and go too fast for human-speed decision making. But those traders are taking advantage of opportunities and don't care whether stock is going up or down - they're delta-neutral. However, stock direction is driven by traders and investors who do have an opinion regarding stock direction - up or down.

  • why i need to spent 4 years of college to learn something like this ?

  • @moistfaucet so you will not put all your money in some start up company and lose it when it goes under. there are trends in stock prices that college will teach you to look out for. and if you are going to college for this you are not just learning it to watch out for your money but for the people who pay you for investment advice.

  • Can someone explain this to me like I am five?

  • @wraithmastr2 Hi - say you own a small neighborhood business with a popular product. You want to sell a lot more. But first you have to make a lot more of your products. That costs money. Expanding your factory, buying more materials, hiring more workers etc. So you ask the stock market for that extra money. In return, you give them partial ownership in the business. If your product is good, the business succeeds by selling it all over the country or world, and everybody makes money.

  • That was so informative; explained everything so clearly.

  • @mrlluis93 Thanks for watching. I wish I could get everybody on Wall Street to watch it, to remind them of why they're really there!

  • Wow, this should be easy enough for our government to understand. Anything after 8:20 needs to be watched and rewatched. LOL.

  • @TheTJLH Yes, we all tend to forget what the basic purpose of the stock market is. The press likes to make the Dow Index a drama -- up or down today -- but fundamentally it should be linked to the economic performance of the company, and therefore also the country.

  • who determines the price of stock? is it done by computers? and if so how did they determine it before computers?

  • @lvll138inrs Hi, the price is TRACKED by computers (and by paper before them), but it is DETERMINED by supply and demand. If lots of people want a stock, they'll bid the price up, just like at an auction. If nobody wants to buy it at current price, its price will go down. And what makes people want to buy or sell is often related to the two dominant emotions of fear and greed. If you follow the news, you can see that fear is dominant now. During bull markets such as late 1990s, it was greed.

  • @incomeinvestor Weeeeeellll, that's not entierly true anymore. Computers these days have gotten so fast that they can notice small shifts (we're talking fractions of pennies) in stock prices that occur when prices update and these supercomputers buy and sell in the same fractions of a second to turn a profit. The problem being that around 2/3 of the stock that gets sold and bought is now automated by thes computers. So computers do determine the price of stock to a rather large extent.

  • That helped me a lot! Im doing a computer class project in school.

  • ronpaul2010

  • So... from what I get out of this: the stock market merely STIMULATES growth, and of course it is like a loan to the business.

What would the world be like without the stock market? Maybe a bit slower, but better place.

  • 50 bucks says that the investment banker is circumcised, judging by the character

  • Wow that was easy to understand. Thank you.

  • thank you very much, I like it how you combine childhood cartoons with the real world to help educate people.

  • now al thing make in china no company can compete with thier cheap stuff hence co. closed and stock goes down add a jew jew in there with thier ponzy schemem u have a disaster

  • if you want to buy shares to you have to go to the bank ?

  • how about the "honesty is the best policy" sign when that cartoon dude walked in to the NYSE!!!!! bbbbbbaaaaaaaaahahah what a fuckin joke, those people are beyond unethical

  • @geoff1424 Could not agree with you more. I totally disagree that growth in an economy equals the growth in quality of life WORLDWIDE. Greedy people who do nothing and don't work with their hands gain more profit because they pre-arrange buys and sells. The money is not running out! They are keeping it away from the working class. I am no communist, but the truth is companies that produce nothing but paper and legislation have more money than those that produce water, food or medicine.

  • @Rocksbert Something to think about.

  • @Rocksbert amen, communism is a beyond failed system but there needs to be some reform no doubt nigggaaa!

  • @Rocksbert greed is not necessarily a bad thing. what you see as a greedy businessman expanding his production capabilities by building a factory actually produces a lot of jobs, and those people normally get benefits from those jobs like health care. The problem is most businessmen are moving their factories to china because its cheaper to produce things there. A big reason for this is taxes.... thats why cap and trade is a bad idea, it will make the problem worse.

  • Lovely lovely video - Information was made so clear in the 60s

  • Buy Nintendo stocks. I'm no stock market genius, but their stocks are going cheap, and their company looks set to recover within the next couple of years, thus their value would increase. It seems like a worthwile investment with a high chance of it paying off in the end.

  • @ShadowRSonic their stock dropped because investors think the wii u is going to be a flop..... i wouldnt dump all my money into nintendo stock

  • I actually watched this whole thing.

  • ha miss 1965 was censored, what is 2011 considered????

  • hi...anyone know safe online stock trading?...because i found tons of them and i did not trust most of them and i heard some sites give you Wrong indicators or just make you lose your money..can anyone Help me with that before i start
