  • Died much too young!

  • Opps, sorry thought it said "Johnny Bravo show" I wish Johnny Cash was more like Johnny Bravo......

MARIO AND JOHNNY BRAVO 4 LIFEEEEEEEEEEE!

  • One of my favorite writers in history!

  • THIS FUCKING OWNS!!!!!

  • Ohn God how miss Mr, Mickey Newbury .

  • Genial! whats name of that two music?

  • Absolutely the most brilliant singer and songwriter, ever. Songs so filled with emotion, one can't help but be moved to tears by the poetic imagery of the lyrics, and the haunting beauty of the melodies. I have almost everything this man ever recorded, and their is not one bad song amidst the lot. Words can't really describe the depths of this man's talents. One has to sit and listen to the songs, and then it all becomes crystal clear - genius.

  • 'She even woke me up to say goodbye' is one of those songs that appears simplistic

but plumbs the depths of human emotions. There'll never be another Mickey Newbury.

  • EMERALDEMMY - Nashville is what killed country music , that is why Mickey left Nashville. I know because my husband and Mickey were best of friends. lynng1947

  • My God, I never knew of this man..... I love him

  • Why arn't there more like this in Nashville today? Who killed country music?

  • Mickey Newbury Is One Of The Greatest Songwriters Of All Time & He Is Not Even Known Too Alot Of Music Fans

  • Johnny Cash knew him and loved him. That counts for a LOT.

  • @WOODYSKYM I agree. It is a shame. I have his 33's. Love him.

  • @denniss265

The only shame here is that you are fighting against patriots of the country you fought to defend. You're a ignorant, foul-mouthed & immature man-child unworthy of having done service with the fine men & women who put their lives on the line defending this great nation you are ready to hand over to the criminals illegally violating our border & murdering us on our own soil.

Delete your YT acct, get your wrists broken & fade back into the obscurity you belong in.

  • @WOODYSKYM I just posted that I never did and I'm stunned ! I found Sweet Memories by Brenda Lee which I love, she phrases and does the melody of that chorus to break my heart (which it is) and that's how I found Mickey Newbury. Can't get over it, and he's been gone for 8 years.

  • what an amazing man! he deserved all the recognition and fame of the artists that he wrote for and made famous!

  • A great tune....and great lyrics too! How can you not tap your toes and like this kind of beat? I can't.

  • My father had a friend who sang with him since high school,..in the Embers. When I was little, dad would grab a horn, a sax or clarinet or something, and they'd play pool, music and drink beer till long after my mother didn't approve.

Maybe he was the only man I remember my father being in awe of.

It took me years to understand, my dad was a jazz player, and what did this guy have to do with Benny Goodman or Stan Kenton?

It's how music works,..the rules are only for the marketing guys.

  • ~ still ~

  • Who's the idiot that down-thumbed all the heartfelt comments below?

  • Mickey Newbury was my friend & inspiration.. we met in Houston, TX in 1966 at Doyle Jones Recording Studio while Donny, Susan & I were recording "Time"... He played "Here Comes the Rain" for me between takes, his voice & the song made me cry & I vowed one day to record the song, and did.. Mickey & I became friends & I was fortunate enough to have him come down to Corpus & spend the weekend talking & singing.. He was a wonderful human being.. I still cry when I hear him sing.. Lofton Kline

  • Hi Lofton. I've admired you for a while and nice to meet you here on YT. On several of Mickey's songs long time ago, he used that whistle that you hear just before the music on this vid. Do you remember which songs or which albums he used the whistle on? I've been trying to find for I while.

  • That was my 1st Mickey album I believe....San Francisco Mabel Joy....the whistle and the train...

  • Thanks, Coleboe1, I've been trying to reconstruct that for a long time and this really helps.

  • @Coleboe1 It was 1st Mickey album also. Probably my favorite of all times. I knew every word of every song. Thanx for the memories .

  • I still choke up when I hear "Cortelia Clark" or "Mablel Joy"

  • cortelia clark is one of my all time favorites...

  • Thanks for posting this. I discovered Mickey too late also. A phenomonal talent. If you have ever tried to write a meaningful song (one that is also entertaining), you'll appreciate what Big John is saying at the introduction. This is great.

  • I Miss Mickey

  • Sheer talent. Mickey could write a song to make you laugh or cry....

    Gone too soon.

  • You're all so right. Mickey was truly God's gift to us all. Not only so talented as one of the absolute greatest songwriters of last century and unbelievable singer, but a truly wonderful human being. The dancing may be over but Mickey's music will always go on.

  • Mickey Newbury should be listed as a National Treasure. He is that talented....both as a performer and a songwriter as well.

  • Thanks for posting this fine example of something that you don't see much on TV anymore: real TALENT!

  • Johnny Cash did a great job of pointing out some sincere insights about Songwriting. That was very well put Johnny.

Mickey's albums had a so very special touch put in them on the recordings of each song that made them ten times more interesting, touching and powerful. He was Poet of poets.

  • CLASSIC!!! Newbury never received half of the recognition he deserved as a songwriter or singer! His voice had an uncanny ability to transport you to a nostalgic time....to a peaceful, dreamworld of the warm Southlands... pure magic! Thanks so much for posting this extended video of Mickey's appearance on the Johnny Cash Show! Two legends in one video! A timeless treasure!!!!

  • Mickey Newbury is unreal, one of the most talented guys in the history of music. It's a shame we don't see more footage like this out there. Thanks for posting! R.I.P. Johnny & Mickey, thanks for the music.
