actually for the Amin you can let the low E ring bc its really the same chord just an inversion. you're still using the same notes.

I sometimes fake my bminor this way....1 on e string 2nd fret, 2 on b string next fret down, 3 on g string next fret down....then only strum those 3 strings.

He's right though, you need to force yourself to do barre chords, it opens up a world of possibilities to your playing. Keep trying. You'll get it. And heck, if you can do an F chord, you can do a b minor. They're really similar to do, physically.
