She is amazing. It is also amazing that she auditioned TWICE for AGT, and was rejected. Either they have no concept of talent, or that show doesn't REALLY want the best. Glad You Tube was able to get her on.
I had the same problem at Conservatory when they tried to teach me how to make my falsetto voice better. The only problem was I had no falsetto! I didn't have to do anything special, as it was my natural singing voice, and that's not unhealthy at all! You make it sound like Jackie is doing something special to make her sound more adult, when she isn't. like me, it's just her natural voice. Hell, they accused Teresa Brewer of being a 40 year old midget at 12!
That may well be your opinion, but the controversy is by a lot of nosy people who don't know how to mind their own business, and don't know squat about music. Who is to say what is healthy for her. You shouldn't be able to sing Neesun Dorma at age 11, yet Jackie sings it beautifully. I sang Mussetta's Waltz at 11, and it's harder than Neesun Dorma, because it requires a lot more range, and Coloratura technique. It's not unhealthy, if it's your natural voice!
Penguin waddles!! If that isn't the most darling thing!! ... Jackie may only be 11 years of age but she has an understanding of this world and life that not even some 40+ year old adults have. She has a massive amount of zest and joy for life and all of these factors, aside from her voice, make her a precious gem all on their own.
The brain may be more developed, the Dr. speculated as no scan was apparently done. But her body hasn't developed enough to sing the way she is with a healthy approach. Here is an article by an expert speaking on the explicit dangers of vocal damage which children are at a greater risk for than any other age group.
She is talented folks, but the technique and body aren't there to protect this talent. Get over the excitement and look at facts.
@Baritoneewart It wouldn't let me post the link. Search vocal damage in children due to singing and look at the fourth or fifth link down titled Vocal Health. It will be a ,edu address.
@Baritoneewart Well, I think that there is one fact that a lot of "concerned" viewers who post their opinions here may not be aware of lately, and that is how she performed 11 songs at her Dallas concert, and all that she needed was a few sips from her water bottle, and never missed a note! She also got 11 standing ovations and 4 curtain calls. An artist as intelligent, and as talented, as Jackie knows when she is pushing to obtain too much amplitude and she backs off instantly without losing...
@holywells ...any vocal quality. So far, she has had very competent sound people who have used the proper types of microphones with the correct setting for the gain. The notes seem to flow easily from her voice as she almost "becomes the song" that she is singing. In my many years working in the sound and recording industry I have seen very few singers that have the control that she possesses. As she moves her arms during the piece she is performing, she seems to be almost "conducting" herself.
@Baritoneewart, Oh, and by the way, the scans and vocal cords shown by Dr. Rosen are Jackie's, so scans were done! I'd like to point out that none of the worlds greatest music schools back up these so called Experts on the net! They won't even comment on it! She's already the greatest child Soprano that ever lived, and stands a pretty good chance of becoming the greatest female vocalist who ever lived! She has also grown 6 inches since AGT 2010. She'll do fine, I assure you.
@theonejrs The chords presented on this being supposedly Jackies is simply a supposition. Even if it wasn't, unless she is being scoped every six months, it is of no consequence. Vocal damage with the way she is singing right now can come at any time. Regarding the greatest music schools silence on the subject... have you ever considered that they don't care? She wasn't accepted at Julliard for their children's program. Wonder why? That's a comment in and of itself.
I was already successful as a professional singer before I attended Conservatory.
It's not a comment about anything at all. Julliard does not accept anyone under the age of 14 for their Children's Program. Jackie is given a full examination, and is scoped twice a year by the University of Pittsburgh's Medical Center's Music Department, under Dr. Clark Rosen, the head of the Department. According to them Jackie shows no signs of vocal cord wear.
@theonejrs Again, I have yet to see any information other than the supposition you've provided that Jackie is getting the professional help she needs to ensure health. I have only heard of Yvie Burnette on the show coaching her once or twice, which is far different than the years it's actually required for a healthy production of sound. And Dr. Rosen giving her consistent care is also new news. Got a link to prove it?
@Baritoneewart, What would you like me to do. I'm certainly not going to dig back to find Lisa's post. I will ask Mike for it, as he posts on one of the other forums. All Lisa said was that they had hired a local coach for Jackie. She didn't give a name, and all she said was that he lived near them. Dr. Rosen is a given. That's where they took Jackie in the first place, and there is no other facility like it anywhere close to them, It's good that they live where they live.
I'm totally dumbfounded that it's been discussed on other forums and blogs, including Lisa's posts, and I do know people here who have seen and discussed the information. It should be common knowledge by now. BTW, Yvie worked with Jackie long after AGT was over with. As far as I know, Yvie is still Jackie's vocal consultant. She has been since before OHN came out. They seem to stay in close contact, via tweets. Again, I will ask Mike, and see if he can help.
@theonejrs A post on Youtube doesn't cut it. I can't find anything else via Google or any other search engine regarding her training. Lots of rumor and theory out there. I'm interested in the facts. I feel badly for Jackie, just as I feel for Charlotte Church when the same hype hit her. Now her voice and career are ruined when they should be really taking off. You are all zealots... remove the vicarious living through this poor child obsession and concern yourselves with protecting a young child
@theonejrs Search for an article done by the Huffington Post titled Opera's Got Talent by Suzanne Mentzer. Here is an article on what it means to be a real opera singer. Singing an aria or two doesn't cut it. And notice that this real, and quite famous singer, doesn't mention Jackie at all... wouldn't she if Jackie was the greatest of all time? Wouldn't Jackie be the subject of the entire article?
Not really. Jackie is not an opera singer. With all the tools Jackie has, it's possible she could become a great one, if that's her desire. Most don't recognize Jackie's talents because she's a Child. Experience tells me that when you reach her level,of ability, you know if you are doing something you shouldn't be doing. The signs are unmistakable and can't be ignored. I never tried to prove it, but I think my voice would have shut down had I continued!
I just felt like inside I didn't want to do it because I was afraid I would see a picture I might not want to carry around with me in my head, for the next 40 years or so. It wasn't fear of doing damage, or even pain. Like I said, you can't ignore it. Jackie and I have many similarities and parallels. We were the same age, height, and weight. Both believe it's a gift from God. Like Jackie, something came over me when I sang. I thank God for it every night!
@theonejrs Sounds to me like you had terrible technique. Most singers I know have been singing for 40 or even 50 years and are still singing at the top of their game. Placido Domingo still sounds fantastic, even though he is now singing Baritone, at age 73! Proof that with good technique you have longevity. If you don't have longevity as a singer, you are doing something wrong technically. If you felt like you were doing something wrong, you should have found a different teacher...
You will never learn, so this will be my last post on the matter. All you want to do is argue. You make assumptions without trying to know the facts, like trying to assume that I had terrible technique, because only lasted 47 years. You get all flowery and all knowing, but you sing the same song as all the other nay sayers, with everything concerning Jackie being negatively done. Like so many before you, you keep trying to twist my words.
@Baritoneewart, You assume that because Charlotte church has had problems, that Jackie will have the same problems, when the only thing they have in common is both sing beyond their years. Charlotte didn't have Jackie's talents, or her family life. All she does is complain about the press ruining her career. It couldn't be the fact that she was a foul mouthed little brat, (something Jackie will never be)! So continue where you left off, but don't post to me again, know it all!
@theonejrs Charlotte Church had problems much like all other child stars, because of all of the extra attention and inability to grow up as a child should. Her voice was also ruined by singing too much, too heavy, too soon. Folks said it would happen then, it was only a matter of time, and then her career fizzled. Keep in mind, there were just as many Church zealots as there are Jackie zealots. Heaven forbid a teenage girl has an attitude problem! I don't claim to know it all, but I know enough.
@Baritoneewart Per your bowing out only to return to have the last say only to demand that I not post to you again... oh childish one... remember that you replied to a several month old posting. I haven't been back onto Youtube regarding this since then. But, whenever I see mental health at risk, I find it to be my duty to help out as I may. You are clearly disturbed if you think everything is hunky dory with Jackie and that there isn't something wrong, and everyone just twists your words around
@Baritoneewart I stopped for lunch! I answered you because you sounded like a reasonable person. All of this has been going on since AGT 2010 and the WSJ Gossett blog. This just the same old, same old, made up of of the exact same questions from over 1 1/2 years ago, over 5000 pages at one time. I meant flowery in a more complimentary way. I know you aren't a troll, and you do have some knowledge about the subject, and you Are genuinely concerned and aware of the pitfalls.
@Baritoneewart, I would love to see you join Classical Crossover UK because we have people there that can better explain things. We have MDs, Neurologists, people with all sorts of degrees in music. It's a moderated forum, so no Trolls, and the Owner and Mods are very fair, and rarely heard from, so they do allow a lot of leeway, ato give people a real chance to be heard, without resorting to having to yell. We don't fight, we discuss and learn. There is a lot of info there!
@Baritoneewart, Once in a while someone will get upset about something and get a little bent out of shape. The Forum allows that sort of stuff to settle down on it's own, so it's not like they intrude. There's also Jackie Evanco Fan Forum, run buy a real mice guy named Phil Maddon. Mike Evancho has recently been posting there. That's where I was going to ask Mike about the New Coach, something you might consider yourself. Phil's leash for trolls is short but fair! I swear he can smell them
@Baritone. Seriously, you would be welcome, either place. They have some very intelligent people over there, that don't mind speaking out, when the need arises. They're a good bunch of folks, from all over the world, and pretty much a community, and some access to the Evancho's themsleves.
BTW, I apologize for being so childish. I had a really bad day, and should have stayed off-line. Early in the day I discovered that one of my best friends was murdered in a home invasion/Burglary. Ugly!
@theonejrs I looked at Classical Crossover UK and it looks like a site for fans of Classical Crossover. In the case of Opera, I think Classical Crossover is a term reserved for those who can't actually sing Opera well but want to anyway, and because they pop it out and make it easier due to lowered expectations, they have a career doing it. It's insulting to the art form. It's like being famous for painting the Mona Lisa by numbers... Sorry, I don't support that.
@Baritoneewart The biggest problem of all though, is that a young child has once again become caught up in the media beast and fans all around put on the blinders when it comes to the inevitable consequences. Rather than actually educate themselves, they piss and moan when anyone else speaks up and says somethings wrong. If there wasn't something wrong with it, why would so many people take issue with it? Who doesn't want to see a young child happy and successful? Rather, I think thats the issue
@Baritoneewart everyone would like Jackie and those like her to be happy and successful. It is a mixture of the fear of her harming her voice and her mental health for the future, as well as a mockery of the art form that many spend their lifetime working at perfecting only to have the world proclaim that an 8 year old has done so. It's a laughable claim at the cost of a child's safety and well being due to an over all laziness for education. Instant gratification is the motto of the world today
@Baritoneewart So in order to defend such actions, folks invent a new genre called crossover, in order to have their cake and eat it too. In Classical Crossover magically children can accomplish things that should be impossible... sounds like an invention by Steve Jobs, a distortion of reality. It shouldn't be supported, especially by those who have been trained and know better. I would ask yourself if it's really Jackie, or this affinity you feel with sharing a similar past?
@Baritoneewart I'm sorry if you feel offended in any way, but until I see this little girl grow into a well adjusted young woman who can still sing just as well as she could at 8 supposedly, with no consequences for doing things that experts say she shouldn't do... I'm not sold. Until I see her do it, I will continue to condemn it. As a teacher myself, I have a moral obligation to do so.
@Baritoneewart I see charms in both Genres, but many, like yourself don't. Natalie Dessay is my favorite opera singer. I had a business trip scheduled to go to Avignon, France, that I co-ordinated with Dessay's performance as Olympia, performing "The Doll Song" at The Chorégies d'Orange festival, in 2000. It rained all the way there, but not a drop on the Festival. Lots of wind, but no rain. At 37 Natalie made you believe she was a little girl. Fabulous performance.
@theonejrs I was about to say so long and fair well, but it seems you can't help yourself but post something else but an hour later... If everyone you debate with on this topic "twists" your words around, perhaps you should take a closer look at what you are saying. Generally speaking, when a lot of folks disagree with you, it's because there is something wrong with your argument. By the by, I haven't posted on here in months... it's not my fault you decided to respond to my previous comments.
@Baritoneewart And I don't know what being articulate has to do with anything other than demonstrating a proper education, but if you have a problem with me being flowery and decided to have a supposed career singing coloratura at the same time... pot calling the kettle?
@theonejrs When people go on and on about someone who doesn't follow the normal rules I immediately turn skeptical. Every excuse for Jackie stems from a Superman type theory. Whenever Superman was in a situation he could escape from, miraculously he had a new power. Not only does Jackie apparently have invincible chords, a total lack for a need of coaching, but she has the presence of mind to know when she is doing damage to her chords unlike professional singers three times her age...
@Baritoneewart It's entirely possible that people aren't ignoring Jackie's talent. Rather, they look at a child, seeing many child stars of the past turn out the same way, and ask the question where is the oversight? Because there isn't apparently any. And when folks who do know what they are talking about post online and say her voice can't take the abuse... it's all Superman Theory as a response. Jackie is special... B.S. I say. Science is science friend and no amount of feelings change that.
@theonejrs Her growing six inches doesn't really make sense regarding her vocal health number 1. Number 2, you haven't heard all child sopranos from the dawn of time so you really can't make the claim that she is the best who has ever lived. And unless you plan on living forever, you can't really make the claim that she is the best who will ever live either. Lastly, unless your successful career as a child singer wasn't brought about by vocal coaching as well as a degree, then it doesn't matter.
Growing 6 inches means better lung capacity. No one has heard every child singer since the dawn of time, but music records are kept as the all phases of singing. Jackie's range is broader, she has perfect pitch and perfect relevant pitch, has almost no perceivable pasiggio between her head voice and her chest voice, and lovely vibrato. Before Jackie, Jenny Lind (a professional Opera singer at age 10) had been the greatest. It took 180 years for that to change!
@theonejrs Growing 6 inches giving her better lung capacity doesn't give her the years of training and experience to understand appropriate use of set lung capacity. I also doubt that you have the degree you claim to as your grammar is terrible. Not to mention that it is a contradiction in terms to call relevant pitch perfect. Either it's relevant or perfect. Who is the greatest singer of all time is a subjective question that cannot be answered to any level of surety. Just another jackie zealot
Sorry you are right, it should be Relevant Pitch. Sorry about the grammar. It's difficult when you only have 500 letters to play with. I just discovered that I could answer my own post and continue your post in order.
What you are failing to understand, is Jackie has all of these tools and abilities right there in her head. Some she's even experimented with, from time to time. The knowledge and ability is there. Her body just has to catch up with it.
@theonejrs Jackie is not superman, nor God, nor some amazing superhero. She is talented to be sure, but she certainly lacks the experience, knowledge, and training that a professional singer in her position should have to ensure the longevity that she desires. If Jackie were in her 30's she wouldn't be famous. Stick to the circumstances, it's because she's a kid who sounds like an older woman that she is as famous. And she will likely fizzle out unless she is taken care of and changes her tech.
@Baritoneewart I believe that Jackie will last as long as she wants to last and know it all trolls like yourself cannot change that. In any case she has set herself up for life as she is already a multi-millionaire, made so by her incredible talent.
@MrKwahwerd It never ceases to amaze and astound the dire need for someone who knows absolutely nothing about the subject matter being discussed to add their strong emotions and beliefs to the conversation like they are a matter of significant fact. I'm happy that you have a vivid imagination MrKwahwerd. Unfortunately for Jackie, people like yourself who live in a fantasy world about the rich and famous will be the reason for Jackie ruining her voice. Better to know it all than to know nothing.
What a fantastic testimony to the genius of Jackie Evancho. And what a fitting tribute to her parents and family for their recognition of her brilliance and their nurturing love that allows her to develop her talent and share it with the world.
At last, a sensible explanation for her astonishing talent - her brain!
Jackie is an intellectual and emotional genius with astonishing control of her 11 year old voice and lungs, astonishing interpretive ability of world class music, astonishing ability to empathise with her audiences, fellow musicians and people in general, astonishing self discipline to rehearse and practice, and astonishing self control and focus to produce world class performances every time, no matter the occasion.
@musicman53 Agreed. Just the fact that she as an 8 year old had an emotional and musical connection with "Phantom Of The Opera" shows that she had an exceptional appreciation for adult subjects and art.
@jimjosh64 I love this interview! Thank you so much for posting it...I agree the post should be positive...Really what is not positive about this child. Her voice is a miracle and she is a delight to watch. My prayer is that she will go as far as she wants to go. I am encouraged that her parents are in control their love for her is number one and they will do what is best for their child.
Whoever eliminated Jackie the first two times she tried out for AGT should be fired on the spot. Do you realize what kind of talent these clowns might be eliminating, pay off perhaps?????
@DSTAUBIN1 Maybe she wasn't quite ready. Her voice has matured very quickly. She has even improved since the show.which is really hard to believe. Besides I believe that God did it His way. As you can see she didn't need to win to go on and live her dream. Michael Grimm needed to win so both have been blessed 8 )
I'm a bit perplexed about the time line( Always was) , if Jackie went to see Phantom of the Opera and started singing the songs at age 8 right after viewing the movie , shouldn't Jackie be 5 years old since the movie was released in 2004/2005(Unless she saw the movie at some special showing) ? I'm sure the real story was Jackie saw the movie at 5 and the video of the movie was bought a year or 2 later and Jackie sang along with the movie video around the house.
Nice going jackass. you crazy-ass christians make all christians look like you. Abbilee, Bugnutsrunnels, or no-one else said they were Atheists. just you. and even if they are you are way more hateful to not-you's than any Atheist I ever met. Who insulted Jackie's beliefs? nobody. Only your belief that Jackie shares your belief. You are your own "special" christian. you don't speak for Jackie, me or any other christian. got it?
@jofjonesboro AGT is not a talent contest; it's a competitor in a television ratings contest. They use the pretence of a "talent search" to get viewers. The whole thing is rigged from start to finish. That said, however, they do uncover some great talent -- as well as a bevy of "joke acts" -- which they manipulate for the making of what is part talent show and part soap opera.
Quote from Jackie Evancho: "I do not have any tricks to warming myself up or doing something before a performance. The only thing that I do is, I say a prayer thanking God for this gift and asking Him to be there on the stage with me and sing with me".
You want to know where Jackie's power comes from? Now you know.
@simnesan Thanks for posting that quote from Jackie. Of course, atheists will continue to disparage the little tyke's beliefs because they have no respect for anyone else.
@KaptKan1 I love Jackie and her music. She is a sweet, wonderful, super-talented little girl. We are here for Jackie, not you. Jackie's beliefs are hers, not yours. You soapbox here only to validate your own fantasy. You need an enemy to validate your self importance. Today it is me. I just don't have the anger and hate you possess to make this any uglier than you have already have. Look back to your posts. The Troll here is you.
@abbilee447 That's odd; it seems that people are refuting YOUR posts, not mine. You managed to start conflicts with several others, not just me. That fairly decisively makes you a troll.
If you could just refrain from attacking others' beliefs this "discussion" would not happen in the first place.
Therefor, this is my final communication with you; you've already got too much of the attention your inadequate personality craves.
@KaptKan1 Merde, I don't think you realise what a troll is if you think Abbilee is. Her discussion is adult and on point, yet you make ugly child remarks. shame. We love Jackie, you love you. go please.
@chyrisseable I "make ugly child remarks" while you noble atheists, who are so "adult", start your comments off with a filthy word in my second language. Your hypocrisy, like your stupidity, is infinite.
I've been saying for a year now that "Jackie Evancho is a clear case of angelic possession!" She says "possessed by the music," I say, "possessed by an angel in the Heavenly choir," but it has been clear from the start that she goes into a special state when she sings. It's always fascinating to watch her "snap out of it" at the end of each song.
And it's not her "brain" that allows this, but her SOUL.
I think it was a pretty good interview and report on Jackie. I wish they would have spent a little more time on her .. and less on the bird man though. :)
@cureloms I think it funny to hear childish supernatural explanations attributed to Jackie's amazing personal talent. Christians especially grasp at anything to propagate a myth instead of accepting the fact that This little girl is a wonder in her own right, At 11 years old Jackie accepts that a God may be responsible, but even Jackie has the maturity to accept that it may Just be her own special Talent. It would be nice if for once people would allow Jackie the credit she deserves.
@abbilee447 Jackie is sometimes reluctant to say her talent is from God, because of criticism from people like you. Wherever her talent is from, clearly she was born with it. But she deserves credit for the hard work and determination it took to develop it.
@abbilee447 You just insist on calling her sacred beliefs "a fantasy"; I'm sure that contributes to something, but not to anything good. Your infantile need to snipe at the belief that there is a higher power in the universe than the narcissistic egotism of some random atheist broad shows that you are vastly less mature than that -- or any other -- 11 year old girl.
Why don't you troll elsewhere and come back if and when you ever grow up.
@abbilee447 I think everyone here gives Jackie a lot of credit for taking her raw talent and working very hard to develop it. Question is, Where did that raw talent come from? Do you think that attributing that gift to the express, individual and gracious choice of the God of the universe would be less respectful than attributing it to the mere chance of genetic accident? What greater: saying Jackie was given a favor from God before she was born, or Lucky Jackie, she won the roll of the dice?
@abbilee447 It would be nice if for once you atheists could just shut your traps and keep your bitter cynicism to your evil selves. It would be the biggest surprise in a long time, too.
@KaptKan1 Cynicism? I love Jackie for her, in her own right. To think she couldn't be Jackie unless a deity gave something to her would be disrespectful to Jackie. You berate me for not accepting your fantasy of gods and souls. Why would that bother you? We both love Jackie for Jackie. Does everyone have to think like you?
@abbilee447 You are the disrespectful one given the following: "I say three prayers every night to make sure that God knows I thank Him so much." ~ Jackie Evancho
“Fundamental, Bible believing people do not have the right to indoctrinate their children in their religious beliefs, because we, the State, are preparing them for the year 2000, when America will be part of a one-world global society and their children will not fit in." ~ Peter Hoagland, Nebraska State Senator and Humanist, 1983
@abbilee447 Credit she deserves? She is 11. It is not like she created herself or decided she would have an angelic voice. It was given to her. She made the choice to use her gifts, but she did not create them herself. She is acknowledging that this was given to her. We are all given gifts, but many of us choose not to use them, usually because a lack of confidence in some way.
Thanks jimjosh. Jackie never ceases to amaze me. Hope this interview brings her lots of new fans, but I think they got it wrong. Jackie's not superhuman, she's fantabuloso!
@cureloms I think science can explain many things. And science can be correct. And science may be able to explain Jackie's talent, but science doesn't stand alone. Science comes from God.
@VMARIE20 I agree, and you can just bet that if she mentioned anything about God having a hand in her wonderful gift that they edited it out altogether. Typical networks for you, but at least they let her say that it was a "miracle", and we all know where miracles come from.
She's not shy about giving "God" credit for her gift. I've never seen it edited out. They wouldn't dare! Here she says she's "Possessed by the Music", but she also has said that it's like God joins her on stage. She's said things like that or similar, many times. It's never been edited out!
@bugnutsrunnels How cutesy, Bugsy -- and how typical of you, sadly. If God is the Creator of the entire universe, then actual real science is a function thereof. Likewise, He can do what He likes with it. Even militant atheists should be able to grasp that. If you don't believe that, fine, but Jackie DOES, and there is a world of difference between simply saying that you believe her talent is a fluke of random evolution and calling HER belief "fantasy" as your evil little playmate abbi did.
@bugnutsrunnels And here I thought I was allowed to comment, too! None of this is about this person or that person; it's about atheists' attempts to intimidate and control others. Every time somebody says, "God" anywhere on Youtube -- or anywhere else -- hordes of atheists descend, like a Biblical plague of locusts, with their gratuitous insults of others' beliefs.
We don't go to Amy Winehouse videos to point out how well atheism served her, but atheists troll in to insult Jackie's beliefs.
@KaptKan1 No, my question was to find out what VMARIE20's thinks science is, and how it relates to Jackie, Not if her gift is from God. I personally don't have an answer for that. I apologize if I gave you the wrong idea.
@bugnutsrunnels And I apologise if I jumped all over you. However, I thnk that people should decide for themselves whether Jackie's talent is a gift from God or a random genetic mutation. I further think that they should not go about insulting others' beliefs or starting campaigns against those beliefs every time somebody has a different one.
I get sick of atheists harassing people who dare to differ with their dogma. We who believe in God have a right to express that belief and to live it.
@bugnutsrunnels The pure kindness shows Jackie has wonderful family and friends surrounding her. No need to apologize for anything, Bugs. Actually, this is a good example for young people like Jackie. When someone watches a person drunk and belligerent, or zoned-out on drugs they are less likely to engage in a similar activity.
A grade A Miracle right before our eyes and ears,,so good to be alive to witness it,,thank you JACKIE...

@Baritoneewart,
I had the same problem at Conservatory when they tried to teach me how to make my falsetto voice better.

@Baritoneewart,
That may well be your opinion, but the controversy is by a lot of nosy people who don't know how to mind their own business, and don't know squat about music.

She is talented folks, but the technique and body aren't there to protect this talent. Get over the excitement and look at facts.
Baritoneewart 5 months ago
@Baritoneewart It wouldn't let me post the link. Search vocal damage in children due to singing and look at the fourth or fifth link down titled Vocal Health. It will be a ,edu address.
Baritoneewart 5 months ago
@Baritoneewart Well, I think that there is one fact that a lot of "concerned" viewers who post their opinions here may not be aware of lately, and that is how she performed 11 songs at her Dallas concert, and all that she needed was a few sips from her water bottle, and never missed a note! She also got 11 standing ovations and 4 curtain calls. An artist as intelligent, and as talented, as Jackie knows when she is pushing to obtain too much amplitude and she backs off instantly without losing...
holywells 5 months ago 6
@holywells ...any vocal quality. So far, she has had very competent sound people who have used the proper types of microphones with the correct setting for the gain. The notes seem to flow easily from her voice as she almost "becomes the song" that she is singing. In my many years working in the sound and recording industry I have seen very few singers that have the control that she possesses. As she moves her arms during the piece she is performing, she seems to be almost "conducting" herself.
holywells 5 months ago 6
@Baritoneewart, Oh, and by the way, the scans and vocal cords shown by Dr. Rosen are Jackie's, so scans were done! I'd like to point out that none of the worlds greatest music schools back up these so called Experts on the net! They won't even comment on it! She's already the greatest child Soprano that ever lived, and stands a pretty good chance of becoming the greatest female vocalist who ever lived! She has also grown 6 inches since AGT 2010. She'll do fine, I assure you.
theonejrs 2 months ago
@theonejrs The chords presented on this being supposedly Jackies is simply a supposition. Even if it wasn't, unless she is being scoped every six months, it is of no consequence. Vocal damage with the way she is singing right now can come at any time. Regarding the greatest music schools silence on the subject... have you ever considered that they don't care? She wasn't accepted at Julliard for their children's program. Wonder why? That's a comment in and of itself.
Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart,
I was already successful as a professional singer before I attended Conservatory.
According to them Jackie shows no signs of vocal cord wear.
theonejrs 2 months ago
@theonejrs Again, I have yet to see any information other than the supposition you've provided that Jackie is getting the professional help she needs to ensure health. I have only heard of Yvie Burnette on the show coaching her once or twice, which is far different than the years it's actually required for a healthy production of sound. And Dr. Rosen giving her consistent care is also new news. Got a link to prove it?
Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart, What would you like me to do. I'm certainly not going to dig back to find Lisa's post. I will ask Mike for it, as he posts on one of the other forums. All Lisa said was that they had hired a local coach for Jackie. She didn't give a name, and all she said was that he lived near them. Dr. Rosen is a given. That's where they took Jackie in the first place, and there is no other facility like it anywhere close to them, It's good that they live where they live.
theonejrs 2 months ago
@theonejrs
Again, I will ask Mike, and see if he can help.
theonejrs 2 months ago
@theonejrs A post on Youtube doesn't cut it. I can't find anything else via Google or any other search engine regarding her training. Lots of rumor and theory out there. I'm interested in the facts. I feel badly for Jackie, just as I feel for Charlotte Church when the same hype hit her. Now her voice and career are ruined when they should be really taking off. You are all zealots... remove the vicarious living through this poor child obsession and concern yourselves with protecting a young child
Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@theonejrs Search for an article done by the Huffington Post titled Opera's Got Talent by Suzanne Mentzer. Here is an article on what it means to be a real opera singer. Singing an aria or two doesn't cut it. And notice that this real, and quite famous singer, doesn't mention Jackie at all... wouldn't she if Jackie was the greatest of all time? Wouldn't Jackie be the subject of the entire article?
Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart,
I never tried to prove it, but I think my voice would have shut down had I continued!
theonejrs 2 months ago
@theonejrs
I thank God for it every night!
theonejrs 2 months ago
@theonejrs Sounds to me like you had terrible technique. Most singers I know have been singing for 40 or even 50 years and are still singing at the top of their game. Placido Domingo still sounds fantastic, even though he is now singing Baritone, at age 73! Proof that with good technique you have longevity. If you don't have longevity as a singer, you are doing something wrong technically. If you felt like you were doing something wrong, you should have found a different teacher...
Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart,
You will never learn, so this will be my last post on the matter. All you want to do is argue. You make assumptions without trying to know the facts, like trying to assume that I had terrible technique, because only lasted 47 years. You get all flowery and all knowing, but you sing the same song as all the other nay sayers, with everything concerning Jackie being negatively done. Like so many before you, you keep trying to twist my words.
theonejrs 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart, You assume that because Charlotte church has had problems, that Jackie will have the same problems, when the only thing they have in common is both sing beyond their years. Charlotte didn't have Jackie's talents, or her family life. All she does is complain about the press ruining her career. It couldn't be the fact that she was a foul mouthed little brat, (something Jackie will never be)! So continue where you left off, but don't post to me again, know it all!
theonejrs 2 months ago
@theonejrs Charlotte Church had problems much like all other child stars, because of all of the extra attention and inability to grow up as a child should. Her voice was also ruined by singing too much, too heavy, too soon. Folks said it would happen then, it was only a matter of time, and then her career fizzled. Keep in mind, there were just as many Church zealots as there are Jackie zealots. Heaven forbid a teenage girl has an attitude problem! I don't claim to know it all, but I know enough.
Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart Per your bowing out only to return to have the last say only to demand that I not post to you again... oh childish one... remember that you replied to a several month old posting. I haven't been back onto Youtube regarding this since then. But, whenever I see mental health at risk, I find it to be my duty to help out as I may. You are clearly disturbed if you think everything is hunky dory with Jackie and that there isn't something wrong, and everyone just twists your words around
Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart I stopped for lunch! I answered you because you sounded like a reasonable person. All of this has been going on since AGT 2010 and the WSJ Gossett blog. This just the same old, same old, made up of of the exact same questions from over 1 1/2 years ago, over 5000 pages at one time. I meant flowery in a more complimentary way. I know you aren't a troll, and you do have some knowledge about the subject, and you Are genuinely concerned and aware of the pitfalls.
theonejrs 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart, I would love to see you join Classical Crossover UK because we have people there that can better explain things. We have MDs, Neurologists, people with all sorts of degrees in music. It's a moderated forum, so no Trolls, and the Owner and Mods are very fair, and rarely heard from, so they do allow a lot of leeway, ato give people a real chance to be heard, without resorting to having to yell. We don't fight, we discuss and learn. There is a lot of info there!
theonejrs 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart, Once in a while someone will get upset about something and get a little bent out of shape. The Forum allows that sort of stuff to settle down on it's own, so it's not like they intrude. There's also Jackie Evanco Fan Forum, run buy a real mice guy named Phil Maddon. Mike Evancho has recently been posting there. That's where I was going to ask Mike about the New Coach, something you might consider yourself. Phil's leash for trolls is short but fair! I swear he can smell them
theonejrs 2 months ago
Ugly!
theonejrs 2 months ago
@theonejrs I looked at Classical Crossover UK and it looks like a site for fans of Classical Crossover. In the case of Opera, I think Classical Crossover is a term reserved for those who can't actually sing Opera well but want to anyway, and because they pop it out and make it easier due to lowered expectations, they have a career doing it. It's insulting to the art form. It's like being famous for painting the Mona Lisa by numbers... Sorry, I don't support that.
Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart The biggest problem of all though, is that a young child has once again become caught up in the media beast and fans all around put on the blinders when it comes to the inevitable consequences. Rather than actually educate themselves, they piss and moan when anyone else speaks up and says somethings wrong. If there wasn't something wrong with it, why would so many people take issue with it? Who doesn't want to see a young child happy and successful? Rather, I think thats the issue
Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart everyone would like Jackie and those like her to be happy and successful. It is a mixture of the fear of her harming her voice and her mental health for the future, as well as a mockery of the art form that many spend their lifetime working at perfecting only to have the world proclaim that an 8 year old has done so. It's a laughable claim at the cost of a child's safety and well being due to an over all laziness for education. Instant gratification is the motto of the world today
Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart So in order to defend such actions, folks invent a new genre called crossover, in order to have their cake and eat it too. In Classical Crossover magically children can accomplish things that should be impossible... sounds like an invention by Steve Jobs, a distortion of reality. It shouldn't be supported, especially by those who have been trained and know better. I would ask yourself if it's really Jackie, or this affinity you feel with sharing a similar past?
Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart I'm sorry if you feel offended in any way, but until I see this little girl grow into a well adjusted young woman who can still sing just as well as she could at 8 supposedly, with no consequences for doing things that experts say she shouldn't do... I'm not sold. Until I see her do it, I will continue to condemn it. As a teacher myself, I have a moral obligation to do so.
Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart I see charms in both Genres, but many, like yourself don't. Natalie Dessay is my favorite opera singer. I had a business trip scheduled to go to Avignon, France, that I co-ordinated with Dessay's performance as Olympia, performing "The Doll Song" at The Chorégies d'Orange festival, in 2000. It rained all the way there, but not a drop on the Festival. Lots of wind, but no rain. At 37 Natalie made you believe she was a little girl. Fabulous performance.
theonejrs 2 months ago
@theonejrs I was about to say so long and fair well, but it seems you can't help yourself but post something else but an hour later... If everyone you debate with on this topic "twists" your words around, perhaps you should take a closer look at what you are saying. Generally speaking, when a lot of folks disagree with you, it's because there is something wrong with your argument. By the by, I haven't posted on here in months... it's not my fault you decided to respond to my previous comments.
Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart And I don't know what being articulate has to do with anything other than demonstrating a proper education, but if you have a problem with me being flowery and decided to have a supposed career singing coloratura at the same time... pot calling the kettle?
Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@theonejrs When people go on and on about someone who doesn't follow the normal rules I immediately turn skeptical. Every excuse for Jackie stems from a Superman type theory. Whenever Superman was in a situation he could escape from, miraculously he had a new power. Not only does Jackie apparently have invincible chords, a total lack for a need of coaching, but she has the presence of mind to know when she is doing damage to her chords unlike professional singers three times her age...
Baritoneewart 2 months ago

Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart,
Growing 6 inches means better lung capacity. It took 180 years for that to change!
theonejrs 2 months ago
@theonejrs Growing 6 inches giving her better lung capacity doesn't give her the years of training and experience to understand appropriate use of set lung capacity. I also doubt that you have the degree you claim to as your grammar is terrible. Not to mention that it is a contradiction in terms to call relevant pitch perfect. Either it's relevant or perfect. Who is the greatest singer of all time is a subjective question that cannot be answered to any level of surety. Just another jackie zealot
Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart
Her body just has to catch up with it.
theonejrs 2 months ago
@theonejrs Jackie is not superman, nor God, nor some amazing superhero. She is talented to be sure, but she certainly lacks the experience, knowledge, and training that a professional singer in her position should have to ensure the longevity that she desires. If Jackie were in her 30's she wouldn't be famous. Stick to the circumstances, it's because she's a kid who sounds like an older woman that she is as famous. And she will likely fizzle out unless she is taken care of and changes her tech.
Baritoneewart 2 months ago
@Baritoneewart I believe that Jackie will last as long as she wants to last and know it all trolls like yourself cannot change that. In any case she has set herself up for life as she is already a multi-millionaire, made so by her incredible talent.
MrKwahwerd 3 weeks ago
@MrKwahwerd It never ceases to amaze and astound the dire need for someone who knows absolutely nothing about the subject matter being discussed to add their strong emotions and beliefs to the conversation like they are a matter of significant fact. I'm happy that you have a vivid imagination MrKwahwerd. Unfortunately for Jackie, people like yourself who live in a fantasy world about the rich and famous will be the reason for Jackie ruining her voice. Better to know it all than to know nothing.

What a fantastic testimony to the genius of Jackie Evancho. And what a fitting tribute to her parents and family for their recognition of her brilliance and their nurturing love that allows her to develop her talent and share it with the world.
onlyjustpat 6 months ago 4
At last, a sensible explanation for her astonishing talent - her brain!
Jackie is an intellectual and emotional genius with astonishing control of her 11 year old voice and lungs, astonishing interpretive ability of world class music, astonishing ability to empathise with her audiences, fellow musicians and people in general, astonishing self discipline to rehearse and practice, and astonishing self control and focus to produce world class performances every time, no matter the occasion.
musicman53 7 months ago 25
@musicman53 Agreed. Just the fact that she as an 8 year old had an emotional and musical connection with "Phantom Of The Opera" shows that she had an exceptional appreciation for adult subjects and art.

@DSTAUBIN1 Maybe she wasn't quite ready. Her voice has matured very quickly. She has even improved since the show.which is really hard to believe. Besides I believe that God did it His way. Russana333 7 months ago

JACKIE FINALLY SAID IT! "Possessed"!!!
God bless Jackie Evancho.

It would be nice if for once people would allow Jackie the credit she deserves.
abbilee447 7 months ago
@abbilee447 Jackie is sometimes reluctant to say her talent is from God, because of criticism from people like you. Wherever her talent is from, clearly she was born with it. But she deserves credit for the hard work and determination it took to develop it.

@KaptKan1 Cynicism? I love Jackie for her, in her own right. To think she couldn't be Jackie unless a deity gave something to her would be disrespectful to Jackie. @abbilee447 You are the disrespectful one given the following: "I say three prayers every night to make sure that God knows I thank Him so much." ~ Jackie Evancho
“Fundamental, Bible believing people do not have the right to indoctrinate their children in their religious beliefs, because we, the State, are preparing them for the year 2000, when America will be part of a one-world global society and their children will not fit in." ~ Peter Hoagland, Nebraska State Senator and Humanist, 1983

it's funny to hear scientific attempts to explain the phenomenon that is jackie. As jackie says, it's a gift from God, a miracle.

@holywells,
She's not shy about giving "God" credit for her gift. I've never seen it edited out. They wouldn't dare! Here she says she's "Possessed by the Music", but she also has said that it's like God joins her on stage. She's said things like that or similar, many times. It's never been edited out!

@VMARIE20 “Science comes from God” Hahahaha. Okay, just for giggles, what exactly do you think science is? Does it apply to Jackie?
bugnutsrunnels 7 months ago
@bugnutsrunnels How cutesy, Bugsy -- and how typical of you, sadly. If God is the Creator of the entire universe, then actual real science is a function thereof. Likewise, He can do what He likes with it. Even militant atheists should be able to grasp that. If you don't believe that, fine, but Jackie DOES, and there is a world of difference between simply saying that you believe her talent is a fluke of random evolution and calling HER belief "fantasy" as your evil little playmate abbi did.

@KaptKan1 Easy there Kap! My question was for VMARIE20. Unrelated to you and Abbielee.
bugnutsrunnels 7 months ago

I apologize if I gave you the wrong idea.
bugnutsrunnels 7 months ago 2
@bugnutsrunnels And I apologise if I jumped all over you. However, I thnk that people should decide for themselves whether Jackie's talent is a gift from God or a random genetic mutation. I further think that they should not go about insulting others' beliefs or starting campaigns against those beliefs every time somebody has a different one.
I get sick of atheists harassing people who dare to differ with their dogma. We who believe in God have a right to express that belief and to live it.

@KaptKan1 Amen KaptKan and well said...8 )
