  • no one ever talks about john paxson lol

  • What happens to BJ Armstrong at 1:24?

  • @briannelms11 I've always wondered that myself. He basically just falls down!! haha

  • Wow I wish my Suns could have won

  • Comment removed

  • The hero of this action is also Horace Grant, at the same level than Paxson!

    Very smart pass!

  • @LerayAndCo It was a set play.

  • Jud Buechler, Steve Kerr, and John Paxson, all white boys having to bail out MJ in the clutch!

  • I feel for the last person who wrote that comment. I am a Chicago native and have the exact opposite feeling watching this. I was only 8 yrs old, but remember this like it was yesterday. One of the greatest shots of all time. And I am ready for this NBA season to kick off.

  • That was our year (Suns) to win it all. It was an amazing year to say the least. The acquisition of Barkley, a brand new arena, new uniforms....if the Suns were to get their first championship, it would have been great to have earned it against one of the greatest teams and greatest players of all time. As a Phoenix native this hurts to the core seeing this. Although the Diamondbacks winning the World Series in 2001 against the Yankees kind of makes up for it.

  • Paxson, you're my hero.

  • who is the commentator? Is he Kevin Harlan?

  • @nba9515 that would be marv albert my friend

  • anybody else notice BJ fall down with the weight of the suspense..

  • This hurts as a Suns fan

  • LOL BJ Armstrong falls to the ground at 1:25 when Paxson's shot is in the air. I never noticed that until just now.

Good thing the play wasn't designed for him!

  • The face of the assistant coach at 2:33 is absolutely priceless.

  • lol barkley lol

  • I love how that whole play happened because of Barkley. He overcommitted on the pass to Pippen, which led to him getting into the lane, which forced Ainge to drop down and help, which left Paxson wide open. Love it.

  • perfectly executed. One of the reasons the Bulls were so tough to beat in those days.

  • Horace Grant's Game 6 stat line, 33 Minutes played, 2 Blocks, 3 Assist, 7 Rebounds, 1 Steal, 1 point. The final score Bulls 99 Suns 98. Moral of the story 1 point by 1 player makes all the difference in the world.

  • @ThomasJowers0 Very well said my brother!

  • that gave me goosebumps, that was perfect.

  • this play was drawn up perfectly. crazy

  • Jordan: 8 points in one 4th quarter

Lebron: 8 points in six 4th quarters

  • hahhaahahahaha @ 2:47 look at the middle right of your screen someone is laughing...

  • Dan Majerle knew that shot was going in.

  • John Paxson was the reason they won in 91 too he literally took over in the 4th quarter of game 5 at LA he scored like 14 points in the 4th

  • That was Charles Barkley's fault for over-extending on Scottie Pippen at the top of the key.

  • I love the constant ringing in the background.

  • Costas makes this entire clip.

  • @tjwells it's Marv Albert.

  • That's a pretty bad gamble by Barkley

  • @rubthemtogether Yeah, coaches are always telling their players how dangerous fly-bys are & what an advantage it gives to the other team if you don't get the steal or (at least) a deflection.

  • I wonder what Danny Ainge is thinking as he runs back toward Paxson with no chance to contest that three-pointer (he had helped on Pippen's drive to the basket because Barkley had been beat). What an awful feeling!

  • john paxson was my favorite back in the day. great moment.

  • When NBA was REAL BASKET!

  • I like how Charles Barkely tried to talk crap to Pippen. Charles Barkely bet he felt stupid when Paxson made that three. XD

  • the 1993 Suns might've been the best team not to win the title. Barkley, Majerle, KJ, Ainge, Chambers. DAMN that team was good. If only they hadn't lost the first two games at home. Oh well. tough to beat MJ. jordan absolutely cremated them the whole series.

  • @theajroseshow It was a great Suns team, perhaps their best ever, but the 1976 team that lost to Boston in the Finals may be up there as well.

With Jordan retiring the next year, one may have thought that the Suns would have won it in 94 and not Houston.

  • @ilovegod300 the '76 team came even closer than the '93 team did. If Havlicek's bank shot or jo-jo white's free throw don't go in, Phoenix wins that game and closes the Celtics out at home. And on top of that, Paul Westphal would've become much more famous historically. Its amazing how many NBA fans don't know about him.

  • @theajroseshow During his playing days, he was very-well known. Didn't he get traded later in his career for Dennis Johnson?

  • I don't know who it is, but the Bulls player who falls on his arse when Paxson starts shooting would have looked mighty stupid if the shot didn't drop and either the rebound went his way or PHX scored on the break.

  • @23jamesdixon I think it was Pippen hahah

  • @Aaron123Lane Nooo Pippen is at under the basket, he's the one passing to Horace Grant who passes to Paxson, it's a scrub I think, but still hilarious.

  • @23jamesdixon BJ Armstrong. Yeah, if the shot is missed and the ball bounces in his direction, he would not have been in position to do anything. He must have been pretty confident that Paxson was going to hit the shot. I'm sure the coaching staff said something to him about it.

  • @ilovegod300 I only noticed this re-watching the game last night. Would've been hilarious if the rebound came Armstrong's way and he had to launch it from the floor

  • @rubthemtogether Yes, it would not have been a good moment for BJ, especially if the Bulls lose that game and the Suns finish them out in 7. You know, in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Knicks that same year (93), right before Charles Smith gets denied (over & over), BJ shot one from the corner and fell down. I'm now wondering - did he get knocked down or was he falling down thinking his shot was going in (it would have given the Bulls a 4 point lead with just seconds left)?

  • As a suns fan this still hurts

  • What an awful memory to relive I think I was in 8th grade when we choked here. I was a kid and knew not to leave John Paxson open in 3 point country.

  • it's a sham that this is the only thing that people know John Paxson for, he was an actually very valuable player.

  • Great pass by Horace Grant. If that were Carlos Boozer he would have tried to take up himself over two guys

  • @gban16 LOL, if that was Booz he would:

    A) fall on his ass, turning the ball over

    B) lose his grip / fumble the ball as he begins his post-up move, turning the ball over

    C) avoid turning the ball over initially after successfully posting up, only to turn the ball over for an offensive foul as he screams AND ONE

  • @dustybaylor if that was boozer he wouldve dunked that shit

  • ha ha 3 dislikes, must be Phoenix fans

  • Look how much space there was between John Paxson and the Phoenix defenders.

You could've driven an ocean liner through there. And I like how Danny Ainge starts to close in on John P. but stops about half way through as if to say "Eh. What's the point."

  • give Phil Jackson credit for drawing up such a perfect play. 10 seconds and every player on the court touched the ball at least once.

Jordan inbounds to Armstrong. Armstrong back to Jordan. Jordan drives it up the court. Jordan pushes it passed center court to Pippen. Pippen's defender slips up. Pippen drives up, getting the attention of the opposing center, power forward and point guard. Pippen dishes off to Grant in the paint. Grant slings it back beyond the arc to wide open Paxson. SWISH.

  • He's beast

  • 1:02 - that's a double tech! well it would've been in todays nba

  • @badabumbadabing1 as you can see, Barkley's been starting shit even since he was in the league.

  • @badabumbadabing1 No it's NOT a double tech in today's nba.

  • All five Bulls touched the ball on that last play. Jordan to Armstrong, then back to Jordan, then Pippen, then Grant, and then to John Paxon. Perfect execution! Check out B.J Armstrong just dropping to the floor when Paxon takes the shot!

  • This was all Barkley's fault. He messed up the defense for going for the steal on Pip.

  • Check out the song in the arena, Born to be wild plays for Paxson!

  • suns were a dangerous team back then.

  • Damn, that head coach of the suns (Paul Westphal) is still a coach! And he was an awesome player.

  • why have all the best bulls shooting guards been white?

  • @smpl90s you mean point guards lol? they said we need a white man to pass the black man the ball

  • Here´s Paxson for THREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

  • @royalsteven YES!!

  • Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!

  • @royalsteven YES!

  • YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

  • @WineBeerLover Game wasn't over yet. No need to celebrate when you can still lose

  • game 1 vs the pacers, the korver 3 was vaguely familiar to this. haha weird..

  • @WineBeerLover He Celebrated At 1:27.

  • @WineBeerLover He wasn't upset. When the shot went in you can see Jordan jump up with his hands in the air.

  • @WineBeerLover Don't be mad because you drink too much beer and get do what jordan does

  • Can't believe this was 18 years ago. Where has the time gone?

  • the only words that any kid within a 500 Mile radius of Chicago need to hear to get revved up again:

    HERE'S PAXSON FOR THREE!!!!!!

  • Omg. I have a basketball signed my john paxson.

  • he is like kyle korver

  • @StevenRtv don't forget Steve Kerr

  • Phil Jackson looks way older in this video than he does now. LOL

  • I love Ainge but he killed the suns on the possession

  • Does anybody know how beautifully this play The Bulls ran out of the timeout is? The difference between Phil Jackson winning a title and Doug Collins coming oh-so-close.

  • LOL at B.J. Armstrong watching the three go up and in

  • I just watched a video of Danny Ainge in the 1981 Sweet 16. Ainge hit the game winning shot to put away Paxson and Notre Dame. This was almost like Paxson was getting back at Ainge for his Sweet 16 loss 12 years earlier.

  • The radio call of this play gives me chills... Pax knew it as soon as he let it go...

  • ahha the crew cut

  • Great passing and teamwork.. every Bull touched the ball once after the inbound.

  • This play broke my heart when I living in Phoenix as a young boy. Everyone in their mother thought mike was gonna take it to the rack. The Suns collapsed on him and Jackson saw the entire chess pieces in motion 6 moves ahead. Brilliant

  • @kurtcoby

I really want phoenix to win a championship with nash JUST ONCE!

    :'(

    But John Paxson is armazin

  • paul westpaul and danny ainge disliked this video.

  • White Man at the White Spot. Haha

  • that shot single handedly made Paxon a legend- will always be my favorite

  • That's turrible. Just turrible.

  • Paxson shot that like it was a layup. Just grab the ball. Don't think. And let it go.

  • Did anyone hear a little bit of ringing?

  • @BullshitsMike It's recorded off a VHS, that'll happen.

  • Pax was a Notre Dame guy...

  • keep pressing 5 and the announcer keeps saying " THE BALLS!" LMAO

  • @forestk14 I believe he is saying "the bulls" ....

  • look at the guys face at 1:53

He's like oh no no man no this cant be happening.

His face is thinking defeat, sadness, and probably guilt that he left him wide open.

And the guy at 1:23, under the basket, when he sees Paxson about to hit the J he throws his arms/hands up like fuck! and then calls a timeout too..

    I miss the 90's

  • Thanks for this video. Those Bulls teams were awesome.

  • I wanna kno who the guy is that fell down when Paxson took the shot in the corner...Watch @ about 1:24!! LMAO

  • Is that Dick Cheney sitting down next to Paul Westphal?

  • How many other kids in Chicago lined up on the 3-point line for years after this and said, 'Paxon for three... YES!'?

  • john paxson destroyed charles barkley chance of getting a ring............LOL

  • Paxson three, Horace Grant Block.... those are the ultimate role players that you rarely ever see these days. That's why Bull's are legendary.

  • 2.30 owned

  • Ah when basketball was exciting to watch. I'm a Knicks fan too.

  • THis team and not just michael jordan but the whole bulls team is why basketball was so popular universally across the world, pippen, horace grant, paxson, jordan, rodman, bj, they used have basketball card shops everywhere as well.

  • Chuck bullying Scottie 1:01

  • great moment

  • Charles Barkley and Kevin Johnson dislike this video, LOL

  • 1:26 Pippen on LSD...

  • i loved it when the nba finals were on nbc

  • Even the Suns coach loved that three pointer

  • @dustygrady He did look pretty excited,lmao

  • @dustygrady haha it looked like he was raising his hands to clap!

  • could have been Grant who made the basket plus a foul.... great shot by Paxson

  • A 3 for the 3peat. Nuff said.

  • Why the bulls always won in the last second?

  • @vizhtor77 because michael jordan was playing with them

  • @vizhtor77 they just were taunting the other teams. give them the couple minutes of feeling like they will beat the bulls, then they lose in the worst way

  • Grant with the assist and the block after this play.. One of the best teams ever

  • 3 point shot to seal the 3peat!!!

  • Why the fuck did scootie pippen just fall down LOOL

  • @EspadaXZ I think it was BJ Armstrong, right?

  • yeah, it was the "oh shit we left their best three point shooter wide open with three seconds left down by two" look

  • look at majerle's face as grant passes to paxson...epic!!!

  • @teebchee0515 Yup. He knew he's gonna hit that 3-pt when realizing he was far open to try that shot.

  • @teebchee0515

Yes, but I think you're referring to Danny Ainge.

  • that was the shot that made charles barkley grow fat

  • @emaimon1 best comment ever

  • As for the Horace Grant compliments, another thing that I like about him, is that he committed few turnovers. In 1999-00 in Seattle, I beleive that he had some numbers like 180 assists, 60 turnovers. When we drafted Nick Collison in 2003, and he played well in 2004-05, I hoped that Collison could become like Horace Grant.

  • GOD BLESS HORACE GRANT!!!!!! He had the brains to kick it out to JP rather than drive for the fouls. THis victory is FLAT OUT due to Horace Grant! Peirod. End of sentence! Done deal! And who blocked KJ's drive to the hoop afterwards? HG, baby!

  • @Quickstoptim Horace Grant..a true pro, and a great player. I got to watch him for a full season up here in Seattle, playing out of position at center, without complaint. A winner.

  • @Quickstoptim Uh, it's *also* due to the guy that you know... made the three. Without him, the ball wouldnt have gone into the bucket.... just sayin'.

  • to bad he isn't a good manager i mean beating the shit out of his coach

  • Little known fact... His brother was a much better basketball player :)

  • Classic John Paxson. He also played a huge role back in '91 hiiting those clutch baskets against the Lakers.

  • I noticed Marv Albert said yes as the ball landed as if he knew the shot was gonna go in... seems a bit odd... it would be a slight second between the shot landing... I remember having this game on vhs and I watched it the entire summer... it was one of the best games I've seen ... the Bulls always had interesting games back then

  • That is not a fucking 3 , he is not supposed to land inside after he shoots the 3

  • @korshole are u a suns fan or just a dumbass? learn basketball first before posting a comment here.

  • @korshole

You can land in the freaken key and it's still a 3. All you have to do is have your feet beyond the line when you jump.

  • @korshole lol dumbass comment. if you know the rules, which it seems like don't, you would know that if the guy was behind the arc while jumping and fell inside the arc at the end of the shot, it STILL counts as a 3.

  • Watch Jordan just manhandle his defender as Paxson shoots to guarantee himself a strong chance at a rebound.

  • @jungshin87 Jordan was a ruthless competitor, and did all the small things to win as well as hitting the big shots. He's like Kobe Bryant in that way.

  • What a bone head gamble by Barkley.

  • This was all Barkely's fault. He let Pippen get by him and the rotation left Paxon open.

  • BJ fell to the floor cuz i think he had about 5 rebounds his whole career......... He was a 3 point shooter, thats it...... But in the finals, u just always knew that the bulls, during the 90's, were gonna pull it off...... I was 8 yrs old when this happened, watchin the game with my cousin, uncle, and father, and we went NUTS!!!!!! I remember it like it was yesterday

  • I still have no idea why BJ Armstrong fell on the floor when there was a potential rebound to get in the last 5 seconds.

  • barkley fucked up

  • I remeber watching this game!!! I was 5 years old!! I lived in Mt. Prospect (suburb of chicago) at the time.

  • Great court awareness by Horace Grant.

  • I remember this game I was in high school, that was a great shot Oh Man I went wild when he made it!!!!!

  • damn,i miss nba on nbc

  • Ainge why you got to leave paxon

  • @jc2333 because barkley blew the coverage on pippen so ainge was forced to help

  • look at BJ when Paxson makes the shot, lol. BTW he was open too, nice defense phoenix. They took the "no penetration", no penetration" thing a little too serious

  • 0:31 daaaaamn!

  • if i ever start a band i wanna name it "paxson for 3"

  • @milkandmeat i like that

  • can somebody please explain to me wtf happened to bj armstrong (i think it was him) at 1:26? he's at the top and when paxson shoots he just falls down for no reason even though nobody is touching him. i have been trying to figure it out forever

  • @milkandmeat he's just like celebrating in a goofy way.... is actually very funny... people who practice sports do that a lot

  • @tatoinglaterra yeah but he didn't know it was going in. there could have easily been a rebound go his way

  • @milkandmeat he got pushed from a guy on the bench,im guessing they didnt want him to get a shot if it was rebounded an kicked out

  • @milkandmeat maybe he knew paxson was gonna make the shot and started celebrating before the ball went in.

  • WET!

  • i wonder what that coach said to barkley at 0.31 that made him mad??
