  • Miss being able to go watch these launch. Gone forever now! Night launches were like a sunrise.

  • the hole in the ozone layer just got 60 ft wider

  • what a rumble

  • its not the popcorn sound, its the condensation shockwave you should notice...

  • @MrHopgoblin something called sarcasm

  • Excuse me, but it it's great!!! Get the power-wow

  • Oh man I want the song from the beginning of this.

  • Why are the two top comments the same!

  • So that's where my space shuttle went. I hate it when NASA takes my stuff without asking. They must've hotwired it because I still have the keys.

  • talking about popcorn...my marshmallow just got living hell burned out of them!!!

  • mi/g?

  • love the song at the end

  • 2 *thousand* tons taking a little over 40 seconds to be going 700mph vertically upwards. The awesomeness of it makes me shiver. :D

  • kid:mom look... what I did

    mom:WTF... dont play with fire

  • click this to watch the AtlasV mars explorer rip today

  • POPCORNS READY!!!

  • @YvesWonGhz17 Popcorn? Only if your popcorn kettle puts out 215 dB of sonic power

  • @beeroosterm LOL!!!

  • There are Space Shuttles older than me :O the first was in 1980 but was already made in 79. There is even mention of it in a Gordon Lightfoot song recorded in 1979

  • i was there, it felt like the world was splitting apart, it was soo loud i couldnt even hear my self think

  • RIP Space Shuttle . NASA , get your shit together.

  • 240p... we met again....

  • It doesn't matter how loud I crank my speakers, it can't compare to how it sounded and shook the ground when I saw it in person.

  • ive gotta say this is outstanding quality for 240p

  • I worked on the cape, (military not NASA), the popcorn sound is because of a bad recording, not the actual sound. It is a LOUD deafening constant roar. And for miles around, the ground shakes and rumbles & windows rattle. What do you expect for 37 million HP.

As for the exhaust trails, yes, most of it is water vapor but the binding agents in the SRB's make hydrochloric acid and a few more nasty elements, minimal as a whole, but we all pulled our cars into the buildings during the launches.

  • watching the shuttle launch never gets old!! Cant wait to see the next gen. shuttles launch!

  • It sounds like it's tearing the very fabric of space!

  • I CAN SEE KSC FROM MY HOUSE.

  • I didn't realise they go that fast!

  • @johncbradley1 In order to reach orbit, you have to be moving roughly 22,000 miles an hour.

  • @dannon2010 Wow, thanks for the info mate.

  • @dannon2010 Actually, the speed in LEO is roughly 17000 mph or 28000 km/h, but apart from that...

  • where does that knitterings sound come from?

  • Its jus a matter of time before those Chemtrail people start posting crap about Space Shuttles spraying chemicals as they lift off lol.

And i never knew the shuttle sounded like that on lift off. I figure it to be more of a 727 like roar.

  • @6V92TA Lol then we can blow their mind when we tell them it only gives off H2O.

  • @DecentShadow gaspeth! lol

  • got a lighter?

  • I wonder why they still send up shuttles this way, outdated and expensive. Virgin space plane have already left the atmosphere a couple of times. much less expensive, not to mention safer and easier, no more complicated calculations for leaving or landing, at least you have a powered flight after you do enter the atmosphere so you can land, not just some super-expensive glider like these shuttles. but watching the liftoffs is pretty cool.

  • WASNT this space shuttle crash during landing

  • I think my popcorns done.

  • @Dolldarian hold on let me go check lol

  • @Dolldarian LOL

  • @Dolldarian lol

  • Actually 1:09 ... Pretty cool

  • 1:10

  • I would rather pay $25 to NASA than to some welfare program, at least we get some kimd of return on investment from goimg to space.

  • sounds just like me in the restroom =D

  • Герой уже тот, кто просто согласился внутрь этой бомбы сесть ))))))))))))))

  • • I can hear the sucking sound in my wallet every time I watch a launch. $25 per American household per launch. 2,000 space suits at $26,000,000.00 each. A very inefficient way to go to space, and sometimes even ineffective.

  • im gonna miss that...

  • one helluva firecracker

  • damn the sound of those SF boosters is so bizarre...

  • the sound of the science

  • popcorn anyone?

  • sounds like popcorn in the microwave :P

  • @mcmanus1806 o my fuckin god i was goin to post ur comment until i heard the credit music

  • @mcmanus1806 i want popcorn now

  • sticazzi!

  • 40390576,

    '

    haha not a troll doll,,,

    what is about green

  • 40390576,

    '

space shuttle was first idea in 1972,,,

american space shuttle was first fly in 1981,,,

    not ussr russia buran yet,,,

ussr russia was did COPY STEAL from america idea design about space shuttle,,,

    shame shame on ussr russia

  • 40390576,

    '

    haa haa,,,

america is still the best high advanced technology in american space shuttle than ussr russia cheap buran,,,

buran did not send outer space, use dummby dolls test, use R/C system,,,

remember ussr russia buran have low technology than america

  • My popcorn is ready xD

  • cool song at the end :D

  • 203 people are Russians

  • @mfox002 Oh My God! Oh, you're such a smart.

[sarcasm] I'm Russian and yes, I HATE it when someone breaks the sound barrier.[/sarcasm]

    P.S

    *facepalm*

  • What a horrible song at the end lol

  • sounds like popcorn

  • DAMN. that thing must be going over one hundred miles an hour.

  • And Our country wonder's why gas prices are so high xD

  • @JumperParkourTeam the fuel used for the shuttle is completely different from gasoline.

  • @JumperParkourTeam SRB are solid fuel which produce most of the trust. The liquid fuel of the shuttle orbiter is liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen. No fossil fuel were harmed in this launch.

  • @panzerabwerkanone I know, i know... i read up on it after the fact of me posting it...

  • '

i love american space shuttle is the best great wonderful spaceplane more than ussr russia cheap buran shuttle,,,

ussr russia cheap buran shuttle is never to outer space at all

  • @bestamerica Russia has CRAPPY Passenger planes... they are so bad that almost everyday there is at least 2 crashes... the only good planes they have are the military jets like the Su-27,35, 37,47.

  • RazgrisGa,

    '

some ussr russia mig / su jetfighters are crashes too

  • @bestamerica Not that often though because the Russian know what they are doing when it come to a military

  • WoooooooW!!!!!

  • At what moment did it break the sound barrier?

  • @huskyjerk You didnt see that flash? it was replayed in slow motion too.

  • @RawkMahBoat I was waiting for a "boom". Don't craft "boom" when they pass thru the sound barrier?

  • @huskyjerk when the travel speed is above 1236km/h or 768mph

  • its cool and all but i cant help but think it sounds like popcorn haha sorry

  • I grieve for having never gone to see a Shuttle take off.

  • Magnaflow Exhaust <-

  • that'll get ya from point A to point B, and you dont even need that much gas (sarcasm)

  • Okay I tryed an experiment on this video & if you play the Power Rangers in Space theme song as soon the smoke shoots from the shuttle on take off IT'LL BE THE MOST FUNNIEST THING EVER!!!! Try it!!! XD XD

  • no duhh its gunna break the sound barrier...its goin into space!!!!

  • I should've been at this launch but it was posponed because of the lightining :'(

  • They hit 30 when the lose their main external tanks aka the two rockets on the side and 17000 m

  • I wrote and recorded an epic rap song about the History and end of NASA. Help me save the shuttle /watch?v=YeUZN29tdEY

  • Space vehicles. HA! Quantum Displacement is where it's at.

  • By any chance, was William Shores involved in the making of this clip?

  • watch?v=9zJcO-gxh8s

  • @xxnwo1xx wtf i did that wtf????

  • LOOKS LIKE ME AFTER I ATE AT TACO BELL

  • Sounds like making popcorn to me. Nothing interesting. :D

  • That crackling and popping sound from the solid fuel boosters are so badass =)

  • Thumbs up if you cried when the space shuttle program was cancelled.

  • @beer70578 not cried... but was effin sad... especially seems how i missed one of the last 4 launches when it got pushed back

  • I wonder how much NASA spent on bottle rockets

  • why shuttle launch always sounds like cracking popcorn?

  • Must be a bitch to fuel

  • couldnt one day in 50 years or so every ne be blody taking a tip to spack for a holiday? that would be cool, like this for fun! :)

  • After successful Cities on the Ocean, I can't wait for the 1st space colony on our artificial moon. We will explore the Universe on our little ocean launched replicas of planet Earth. It will start with our Magnetic levitation sled launched Space Shuttles that use a fraction of the fuel used in 2011 toward escape velocity. Space cities will be built in orbit, and it all starts now.

  • I saw the same effect around my car today.

  • @zest4lyfe no problem :)

  • The Circus music at the end killed my boner.

  • chills

  • what is that at 1:09?

  • @SHODSKULIPT , Hi, the shuttle breaks the sound barrier at 1:02 and 1:09 is a close-up replay.

  • I will always feel fortunate that I got to see a shuttle launch in person. This video comes closest (compared to all the other videos on youtube) to the intense sound that reverberated across the sky as the shuttle flew out of site. :D

  • Onya William Shores! Top shot!

  • Geek porn.

  • Things like this fascinate me beyond belief...

  • @Steviepth I still geek out on space stuff, no matter how many times I've seen hardware go up. I can't wait to see the new vehicles in the future. If you haven't had the chance to see a Delta IV Heavy launch in person yet, I recommend it. Pretty impressive.

  • @LightMast

Me too lol everything about space is amazing. In my opinion it is the most fascinating thing that we can study. And no I have not gotten to see that launch in person yet, however I live in Florida I might as well take a trip up there next time that happens! Sounds sickk

  • @LightMast now htf did u figure that? it WAS epic btw lol!

  • @LightMast We were at KSC a few years ago and there was a shuttle on the pad. I was so dissapointed that we were not able to time our vacation so we could see the launch.

  • @LightMast hey uhh. i was wondering if you could give me the quickest answer. ive heard a sonic boom from a jet. and ive experienced once from a shuttle landing. but why do they sound different? why does the shuttle's sound so much more clear? also is the reason you hear it when a shuttle is landing because the barrier catches up orr? oh yeah and ive only heard vids of jets doing it so idk if thats the reason or not

  • Think its illegal to do a U-Turn in a Space Shuttle?

  • @twibkidx Well, most U-Turns would result in a break up from the G-Loading- but- some of the abort procedures are like U-Turns..........U-Turns that take thousands of miles =)

  • @LightMast um... it was a joke

  • @LightMast so yea under the speed limit laws of physics, U-turns are illegal.

  • @twibkidx if they do it at a red light that says no u turns then yes but if they do it at a light where there is no, no u turn sign then they can... don't ask about the lights.

  • at 1:10 it breaks the sound barrier

  • @JelloOnWeb OMG You're so right! It sounds to epic! Nice job :) Awesome!

  • Respond to this video...

This video was shot from near the Saturn V center, approximately 5km from the pad.

  • @Arsezz Without launch passes your closest locations run around 20km from the pad.

If there are still passes available the Visitors Center puts you about 12km away, but you cant see the pad, so the shuttle isnt visible until it clears the trees.

If you are able to acquire passes for the NASA Causeway you are 10km and have a nearly unobstructed view across the water to the pad, with the shuttle facing you. Great view.

  • Shuttles dont break barrier till coming in orbit. . . this is it breaking the first astral layer. . .-_-''

  • @purejshots1 You are wrong on both counts- The shuttle breaks the sound barrier on ascent as orbital velocity is around 17,000mph- just a few mph faster than the speed of sound.

Secondly, as we have covered many times in the comments, the visual is a singularity cloud caused by air pressure and humidity. By this altitude the shuttle has already broken the sound barrier.

Astral plane? This is science, not fortune telling.

  • gosh that must of been hot

  • Forget microwaves for this to cook popcorn =)

  • 1:02 is breaking of sound barrier ?

  • I love the music. Darthsnafler - calm down and repent, douchebag.

  • Did you see the white cloud that went past it, like you can see where it broke it

  • PRESS "6" -> for the SONIC BOOM!!!!

  • yep the music is what i would murder a whore with a knife to in my bath tub whilst in drag with your grans panties on my head.

  • Do they know there tail is on fire?

  • whos makin popcorn?

  • @nikota101 ahahahahahaha

  • Okay we get it, Kevin Shores did everything! And Kevin Colber was the bitch haha

  • the music sound like an irish jig :D

  • it sounds like popcorn

  • John, you are mistaken, that is the sound barrier. At the moment of the compression halo they were going to supersonic.

if you dont think a vehicle thats top speed is 17,200 mph. is doing 768 mph(the speed of sound) after 43 seconds of 1.2 million pounds of thrust, you are wrong.

  • That's not the sound barrier, kids. Anyone who's been to an air show on a fairly humid day has seen F-14s passing overhead causing that effect much more dramatically than that, and they're going nowhere near mach 1 at the time.

  • @JohnFromCT71 That effect cannot be achieved if you're going "nowhere near mach 1." When you transition from subsonic speeds to sonic speeds to supersonic speeds (termed transonic), what's happening is that you're creating a Mach cone where the sound gets dragged behind the vehicle in a conic shape. As the vehicle pushes the fluid out of its way, it creates a low pressure behind the vehicle which rapidly condenses into the cone you see. The effect is exaggerated with humidity.

  • @Khamul I might be wrong, but I've seen exactly that effect before during an airshow with fighter planes flying directly over my head only about 200 feet up. They didn't appear to be going that fast, and although the jets were fairly loud, it wasn't a like a sonic boom. Am I thinking of a different effect that looks very similar?

  • @JohnFromCT71 Without seeing the data, I can only make general statements. When a vehicle travels at supersonic speeds, it forms that Mach cone I mentioned previously. The very edges of this cone are shock waves and when the cone passes you, you experience the sonic boom effect. The condensation cone is produced when the water vapor in the atmosphere rapidly condenses because of the very low pressures within the Mach cone.

  • @JohnFromCT71 The effect is (officially) called a Prandtl-Glauert Singularity. It can occur at subsonic speeds provided there is a sonic shock present (so it cannot be produced at very subsonic Mach values). And it is a lot easier to see when it is humid out (since there's more vapor present to condense). The atmosphere is thicker at lower altitudes. Sonic booms and condensation cones are usually associated together, but they do not need to be.

  • @Khamul Actually, I see what confused me. Even in this video you can see condensation clouds forming on the tips of the SRBs (starting at 0:53) for 10 seconds before the larger effect takes place. I had confused them as being the same effect. My mistake.

  • my life long dream was to work for nasa. i guess thats not gonna happen lol

  • mach 1: 1:02

  • can someone just try my suggestion and maybe give me a thumbs up?

  • It was powered by element 115

  • 1. Pause the video at 0:14 and press the mute button.

    2. Open another tab

    3. Go to Youtube and search for Sonic 2 Wing Fortress Zone Music

    4. Play the sonic 2 video while watching this for epicness!

    Enjoy! : )

  • @JelloOnWeb you sir have created a childhood memory so vivid. =)

  • @JelloOnWeb That was fantastic. Thanks for that

  • @JelloOnWeb Thanks, that wuz fun(and epic) lol

  • @JelloOnWeb

    LOL!

  • Brilliant video, you can hear the exhaust crackling, awsome power and noise you can feel.

  • @mcwolfus try this /watch?v=xsRuJ37kyZg&feature=fvwrel

  • @MikeSkanz Thanks for that. I suspect that the sound pressure could kill if you were too close.

  • @mcwolfus It definitely could, no doubt about that.

  • This sound, like a popcorn, is normal or is a problem with audio?

  • @Palitinho15 It is normal to sound like popcorn because that is what the fuel is.

  • Whats that thing @ 1:00 ? is that breaking the sound Barrier? or something breaking off?

  • @vicman7usa2 Breaking the sound barrier.I never knew what that meant but i guess if they show it two times one in normal motion and another in slow motion then that has to be the sound barrier breaking :\

  • @MultiDynomite You have never seen a plane or anything break the sound barrier before? Plenty of those videos on youtube

  • @vicman7usa2 It's a phenomenon called Prandtl-Glauert Singularity: atmospheric pressure reduces in that point, forming visible condensation
