  • I love You Dimitri !

  • Who wrote such poetry that spell binds like this? I wept just reading it!

  • Kutuzov. "The Songs and Dances of Death" can be found on Wikipedia.

  • Thanks! Kutuzov, is that the same Kutuzov who was the great general of the Russian Army in 1812? I did'nt know he wrote poetry!

  • No, that was Mikhail Illarionovich Golenishchev-Kutuzov. The poet was Arseny Arkadyevich Golenishchev-Kutuzov (guessing from the name and date of birth, possibly his great-grandson, no info about him, besides that he was a distant relative of Mussorgsky's). He's not too well known. In fact, if Mussorgsky didn't set two of his cycles to music, he probably wouldn't be known at all.

  • Thank you, I am afraid my knowledge of Russian poetry is limited to only Pushkin and Lermontov.:-) That is a grave mistake that this poet is not more well- recognized! I promise reply to you e-ail soon!

  • This is not my knowledge, this is Wikipedia and Google! :-D

  • The best way to aquire knowledge!:-) Do Russians today still have such long names?

  • You mean, like Dmitri Alexandrovich Hvrostovsky? ;-) One name, one patronymic, one or two long surnames, and voilà, you're in the middle of the line.

  • the names are rich in beauty, but how do they fit them on autographs and checks?

  • @gloria25031

In Russia we often sign papers by writing only initials and a part of a surname and we add a few flourishes to it =)

His autograph may look like just D. Hvorostovsky

  • @whattodowithuname Thank you so much, I had no idea how it was done, since different languages do it in various ways. Thanks again!

  • @gloria25031 depends. you can always call someone by their patronymic name, as long as you know the name of their father. not all have two surnames, and mine is not long at all. Gabitov!

  • @birchdryadgirl Thank you immensely for the information!

  • @gloria25031 welcome!! and since I was born in America, I have a middle name, though it is my mother's maiden name, and it is veeery long and complicated. Yevrukhina.

  • @birchdryadgirl That is a most resplendent name, Slavic names have an unparalleled beauty, such a depth and purity in their sounds.

  • @gloria25031 thank you. really.

  • @birchdryadgirl You are most welcome!

  • Who is the pianist????

  • Sorry, I didn't know cyrilic when I was uploading it :-) It's Ivari Ilya.

  • Actually Ivari Ilja (not Ilya), cyrilic Ивари Илья

  • Ditto under a different video :-) Different ways of transliteration. An English speaking person will read it correctly when spelt with "y".

  • the most difficult Cycle of songs for voice and piano that has ever been written , in the russian classical repertoire !!!

i consider a great achievement for a singer to interpret exactly this Cycle ! Mussorgsky is not an easy composer ...for nobody ...
