I really don't see how letting people suffer without modern medicine is a good thing. Cultures are good but it's more important to have people live healthy lives. That's why I'm not a fan of cultural relativism, too many suffer because of it the stone age needs to be left in the past.

Trust me biology BA here "natural" remedies that people think are so much better than "modern medicines" you know what happens when people find those things? They become medicine, do you want to know where aspirin comes from? Spiraea and the bark of willow trees so it is natural the drug companies just reproduce it and sell it in otc pill form. It's ignorance that fuels things like homeopathy and has made it such a profitable scam.

PIck up a biology and you will see - it isn't one piece of evidence in favour of evolution. It's a mammoth catalogue of evidence that is so overhwleming that it has virtually universal support among earth and life scientists. Evidence in the form of fossils and sedimentary rock, genetics and et cetera.

@Mattyb88ful - Technically there was a Mitochondrial "Eve" and a Y-DNA "Adam" around 70,000 years ago. They may not have ever met each other though. Another problem is whether or not the Adam and Eve story is even meant to be taken literally at all. The author(s) of Genesis may never have intended for it to be seen as literal history. It could be allegory for the formation of man or of man's soul.

Isn't it wonderfully absurd, if you think of it, how he said "in our society they would be the poorest of the poor". In their world there is no poverty. They just do what they do day after day. Which makes me think, is there really such a thing as poverty, or just people forced into a system that simply doesn't work? That is not sustainable and does not allow everyone to live in dignity?

@MajorObvious It's not like that at all. Anthropologists study humans. It is difficult to study alien humans without gaining their trust and building a mutual exchange of cultural information. The only way to learn about them is for them to learn about us. Matches, medicine, steel tools are the things we use for survival. We have to respect their curiosity for our way of doing things. They, like any human, needs to be bribed by basic things like food and useful tools.

I think this is extremely fascinating. These humans are completely isolated from the outside world, and seem to have stopped technologically advancing very quickly, as almost since the last time ideas were spread into their peoples. But they have still developed socially to that of modern humans. It raises a lot of questions delving into man's past and present.
