I see on YouTube a widespread concern for the suffering of the Palestinians. As commendable as this activist's sentiment is, it can quickly lead to a naive, exaggerated and oversimplified view of not only this particular conflict, but also geopolitical reality in general. International diplomacy, world history, political philosophy and moral theory are all far too complex to accommodate silly retreats into black and white conceptions of good/evil and right/wrong.

By international law, Israel isn't occupying any land. The last nation/empire which had recognized legal ownership of the west bank was the Ottoman Empire. The current Arabs who are trespassing on land which is the Jewish homeland are the occupiers. Jews can dig anywhere on the West Bank with a reasonable likelihood of unearthing some Jewish artifact or other from ancient Judea and Samaria which proves that Jewish settlers in the West Bank have returned to their ancestral homeland.

Movements like BDS is probably the most peaceful, potent, and fair way to take punitive steps towards political offenders. I cannot see how a simple boycott is cruel and unusual punishment. Every group has used some form of this to help in their struggles. The American colonists didn't pay the British tax, the Blacks boycotted the buses in the 60s, and no Allies bought a damned thing from the Germans back in WWII. I greatly respect Peace Now, but this is simply bullshit, plain and simple.

Peace Now regularly films illicit settlement building and even violent crimes committed by settlers that are targeted towards neighboring Palestinians. Why would they not support a movement that does not call for violent retaliation against settlers or a cause that does not call for the already beleaguered Palestinians to commit terrorist acts? Peace Now disappoints me completely . They offer no reinforcement in a group constantly split by revenge minded jihadist recruiters.

The settlements are now being bought by Americans. They are heavily warned about the security risk. They build large fences that trap land and water not belonging to legal Israel and station militia outside their villages. All of this, in the interest of capital for Israel and the US. Israel needs as much $ as possible to fund its military exploits. The US is in quid pro quo w/ Israel and needs compensation. The settlements produce American goods at a cheap rate. It all fits in the grand scheme.
