All of you critics? Learn how to sing in different languages until then shut the muck up! You're just a bunch of jealous queens my boys, you've got opinions up your butt holes.
I have, of course, heard the four last songs but can anyone tell me what are the other great lieder written by Strauss? Did he write any other great song cycles?
Oh, oh, and I think she sounds great in this kind of thing. Of course, if you are conpletely in love with a dark butterscotch mezzo sound, I can see why you wouldn't like it. But frankly, a lighter color works great in most of the german rep. LIsten to her high notes- and such enthusiasm. Wow!
Well, those who don't like it can stick it right back up their noses. I, too , have spent time coaching singers, and la Flemming is one of the great soprano voices of our time. Amazing breathe control, lovely sound, even range, etc! While I like Norman alot, she is sometimes off pitch. Not the case here, at all! Frankly, I find many of her little "mannerisms" quite expressive... and she isn't alone in using them if you listen to any other singers besides the big voices from the 50's.
While nobody can deny that Fleming has a beautiful instrument, I think this is clearly not her repertoire. IMHO, she seems unable to find the balance that is necessary for Strauss lieder, between being expressive and just overdoing it. Other renditions of this beautiful lied are much better (I love Norman in this), and Fleming is much better at other works.

The actual voice is not really so bad, but her approach is appallingly tasteless, almost speaking at times, as thouygh she were in a musical. Unlistenable to
Renee Fleming is not in here best form here; c'mon guys, it happens to the best of them! I've heard Caballe sound as if she was a beginner, Pavarotti at the end of his rope, etc. etc. Too bad this is has been posted for all time on YouTube. I've been listening to voices for fifty years and believe me Renee Fleming has one of the loveliest instruments I've ever heard in a big space.
You are so wrong my dear. Obviously you don´t know what you´re talking about. Christa Ludwig is indeed a great musician and singer that sang until her LATE SIXTIES. So, you´re right, there´s no comparison... for Christa. Flemming´s version is tasteless with all those voice manerism she does. Awful!
My mistake about thinking you said she isn´t a great musician. ... but not about matching her voice with Renee. Not that I dislike Renee´s voice, but don´t think of her having an extraordinary voice.
yes, for real. Don´t like those manerism she´s been using lately. Find it tasteless and awful. Anyway, she wasn´t ever one of my favorites. Don´t dislike her but for me, her voice isn´t extraordinary . Prefer others.

o.k. i checked out christa.
very expressive and a wonderful musician, however, the quality of her voice is no match for the golden sound of fleming.

what i should have said was that i have checked out ms ludwigs version of cacilie.
i`m 60 years old and have played the horn for 48 years.
i `ve known of and listened to christa ludwig for many years.
my opinion was subjective of course.
i hope that we can agree to disagree about this.
