The Libertarian Party will always have infighting, because the libertarian ideal is centered around principles. Some people within the LP will be more eager to violate principles for expediency than others, which renders the libertarian ideal hypocritical and counter productive as it projects a view to non-libts that libertarians do not practice what they preach, much like evangelists.
That is why the LP is always doomed to fail and *real* libertarians want no part of it.
"codes" are fine if not imposed by the government. Voluntary association is exactly what libertarians believe in, and if people voluntarily agree not to dress like homeless people or beachgoers, then hoorah.
I'm a 3-time candidate for US House. I earned 41% of the vote the third time with almost no money or volunteers. I am qualified to speak or disagree with Badnarik where applicable.
My point of contention is his tirade for a dress code. Sorry, but "codes" are rules that authentic libertarians like me don't like. I agree that dressing the part when one is a candidate is important. But alienating a less-dressed but equally intelligent crowd is foolish too if we want growth.
@VoteLiberty Libertarian Stereotype #34: Libertarians are slovenly hippies who never take on more personal responsibility than their biological functions require. Nobody will ever take you or your message seriously if you're a slovenly piece of trash.
Your youtube comment is exactly what Mr. Michael Badnarik addressed in his speech.
The statement of "If you want to be a major league player, ya gotta wear the uniform." is not meant to anger but to qualify. This is the way it is. Perception is reality.
You cannot comment of his issue with Libertarian problems. You ARE the person he is speaking about, disagreeing with the smallest of issues. This is what keeps the Libertarian Party diminishing as he states.
@VoteLiberty I think what he is talking about is some of the people like StarChild who dress in drag and end up on C-SPAN. While I respect his right to do that, it does make the party look really juvenile.
there is no liberty as long as the unborn are not included, liberty needs to protect them as well
