elephant man without a doubt most depressing movie of all time. I got a big lump in my throat a few times and almost felt like killing myself at the end.
you should check out Farväl Falkenberg, a Swedish movie..I thought it would be on your list since this video was linked to a video from that film. Now..THAT is a depressing movie! I drank a whole bottle of 54% rum and cried like a baby the first time I saw it, it really fucks with your head.
After watching Ordinary People i felt like slitting my wrists. There's also a British film called Threads which will have you reaching for the sleeping pills.
it seems like the more depressing the movie is, the more award it gets. we human beings love to watch depressing suffering shit. what the hell is wrong with us? i know its artistic and realistic but cmon.
Good list! I think Schindler's list is one the all time great movies, but it's so depressing I've only watched it twice. It's been a while but I saw this movie titled "Testament" once and it is one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen. It's about a family right after a nuclear war. The end really got to me.
Kick ass list! The Butterfly Effect (directors cut) made me wanna kill myself, but it was still a good movie. I'm surprised A.I. wasn't on the list because damn was that movie depressing!
Good list! I'm not a Kevin Costner fan, but I really liked his performance in "A Perfect World." IMO, it's his best performance of his career. The rapport between Philip and Butch blows me away!
Very good choices. I think my list would look more like your honourable mentions. Dogs dying kills me!
I have A Perfect World on DVD but I haven't watched it before...if you cried like a bitch I don't stand a chance! It sounds brilliant though. Will watch it soon...tissues at hand!

Ever seen The Road? I couldn't watch the movie after I read the book, but if the movie's anything like the book, then, holy shit, it's depressing.

Grave of the Fireflies and Ringing Bell. for some reason Japanese movies can be the most happy (Totoro) or the most depressing films ever.

@bellotti8101 Agreed. The last 20 minutes fucked me up. I watched it again yesterday and thought I'd feel less sad the second time. I was wrong.

great choices. requiem for a dream would probably get my vote. I mean, EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER HAS THEIR LIFE DESTROYED.

Yes the Deer Hunter is awful and excellent.
Shindler's List is just a holocaust and well history is hard to take.
I have requesIted Butterfly Effect for my next rental from Netflix, BUT tomorrow I will get A Perfect World :)
Okay for me... I cried like a baby watching A.I.
Just got done with it and I think that you have mentioned it before.... that is why I got it.
Well I have rambled on long enough.
Peace
But coming tomorrow is "A Perfect World" and I am anxious to watch it.
