  • elephant man without a doubt most depressing movie of all time. I got a big lump in my throat a few times and almost felt like killing myself at the end.

  • Threads is the most depressing film ever.

  • I'd have to put "johnny got his Gun" at my number 1

  • Wow,... Cold Mountain is one of the most depressing movies of all time.

  • I'd cry for anyone who was kidnapped by Kevin Kostner.

  • OMG IS THAT JARED LETO???

  • The 3 most depressing movies I've ever seen have to be:

    Requiem For a Dream

    Dead man's Shoes

    Eraserhead.

    <3

  • Ever seen The Road? I couldn't watch the movie after I read the book, but if the movie's anything like the book, then, holy shit, it's depressing.

  • depressing movies make me feel better.. life doesnt have happy endings so why should movies?

  • Grave of the Fireflies and Ringing Bell. for some reason Japanese movies can be the most happy (Totoro) or the most depressing films ever.

  • Requiem for a dream is by far the most depressing movie I've seen.

  • @bellotti8101 Agreed. The last 20 minutes fucked me up. I watched it again yesterday and thought I'd feel less sad the second time. I was wrong.

  • My personal list:

    Million Dollar baby

    Funny Games (1997 versoin)

    The Mist

    Grave of the Fireflies

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

DO NOT watch those last two if you're feeling suicidal...

  • Leaving Las Vegas

  • you should check out Farväl Falkenberg, a Swedish movie..I thought it would be on your list since this video was linked to a video from that film. Now..THAT is a depressing movie! I drank a whole bottle of 54% rum and cried like a baby the first time I saw it, it really fucks with your head.

  • u left out Midnight cowboy & dark

  • requiem for a dream dude, just watching it once makes you want to kill yourself

  • I didn't like a perfect world

  • great list, but your missing "Kes", "Dancer in the dark", and "They shoot horses, dont they?"

  • After watching Ordinary People i felt like slitting my wrists. There's also a British film called Threads which will have you reaching for the sleeping pills.

  • LMFAO!!! I'm pretty sure your joking...if not..then what the hell is wrong with you?!

  • it seems like the more depressing the movie is, the more award it gets. we human beings love to watch depressing suffering shit. what the hell is wrong with us? i know its artistic and realistic but cmon.

  • Good list! I think Schindler's list is one the all time great movies, but it's so depressing I've only watched it twice. It's been a while but I saw this movie titled "Testament" once and it is one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen. It's about a family right after a nuclear war. The end really got to me.

  • great choices. requiem for a dream would probably get my vote. I mean, EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER HAS THEIR LIFE DESTROYED.

  • butterfly effect is a terrible movie and i hated it very disturbing

  • Yes the Deer Hunter is awful and excellent.

Shindler's List is just a holocaust and well history is hard to take.

I have requesIted Butterfly Effect for my next rental from Netflix, BUT tomorrow I will get A Perfect World :)

Okay for me... I cried like a baby watching A.I.

Just got done with it and I think that you have mentioned it before.... that is why I got it.

Well I have rambled on long enough.

    Peace

But coming tomorrow is "A Perfect World" and I am anxious to watch it.

  • omg i love that movie dustin hoffman was great and yes that was a depressing film

  • Kick ass list! The Butterfly Effect (directors cut) made me wanna kill myself, but it was still a good movie. I'm surprised A.I. wasn't on the list because damn was that movie depressing!

  • yeah ai was really sad it would be definatley a top 10 on depressing films

  • Good list! I'm not a Kevin Costner fan, but I really liked his performance in "A Perfect World." IMO, it's his best performance of his career. The rapport between Philip and Butch blows me away!

  • Very good choices. I think my list would look more like your honourable mentions. Dogs dying kills me!

I have A Perfect World on DVD but I haven't watched it before...if you cried like a bitch I don't stand a chance! It sounds brilliant though. Will watch it soon...tissues at hand!

  • Good selection
