The difference between marwan and Mandela is that Mandela was leading a united Africans in their struggle for freedom under the banner of ANC. Palestines are not united. Some want to live in Israel even though they are discriminated against, others want to use force like hamas, where as others subscribe to the ideas of Abu Mazin and his inefficient fatah party.
