Just went to sears and bought the 50ft Craftsman rubber hose today. Also found some cheap craftsman drip timers for only $2.97 each, also with lifetime warranty. I bought one as a backup. Thanks John!
...from those horrible poorly-made hoses - they absolutely reek of toxic synthetic chemicals as well! I cannot even, in good conscience, fill the water receptacles for wildlife with these hose - what being of any species would want to partake of such?
...water, (food growing) soil, and other species. We simply need to stop buying/putting more "stuff" into the waste stream - regardless of whether we can afford it, whether we then donate it, etc. It seems to me that we humans are about as resistant to this idea AS government and corporations. To return to the video, I would be apt to make an exception here - just to purchase quality long-lasting implements instead of cheap landfill-destined ones. And not only can one (taste) the chemicals
Even as I appreciate the concern, I regret that John is perceived as "selling out." This did not occur to me at all. I truly had the sense that his intention was to direct us to what he thinks are the most durable worthy products. And I do NOT shop at malls, chain stores, etc. In fact, I hardly purchase anything anymore. Why? Because I think that we-the-people need to stop looking to government and the corporate sector to lead the way with regard to environmental issues involving our air,
I still can't believe everything is so dirt cheap in the US. I should go over and buy a BOATLOAD of stuff (especially gasoline). You're right about buying quality though, anything else is just generating garbage.
Fiskars is actually a great brand. I always break "professional" equipment with a wooden stick when I work in Finland with all the rocks in ground. Fiskars never breaks. I use their shovels mainly for that purpuse - love the exercise. I also inherited a 30 year old Fiskar scissors from my mom. Still works perfectly in the garden. Had to sharpen it 3 years ago though.
Did John sell out to Sears? I know he likes to show us the good stuff but man this felt like one of those infomercials that try to make you believe that it is a talk show or something.
Please John, say it aint so!
I am all for you making some money from these video but if you ever do please tell us that is what you are doing. Much respect for you bro.
I did not sell out to anyone or any company. In my episodes, I share my opinions and WJWD (What John Would Do). I would purchase high quality tools vs cheap tools (at Walmart), so thats why I made this video. One day I will make available products that I believe in, and may be hard to find.
I got that hose! Still according to seattle tilth it has some lead in it. They recommended RV hoses? I don't know. My personal choice for the best tools are Clarington Forge from England. Tools made since 1780.
Just wanted to suggest... I know you're big on drip systems but I would love a video on hoses.... quick connect doodads & how to use them, how to cut and add a fitting to a hose so your soaker hose can be extended without wasting water close to the water spiggot, etc. I cannot find this info anywhere & my water spiggot is nowhere close to my garden so running hose is all I can do... and running a drip system off this isn't possible because I've lost so much pressure.
Good points! Definitely buy craftsman tools great warranty. I did feel like this video was incredibly long for what it was though good have gotten the same info in prob 3 mon instead of 9 otherwise great video!
I have that craftsman rubber hose. I have had It for a year and I have pulled It yanked It, kinked and un-kinked It (Which It Is easy to Un-Kink) and It still Is like new. Should last years unlike the regular cheap junk hoses.
Also worth mentioning for tools not frequently used, the Santa Rosa tool lending library will loan you them for free. Berkeley, Oakland and San Francisco also have tool lending libraries
Best hand pruners are made by Felco. I have used the highest quality ergonomic Felco pruners for 6 hours straight without any strain. Yes Craftsman are very good, If I had a choice of cheap, or quality. Quality would always best everything else, be it Felco, Craftsman, Fiskers, or Dramm. Any other brands are just a waste of money.
lol, I guess we know who's actually the childish one now.
Methinks I have awakened the self-righteous!--again.
It takes real talent to turn light humor into a tit-4-tat, smh.lol
Wow @ the patience I mustered to respond to such a self-destructive soul. I guess I AM building up a little tolerance after all :D --Ooops, I spoke too soon. I'm bored with you already. (&Besides, I'm sure John doesn't mean want his comment section used for your negativity).
I just picked up an all metal shovel. It was handmade in the USA. The head of the shovel is a really thick steel, something like 1/8" or 3/16" thick and the handle is made of round steel tube. I bought it so that I can use it as a lever to pry out stubborn tree stumps! It was not cheap, $80
