mmmm that's my favorite kind of singing. Very real and soulful. I notice the jaw movements during the malisma. Does that help? I know it is not required - just wondering

@Smubbs The jaw movements is normal as long you don't do it exaggeratedly. It can helps you to move the notes fastly (it doesn't work anytime, but it's a good practice). It isn't required unless you feel more comfortable doing it while you're running some kind of vocal or melisma. Whitney moves her jaws while using vibrato. It depends exclusively to you. If it's pleasent and gives you best results, then it helps of course.

What the difference between Melismas and Legato?

@LoboAscuridad Melisma in music is the technique of changing the note (pitch) of a single syllable of text while it's being sung. The legato is to connect the successive notes, so there is no silence between them.
