So go for it inventors- how about a unicycle with a variable gearing assembly in which the rider controls it's function by engaging and disengaging the hub at will. Being a former unicycle rider I always wanted one that could go faster than my legs could. I know a 2to1 ratio wouldn't work, but 'learning' by actively controlling the hub with a cable to the hand might work wonders.

power is the product of current and voltage.. when i decrease the variable resistor in the circuit, not only does voltage increase on the motor, but current does as well.. since u are creating less resistance.. more flow.... thus more power. the electric motor's power is linear, plotted against an exponential gas engine's power.. the electric would have more power at lower rpm, but they would match at the "peak" if they were rated the same max power. electric motors do have a peak...
