  • I always do this but the ball always hits the net. What am i doing wrong?

  • @megsbieber I think that maybe your pushing it downwards, try to keep your hand up, and if its not that, then try to get more strength by using your legs to push foward. I hope this helps you(:

  • I prefer not leading with my elbow, there not enough time :P for me anyways

  • thanks for the great example....

  • my friend said tht u kinda wanna chape the ball wit ur hand. is tht true?

  • wow. this one's a little bit harder than the underhand serve...

  • THANK YOU! Very helpful... Maybe I'll be able to pass my serving test today lol.

  • I Will got to school and train this move. We Dream To Win

  • Thank-you for uploading! I will try this if we will have our volleyball practice at our school. Thank-you very much.

  • I think I'd be one of the best players in my school if it wasnt for serving...

  • It's easy for the instructor because he has a soft volleyball, my middle school has hard volleyballs and is much harder.

  • @rss97 right?! ours too, theres white (super hard) and red and white (hard with a bit of cushion,,, barely any though)

  • thank u so much :)

  • My friend is in the top 12 australians for voleyball under 15 or 16. i have never played serious or with atleast not all the rules this is a change and a half. FML

  • 12 people didn't make the volleyball team

  • @edwardschild88 I guess I have to dislike the video now ):

  • @edwardschild88 i dident but im really good (not meaning to brag)

  • It helped that u said 2 lead w/ ur elbow

  • you dont serve it with your heal unless your beggener but once you got this down ask your coach if you can try to serve with the palm of your hand cuz when you do its really effective strength wise and thats wat i do and when i do it it really does works

  • How can I lose the arc on my serve ?

  • Ur videos are a lOt of help!!:]thanks

  • My brother told me that when I first start out.. I should never practice by overhand serving.. I should underhand serve with my fist to strengthen my wrist. Is that true?

  • @Thehighschool8888 when you first start out it's usually reccommended that you start out underhand. but my coach says there is nothung wrong with starting out overhand, i know alot of people who do. just make sure to stretch your arms and wrists before you serve and you should be good. good luck(:

  • @27jbgirl thanks i can do it now and I could never get used to underhand.. i have a powerful upperhand and I started out upperhand.. :))

  • the only one thing that makes me nervous is when i serve, i serve powerful enough, but always too low...

  • I need to learn how to do an over hand serve because i have to go to a volleyball tournament at the end of March. :) I hope this video helps me with my serves.

  • I've been trying for months and I still can't serve properly, I really stink...

  • i wanna play volleyball and im 12

  • @vhou555 i play and im twelve. its good because by high school everyone is expirience so you will already be... i guesss.....

  • @Chococat1720 same here twelve and to make my team next year you have to be able to overhand serve- now i see my "experienced" bff taught me wrong......

  • @iluvcheezytacoz if shes on a team thats 12s im pretty sure they let you serve underhand. (i have no clue) but all i know is on a 13s they use a harder ball and you basically have to serve overhand. i can over hand serve now.

  • volley ball isn't that chill.

  • ii Lovee Volleyy Ball ii Havee Playedd Forr 5 Yearss

Thee Thinqq ii Needd Helpp Ohnn Ihss'z Servinqq ii Hopee Thiss Helps

  • NO! you keep your hand tight and closed! everysingle one of my coaches (10 OF THEM ) has said different. I broke my hand doing this. THANKS ALOT.

  • @WillefordGrl Uhh are you kidding me? Why would you serve with a clenched fist? First of all when you serve with a fist only god knows wehre the balls headed! With an open hand the ball wont go out of control. Maybe you were flicking your wrist?

  • Who is the tallest VOLLEYBALL player?

  • @TheLeilisa there was a player on a california school that was 7'2

  • omg this helped me sooo much! im sure to make the team this time!!! ahh thank you so much!

  • serving was the only reason i didnt make the team last year ):

this year, I'm gonna make it! Thanks Addison!

  • I have real easy ways to grow taller naturally.

    Watch my channel.

  • When our team was playing, a kid on my team served but it looks like he puched the ball.

  • I love volleyball although im getting better at overhand this will help alot more!!

  • im a varsity player in volleyball yet i cant do the spike when serving....so thanks

  • sweet!!! I don't coach but thinking of coaching smaller kids this year.....thanks volleyball is my life too.

  • i've never gotten best comment :(

  • Volleyball is my favorite sport & i lovee it. I'm really good..(only 13 years old) but i can onlyy serve underhand. thanks for the helpp tho ! I'm gonna try overhand now (:

  • volleyball is my life!

  • @taylorswiftrules21 coming from someone with a name taylorswift rules;;;;;

  • @anfhollisty coming from someone with a name anfhollisty;;;;;

  • I'll try this out for my tryouts because how I serve in my tryouts is that I hit it below my hand and I just hold the ball then just hit the ball with my below the hand right at the Large Vein : ) and I dont get it over the net.. LOL

  • How light is the ball...is it hard or hollow....does it hurt wen u hit it

    anyone could answer

  • @lenaidj Well, i wouldnt say hard or hallow, but its light weight and its not squishy but its sort of soft. it doesnt hurt when you hit it, only when its a power serve and you bump it, but other than spiking, ive gotten used to it and it doesnt hurt at all anymore. hope this helps.(:

  • I hate when go serf and everyone look at you, and is miss :D:D:D OMFG.

  • Now that it is my second year of volleyball, all I can do is overhand! I was just nervous but I now know that its just about fun. Thanks to all who helped xP

  • i'll try this during practice. I am rarely able to hit it over the net and then when I try hitting it with a powerful force, I end up hitting it in the wrong area of my hand and it gets me fustrated.

  • lead with ur elbow... il try it.

  • thanks i hope this helps me get the ball over!

  • cant u actually serve one for demo?... please??

  • He makes it look so easy. I can't seem to get it right. It never goes far enough. I just have to keep practicing I guess.

  • thx hopefully this works

  • Ahhh. So hard... I need to practice

  • @cookieluver159 you just have to develop arm strength! :)

  • wow this was very helpful thankyou

  • Omg thanks now I can overhand serve!!!!

  • I have volleyball tryouts tomorrow and I think your advice helped me thanks so much. =)

  • this is so much more helpful I watched this video a couple of times and I realized I wasn't leading w/my elbow and then I tried and fixed it. I felt like my serve was so much better than it was. Thanks so much. =)

  • Ugh! well im having a really hard time overhand serving a volleyball. i just can't seem to get it over the net . Can anyone help me please:]

  • he annoys me for some reason sorry

  • cool! :) thanks, i suck at serving hopfully this will help :))

  • Once again, you mention nothing about footwork which perplexes me. No one is going to improve under your coaching with these videos because they lack an explanation of the complete skill and focus on how well YOU can do it (Which is pretty poorly I must admit. Perhaps you yourself should watch some videos of real volleyball coaches teaching legitimate skills.

  • Yeah, grab that ball! ;D

Lol good video.. But can you have your fingerscurled up?

  • thumbs up if your school dont have a volleyball team for boys!

  • Our team made it in the semi finals in volleyball but some people on our team SUCK!! At serving (I'm not one of them btw :P) and when they serve, the ball ends up going BACKWARDS!! Ugh!! Sometimes I don't ask why...

  • I have volleyball prac tomorrow

  • u should demonstrate.lol.

  • i serve to hard. it sucks. and then when i don't it goes sooooo SLOW!!!

  • I do exactly this and my coaches say I have perfect form and I hit it as hard as I can but it still falls just barley short! Any suggestions??please help serving is all I need ti make the A team for my school!

  • @vballplyah

hey as long as its over the net and it makes a point. thats a bingo to me.

  • @hm0ngg1rl1 i agree but it dosnt go over the net...

  • ahhh! this helps so much i have high school tryouts in a month, and im so nervous

  • omg when i serve overhand, the ball goes streight not over the net >.<

  • i love serving :D

  • Um i wish you were my coach!

    That helps ALOTthanks!!!

  • wow...i use to get made funn of by my classmates back in elementary skool because i would serve like this...stupid p.e coach said "no, ure doing it wrong use ure fist!"

  • good but need more info

  • maybe youre just nervous

  • is a nice how to - i have try it and now i understand & can do this - thanks

  • lead with the ellbow.... i guess that explains why my attacks are soft, thx i am going to try this.

  • thank ya!

  • i serve underhand.....

i can do both serves......i love under hand serving though..

  • @4everhorserider i love underhand serving too... but this year in volleyball we have to overhand serve and its really hard but i finally got it

  • buloeh bual

  • at the serve your hand can be or open or closed ..

  • Open. Your coach is wrong. The video is right.

  • very good tip, thanks

  • My development coach says hand open my school coach says hand closed! What is going on??

  • @CATSGIRLSxoxo Open hand. I am a coach myself

  • @CATSGIRLSxoxo you can do both both but with your hand open you have more control

  • If it is hit w clenching fist, also can right? Ps, i'm a rookie x:

  • yup! you can do it w/both!

  • It works. You just need strength. I'm good at overhand and underhand. But from experience.. I'll tell you, underhand is much easier. Because when I overhand sometimes it doesn't go high enough because you have to be strong. lol

  • your an idiot

  • my couch said to never spred ur hand out

  • @MegaMorgan28 holy shit, you have a talking couch? Geez that must be nice....my chair talks sometimes too......dip shit..

  • @pimpmaster19702 THT IS 2 fUnNY lOl AHH

  • @MegaMorgan28 Lols, people make mistakes right?

  • why the hell would u want to punch the ball in a volleyball game? and if ur righthanded, u step with ur left foot and toss with ur left had, and its the opposite if ur left handed..... and if som of u r wonderin how i knoe that, i hav been playing volleyball for five or six years....

  • Is it ok if I step into my floater/overhand serve? I am right handed and I toss the ball in the air with my left hand. What I do is, I start off with my right foot, toss the ball with my left, and as I make contact with the ball with my right hand in my serve I step forward with my left foot. Is this is good?

  • omg that's what I do. I was like, how come everyone right handed puts their left foot forward??? so like none of these videos help since I don't put my left foot forward

  • LOL! Joke?

  • Well not really like a punch

  • during volleyball games, right b4 when we practice, i can always hit it perfectly overhand

then during the game, i always mess up! y?

  • You probably nervous. Relax and concentrate.

  • The most important factor when serving is to take your time and concentrate. You may be rushing it, so you may end up serving badly.

  • That sux I always mess up more during practice...try getting yourself to be more angry during the games that usually helps me...

  • @angelzlayde

I feel your pain. Same problems. I feel like kicking myself in the face.

    Pressure, probably?

  • @angelzlayde youre nervous, you overthink it just relax and try to think its practice

  • @angelzlayde yeah me too. i think its because im all stressed out and thinking about it. :) i feel your pain

  • @angelzlayde it's because of the pressure. It happens to me too.And what happens to me often is that, when I'm playing offical games, I don't hit the ball as hard as I do at practice and I think it's just becauseI wanna make sure it goes over the net :)

  • @angelzlayde nervs?

  • @angelzlayde haha bcause the world is cruel like that haha

  • @angelzlayde ever think uu might be nervous? just relax dont think of anyone else but uu and hitting the volleyball

  • @angelzlayde Its probably because your being put under pressure.

  • @angelzlayde OH MY GOSSSHHHH!!!!!!same here!!!!!!!!! ughhh!!!

  • @angelzlayde you probably cant serve under pressure

  • @angelzlayde its cause your nervous,

it happens to me as well

  • @angelzlayde Maybe it's because your nervous?

  • @angelzlayde Probably becuase of pressure

  • @angelzlayde me too

  • @angelzlayde OMG same!! :P

  • @angelzlayde I'm with you entirly. When I practice at home, my dad is always pressuring me and telling me, "No, like THIS." And trying to get me into a new technique and I get mad and the ball is out of my control.

  • @angelzlayde nerves and pressure

  • @angelzlayde try to relax your probaly under pressure when you do it

  • @angelzlayde stress

  • @angelzlayde thats becuz ur tensed or nervous during the game. so it messes up. that happens to me too.

  • ive played volleyball for several years and one thing you should no is DO NOT stress the elbow thing its optional and you dont NEED to do it unlesss u have really wacky serves. Also the toss is the most important thing!!!! Dont fist the ball because in high school and collage they dont let you do that and its uncontrolable and its BAD form

  • I do that sometimes but i also punch the ball it works

  • lol

  • You can't punch the ball during a game? Wtf?

  • Lol, I been playing volley ball for years, and I still can't believe that

  • this works but for me a closed fist is more accurate

  • for a fist serve, there are four aditional ways that your serve can go wrong/differently then aticipated. So, how is that more ACCURATE?

  • someone help me i have trouble overhand serving i followed all these steps and the ball goes not far or high over the net HELP ME

  • build up your upper-body strength .

start lifting weights & help your power .

  • ok what you have to do is amke sure you have a couple of feet for room when youserve. start by steping forward. then when u r at the line draw bak ur serving hand and it should feel like an elastic reaction with your arm. this is what has always helped me in my serve. always get behind it our barely over it too which should help.

  • you need some muscle , im 12 and i can hit the ball over the net to the wall (farther obv. cuz it hits high up on the wall) but thats when i dont controll or i completely smash it :D

  • well, you dont need muscle at all. the best server on my team is the tiniest person youll ever see!

and no muscles. you just need the right form!

  • y wanna keep ur hand at a 45 degree angle at all times so tht the ball sorta dives but jsut ur hand not ur whole arm

  • i had my try-outs and i couldnt ovehand serve the coach had to let me do the underhand. i was the only one who couldnt i hope this helps my over hand serve

  • you should already have your arm up when you toss the ball! xp

  • THANKKKS :)

  • Great Video

  • very gooooooooood teacher

  • OMGG! I could never serve overhand but thenI watched this vid & it helped A LOT! Gracias(:

  • thanks this should help me ace my tryouts

  • dang ur better than my coach.ive been tryin n tryin 2 get my over hand serve n i cant! im goin try the elbow thing tho. thx

  • When I first tried serving overhand the biggest problem I had was getting the footwork correct. After I got that right serving was no problem.

  • umm does it matter if you take a step...if so how many?!?!?!

  • yes you do have to take a step and only one!

  • you don't have to but the way he's advising you to I guess you should. there are many ways to overhand serve this is just the basics of one technique.

  • yes! to serve your supposesd to take at least one step for power, but i guess it doesnt rlly matter how many u take as long as u dont cross the line :)

  • hey could you guys look at my serving video and tell me if you think i'm doing it right? PLEASE (:

  • i can't find your serving video. :(

  • Eh. I served all the way through 7th grade with my fist, and I was MVP... not that that means much, lmao.

But, at least for me, hitting the ball in the middle with my fist gives me more power, and the ball goes higher and farther over the net.. I always kept my thumb on the side of my fist, though, so it wouldn't get in the way.

Lately, I've been practicing open hand serving, because I didn't want to get into an unbreakable habit. Anyone know any really good vids for open-hand serving?

  • Lol well ur not supposed to overhand serve a vollyball with ur fist it's against the rules!!!

  • why don't you show us?

  • thats exactly what i was saying ! one time during the video isnt enough.

  • I have a question... Is it true that when overhand serving the volleyball it doesn't matter how strong you are but like how well you have the technique? PLEASE TELL ME!! :)

  • its a matter of both.. see if you have agood technique serves which is good toss right position good footing then your serve will probley ok the stronger u are the garder you hit the ball for like to gta point bc the othe time will be mor likly shank the ball

  • i heard that if u are able to throw the ball over the net, u should be stron enough to get it over. it never hurts to get stronger anyways though

  • this helped sooo much! thanks!

  • wow this actually works i went 4rm da worst server in ma team 2 da best!

  • no. serving with your fist isn't affective. my coach doesn't let us do that. what i do is i keep my hand in a fist until it reaches the ball. at the very last second i open it. that way its more aerodynamic and you get more force. it works well.

  • ill have to try that! thats a good idea.
