  • u must be rich

  • Remember that it loses signal on 3g not 2g

  • you are a tool

  • @xXmadxXMDxX your a wee prick, I never complained in public though.

  • well im right handed soooo............ fuck you guys

  • My Iphone 4 is SHIT.....my 3gs was faster.......internet lags and looses reception all the time.....$1000 paper weight.....

  • do u think that is why apple held back the release of the white iphone 4

  • problem with antenna ... body interference with 3g ... turn off 3g... and it will work perfectly

  • All you have to do is hold it differently...-.-

  • iFail

  • Yaay! i got lucky and got the working ones :)

and sorry for you, cant apple swap iphones if that happens?

cuz you pay over a 1000$ for a bad antena, they should fix it! its not right! i feel bad for others :(

  • MAJOR major connectivity issues. bought my iphone4 3days ago. i have never had such bad signal in my entire life. maybe because i changed from o2 to t-mobile as well? t-mobile is so shit. but i dont know whether to blame my nearly all-time zero signal on t-mobile or iphone4!! i'll have spoken for maybe...3mins and it just loses connection!!! what a flipping joke!! HOW CAN U NOT HOLD A PHONE ON THE SIDES? where am i meant to hold it? on my flipping nose so i dont touch it?!

  • i have an iphone 4, alot of friends have iphone 4, i think this problem was only with the first batch. There is no issue

  • I got my iPhone 4 on 3 network and I haven't had any problems at all

  • i don't wanna piss anyone off but im gonna say it anyway.......... android ftw. :D

  • yeh me too

  • i dont have a problem with mine, the 'antenna gate' issue was too over hyped

  • @leojbx Hey I am considering buying an iPhone 4- I know this may be a stupid question but how bad actually is the antenna issue? Because I am right handed and I dont want to buy it and realise that I cant even use it for making calls :S

  • I am right handed and I am obviously going to hold my iPhone with my right hand. Does this effect the signal? I have only seen these type of videos with people holding the phone with their left hand. Can you try hold it the same way with your right hand and get back to me with feedback? I would much appreciate it. Thank you.

  • hey man, don't mind me asking something. Did apple say that the iOS 4.0.1 will fix the reception problem? just asking... please reply asap!!

  • @daggerX23 yes it does for anyone reading these comments the reception issues are fixed and as far as i know i havent came across any issues with my iphone4

  • the 3gs does that too.

  • who hold the fucking phone like that??

  • @MoDave whell beacaus its a touch screen you hold it in youre left hand and touch it with youre right

    there is youre answer

  • OMG GOD DUDE

THE PHONE IS GREAT WHO THE HELL HOLDS THE PHONE LIKE THAT IN THERE PALM FOR A LONG TIME

ITS STUPID I LOVE MY PHONE IF U DONT LIKE IT PEOPLE REURTRAN THE DAM

    PHONE SHIT MAKEING A SENCE

  • @lilwand1914 someone making a call maybe?

    loving the capital letters btw

    we really needed that

  • if you have the iphone bumper case or anyother decent case on the iphone, does it still affect the reception issue? i need to know because i really want to buy one of these but dont know if i should wait until they come out with a new design or something. but i want one quick!

  • if you have the iphone bumper case or anyother decent case on the iphone, does it still affect the reception issue? i need to know because i really want to buy one of these but dont know if i should wait until they come out with a new design or something. but i want one quick!

  • Is the white iphone 4 coming out todai?

  • Why should u have to put a bumper on a phone u just paid over $1000 for, freaken bullshit if u ask me I think everyone who owns one should return it , I know I would if I had one .

  • @wnatry69 you don't have to put a bumper on - put ANY case on. Everyone I know who has an iPhone has some sort of case on anyway.

  • @wnatry69 1000$? Are You Retarded? It Retails For 200$, Lol.

  • @Raklatif ur mum is a retarded whore, well here in australia we have to pay $1000 to buy an iphone 4 out outright, and we pay $0 upfront For the phone on a plan so.... shut ur pie hole morron hehehe LOL LOL LOL

  • Good job

  • apple mentioned a firmware update that will fix the problem for the iphone 4 and the previous 3gs. Even though the 3gs didn't have much reception problems as the iphone 4, however both models will be able to update their firmware fixing this issue. Apple said the codes written to display the bars are false, and will be fixed with the update. lets hope! I currently don't have problems with the iphone 4 reception, its because i never held a phone like that in my life. However it should be fixed

  • yes i know what the problem is, you see on the left side of the phone is where the antenna is, so if u hold it with ur left hand and hold it really tightly, then it will do that, if u hold it normally it wont happen, or if u hold it on the right side (which most people do) and its not a small bunch of people, everyone has that same problem, but if u buy a bumper, it protects the attena so it wont do that, y friend had that problem, bought a bumper, never happened again

  • @Nibzster The entire metal area(s) surrounding the Iphone are antennas, if you look closely you can see that they are separated by plastic or some sort of material, These 3 metal areas are all antennas, one is for GPS, one is 3G and one is WiFi, what I'm assuming is that when you touch the 3G antenna with your hand and another part of your skin connects to the GPS or WifI antenna a connection is made which somehow messes with the reception of the 3G network

  • (Continued ) if Apple hadn't overtaken Microsoft in value no one would have minded.

  • Hi I used to live in the Galowgate by Bills tool store Glasgow, loved it. I got married and moved to Chelsea London, after 10 years in London I still loved Glasgow. But now I really have moved up in the world, I have an IPhone 4, it's got better reception than it's predecessor the GS, as Jobs calls it and dose so much. The only hassle is people that couldn't get one keep bitching about the reception. It's better than the 3GS that in bad reception areas did the same and if Apple hadn't overtaken

  • At least we know why that fella left his phone in the pub before it was released. It was shit.

  • OMG PLEASE SPEAK ENGLISH. J/K I love Groundskeeper Willie in the Simpsons.

  • Ohhh joker!

  • ... You have the best fucking camera ! Please make a review on the phone so I can see the beautiful retina display as I would(kind of) in person

  • This is the only reason i didn't buy the iPhone 4.

  • theres a country full of these people?!

  • Apple: you're a lefty. Now, we hadn't thought of that

  • Whereabouts in Glasgow are you from?

  • @DJPassword

Simmer down, dude. I am not telling you to palm it in your right hand, I am saying that if you do it'll work. I too am not crazy about the fact that no one figured this out sooner. Maybe just plain unlucky that no left handed people were on the team that developed it to realize what would happen. One way or the other, it's a huge design flaw that if nothing else, will serve as a lesson for future generations. Advice: next time switch and buy an Android. I did. Never looked back.

  • Hey. Easily fixed!

The problem lies with the actual metal surrounding which is the "antenna". I have a case around mines which helps it! When i hold it in my hand with the case....No signal is lost"

    as easy as that!

  • I hold it in my left hand so that I can finger it with my right.

If you hold it in the other hand, will it seem like someone else is using your iphone ?

  • because the antennas are on the side, there were ur hand is.

  • thats because the metal around the iphone 4 is also used as a entena if you get me

  • i like your dialect, where are you from exactely?

  • OK with hindsight of iphone 4 issues, obviously the problem during WWDC demo was Steve not holding it properly. It was in the left hand check it out. Notice in both attempts the 3GS version picked up a channel so there was some available connections. Also the phone seemed to have already started to download but froze half way through which means antenna shorted. Also notice what the message says. Steve own words "Gezzz,,,,I don't like this!!!"

  • You'll get five bahs in anotha life, brotha.

  • Desmond ain't happy, brotha!

  • Apple: You're holding it wrong

  • I've had no problems. I even tried wetting my fingers. Sucks.

  • Total geek question: what camera were you using? The autofocus from the phone to your fingers at :16 was incredibly fast!

  • @rdolishny its the Panasonic SD60. Got a video up on my channel about it - a few test videos. Best camcorder ive had so far. Stunning.

  • it isnt just one batch that has this reception issue ... all iphone 4's have this stupid issue .... i waited in line for 4 hours and i was nearly dieing outside the o2 shop in glasgow , it was a waste of time because know i need to get a bumper for my new fone :|

  • Just thought I'd tell you I'm in love with your accent! <3 Thanks for getting the problem out there. Hope they fix it in the iPhone FIVE-G, only another $499 in 2011! Thanks Apple! :D

  • Jesus, please tell me that you have noticed it's left handed people that are having issues. It's totally normal since they palm the phone on the antenna side. Palm it in your right hand and the issue will go away. It's a design flaw that wasn't found before because probably wasn't tested by any lefty.

  • I just tried this on my iphone. Mine seems fine.

  • Man, I love a scottish accent. Sorry, nothing to do with this video, but it's true! And this guy has a really nice voice XD

  • I feel like a bit of a jerk pointing this out, but you sound an awful lot like Craig Ferguson. To the point that I thought Craig Ferguson had actually made the video.

  • phone fiends with phone fiend problems. People starving and we occupy ourselves with this garbage? trivial

  • @gumpdy Fuck off.

  • this is why u don't by shitty apple products.

  • I don't think it's faulty batches. After initially trying it out in two locations with full bars, I was one who couldn't recreate the issue no matter how I grasped the phone. Out and about in London yesterday, I tried it in multiple locations - all had full bars initially. In some I could replicate it quickly and easily. In others, no matter how hard I tried it stayed full strength - same grip. It seems to be distance from the local cell tower that triggers it. Bad design it seems :(

  • How about everybody just gets a case for the iPhone 4 and problem solve it's that simple

  • This happened to me, I didn't notice it was specific to holding it that way, just noticed very poor reception at times, took it in and got a replacement which does the same thing... So it is only a small amount of phones doing this? Should I try and get another or maybe wait for a new shipment?

  • Ahhhh yep this happens to me too!! and im not going to lie, it is a bit annoying :(

  • Guy at the doctor's office: "Doctor, my arm hurts in 3 places."

Doctor: "Then don't go to those 3 places.

  • I agree man. This is very NOT Apple like! This issue will only happen on outside-antenna devices, which is why it never happened on 3Gs, Nexus 1 etc.. Here they put the antenna on the outside to Compensate for AT&T horrible reception, and in turn it backfired. This will now create more reception issues than the ones it was trying to solve.

What pisses me off: APPLE KNEW ABOUT THIS! HENCE THEY INTRODUCED THE BUMPERS TOGETHER WITH THE PHONE, RITE AWAY!! AND EVEN EXPLAINED WHY THE CRACK IS THERE

  • Steve Jobs: "Don't hold it that way."

  • @WebTigerX yet he holds it that way lol. #doublestandardFAIL

  • dude nice video......keep da good work up and by the way how much did you paid for that? i think with 50 pound a month you gana pay somthing like 900-1000pound at end of the contract(unless you bought it in cash)

  • @rascahuevos you need to stop sucking up. im pointing out facts. didnt EVER happen with my 3Gs nor does it happen with the Nexus one.

  • @theunits3

I just tried it! Do I need to load it up to show you and everyone else? all you folks are like parrots that repeat things they hear before you even test it on other phones.

    Makes you look like amateurs..

  • @rascahuevos one only has to look at the video responses to this video. Enjoy.

  • @rascahuevos enjoy your broken phone troll?

  • @rascahuevos Your comments are just not wanted, Units3 puts out really useful videos and he's good at it and you probably can't do it better so stop your bitching because you out numbered on this channel, now go find a use for your middle finger!

  • @rascahuevos

Dude, it is not a "phone thing". lol This doesn't happen on my 3GS before or after my iOS4 upgrade, didn't happen on my WinMobile phone or the one I had before that one. Just about everyone I know who has a iPhone 4 has mentioned this though. It DID happen on my first cell phone back in 96 where you I had to tilt it a certain way to get good reception. Then again it was a cheaply made used phone. Makes you think.

  • This was on Gizmodo. It was probably why Apple released their bumper cases.

  • I hold my Nexus One like that all the time, right-handed so I hold the phone in my left hand and tap away with my right, no reception issues like that. To drop 2 bars I have to wrap the phone in both hands so I can't see it.

  • @tarcus69 hmmmm, macrumors just posted a story saying the nexus one has the same issue with reception.

  • @theunits3 Yeah they would do. It doesn't. There were a few isolated reports of a specific 3G reception issue but it wasn't hand related and it only affected a small number of people in the US on a certain network. I can hold my phone sensibly without reception drop, if I hold it excessively tight with my fingers wrapped around it then reception drops a bar, but nothing like dropping 4 bars!

  • @theunits3 I fact I just tried it, 4 bars (out of 4) when on my table, pick it up, goes to 3 bars, wrap my hands around the bottom edge (where the antenna are), stays at 3 bars. I can't get it to go less than 3 bars unless I actually clasp the thing between my palms as if I was praying to it, and when I peek between my fingers it's got one bar.

  • @tarcus69 :(. I hope Apple come clean with this one then I guess. They need to sort it. Would be interesting to see if they resolve the issue in the upcoming white one

  • @theunits3 Have just uploaded a video of my Nexus One in a similar test, badly shot video but you get the idea. It's in my account, I tried attaching it to yours but I can't see it yet on this page.

  • @theunits3 Just seen that MacRumors article, talk about fanboyism! All phones will lose some signal if you pick it up but there's a whopping great big gulf between losing signal and data connectivity if you hold it normally, and still retaining signal and data connectivity if you wrap the phone up in your hands so much you can no longer see any part of the phone. I don't think it's just a signal strength indicator issue, as some youtube videos show data connectivity actually being lost.

  • steve jobs has done it again

he dont want you to hold his product to your ear

and get your "apple juice" all over its nice screen

he wants you to use the bluetooth

  • GO TO YOUR PHONE AND HOLD IT THE WAY YOU HOLD IT WHEN YOU CALL DO YOU HOLD IT LIKE THAT?? THEN GO HOLD IT WHEN YOUR USING IT NORMALLY DO YOU HOLD IT LIKE THAT?? I WENT NO PROBS WTF... its easy DONT HOLD IT TIGHT its fragile hold it lightly and gently SHIT!

  • Yup, this happened to me too when I was browsing the web

  • dude hell no don't make the genius bar open it up and fix the antenna u paid some good money for that device make them give u another one on the spot, preferably new !

  • cheaply made

  • yep I having the same issue just by placing your index finger and touching the two left antennas it down grades my signal significantly, i haven't seen it say "no service" yet though which is good I guess

  • Whos holds a phone like thats anyway and this isnt only the iphone if i cover up the antenna on my phone guess what it goes down if you want to cry about it so bad get a phone that has one of those pull out antenna's

  • It only happens on 3G Settings not on edge

  • Use the apple bumper and it solves the reception issue... like people stated before.

  • @Coryewing1 And he stated in his video that he made after this one lol

  • Very useful. Thanks! Looking forward to more vids!

  • y did you go on O2 if they are going to charge for data

  • @temaskell08 they had the best plans IMHO, they have the best customer service and I can use the friends/family discount (30% off).

  • theres also an issue with voice dialling on iOS4 running on a 3GS 32GB. It takes up to 5 seconds to process what you have said and respond - NOT a happy bunny here.

  • @yanik007 hmmmm interesting. seen a few videos on youtube and looked pretty genuine

  • Why only 16gb dude?

  • @tantanman2852 not everyones minted. but i got the 32gb after many weeks of hard work :L Plus im only 16 and no i dont get money of my family im not spoilt its my own money!

  • @GarryBacon I'm not saying he's 'minted' but why 16gb when he seems to really like his tech and seems to definitely want to use the imovie app with the 720p hd video it can shoot! 720p takes up a lot of room!

  • @tantanman2852 Honestky it's a very fair point and i agree with you personally I own over 20GB of music so anything lower is stupid owning but I just think at the end of day i'm going to be selling this next year when the 5th generation gets released so not only will I get more for money when selling but I have 'enough' room for now. I had 16gb iPhone 3GS and it wasn't zany good seem as you only really get 12gb because of all the preinstalled software. iPhone 4 it takes over 5gb. So you get 9gb

  • @Tantanman2852. Sorry I was thinking of a 14gb for some reason, I meant you on,y get 11gb which is very bad still?

  • It seems like it's only affecting 3G signal ... please deactivate Wi-Fi, and watch your signal type ... it just should go form 5 bars 3G to 5 bars 2G ... please verify :)

  • Sounds like all the phones are faulty rather than just a batch. The reason some people haven't been affected may be due to the moisture content of their hands or the way the phone is held.

Basically any moisture on your hand that contacts the bottom left of the phone will short the signal due to the antenna being external. It's a pretty big deal as there is not really a fix for this other than fitting the rubber bumpers which ruins the look of the phone.

  • i am having the same problem! WTF! i didnt even realise this. what a joke :|

  • All the phones are actually faulty it's not just a bad batch. Some people may just have very dry hands and are therefore unaffected.

Basically If you have sweat/moisture on your hands it will short out the signal due to the antenna being external. No fix for this problem other than buying the rubber bumpers to shield the antenna from your hands.

  • @scottdf reading a few articles now and its apparently down to iOS 4. Someone tried the same thing with the 3GS and its happening as well. Interesting

  • @theunits3 this is true, just tested my 3gs and it does loose signal. so its not really a hardware fault as who would hold their phone like that when talkin on it? i always u a case and im hold my iphone in my right hand so it dont bother me.

  • @theunits3 i have a 3GS (cos o2 had already solt out when i went for the iPone 4!! :@) and this isnt happening for me.

  • @theunits3 I'm running iOS4 on my 3GS and don't have that problem. I think it seems to be an iPhone 4 problem. Apple must be worried right now.

  • @theunits3

Can you try holding the top of the iPhone 4 where the two antennae meets too and see if there is any problem too?

    Thanks

  • How do you change the background of your Iphone?

  • I love your content and find it very helpful, but I have one small criticism. Your camera isn't lined up with that horizontal line on your table.

  • @spacewesterns :D. lol. Thanks for that, will get it aligned properly next time :P

  • use your other hand

  • hey guys how long did it take your iphone to activate

  • i mean you're not gonna be covering that particular area when making a phone call really so it shouldnt be much of a problem. as for facetime, it works on wifi so even if you are covering that area it still doesn't affect you

  • Guess you can't blame AT&T with this one!

  • thanks for the video :)

    And apple failed us again

  • Jon4lakers (Techno buffalo) doesn't have this problem on AT&T...

  • I read that some people with a 3GS also have this problem after installing i0S4. So, it should be a problem with iOS4, and not the phone itself. hopefully, there will be a software update soon!

hopefully, by the time it gets here in HK, all there issues will be solved :)

  • i blame those glasgow cell towers!

  • Mine has the same issue.

  • @maniak2pc yeah bumpers fixes it but not liking the idea of £25 to fix it :/

  • @theunits3 fix for £25 or you will keep having the same problem your choice

  • @MriTechTalk i'd rather wait for Apple to come out with a solution other than to buy something. Im sure their working on a press release or a fix for this as we speak. Can't see how they would get away with it.

  • Mine is working the same as yours:)

  • it is because you connect the two antennas with your palm.. no issue with the bumper though, but who is really holding his phone like that.

  • Can you do a HD camera test plz :)

  • I live in Canada so... I do have a problem... the problem is that the iPhone isn't even here!!!!

  • Got it a bit but not as bad as you

  • i just checked mines, it appears to be ok. I have a rubber backed case on mines aswell, everything is good so far. 16GB Black, from the glasgow apple store this morning.

  • no not yet cuz mine is on its way?!?!

  • well the outer metal band is the universal antennae for the phone for wifi and 3G

  • Yeah I am, I am going to take it to the Apple store a.s.a.p because I payed a lot of money for it.

  • it's a hardware issue. hold it with your right hand and you'll see it's only when it's held on the bottom left corner.

also get hold of a bumper case and you'll find you'll have no more problems.

  • Awwwh man, and i thought the whole silver bracket around it was a big antenna, in a weird way hopefully it is a hardware fault and you can get it fixed, good luck iGlas

  • its because of the antenas that are in the side of the phone , you cover it and :(

    p.s. test the speaker loudness:D

  • Seem to happening to alot of people! very strange.
