  • I wonder if it would be possible to run gran turismo 3 on the dreamcast :D

  • @Jerix11 If it was ported yes, if it was emulated no. The same could be said of Shenmue. It would have to be ported to PS2 to run because the PS2 can't emulate the Dreamcast anymore than the Dreamcast can emulate the PS2. The two machines are about the same in power so neither can emulate the other.

  • had bleemcast for gt2 but i lost it

gt2 didn't age well so it didn't really matter that much to me

  • lol now show GT3 vs Test drive le mans =D

  • @obscuresword

The developers of test drive le mans, Melbourne House, went on the develop for the ps2. So a better comparison would be their game on the ps2 vs le mans on the dreamcast. Nobody knew about Grand prix Challenge which had 22 cars on the road at 60fps, twice the framerate of le mans on DC and more than 3 times the polygon count.

very underrated programmers and video game. Also had specular mapping, the shininess you see on the roads, unlike le mans.

    Video : watch?v=nfbjNRy2uRY

  • @Tinhh and this for DC sweet

  • @Tinhh Not a good comparison because they didn't came in the same time. When the DC was alive, no PS2 racing games were able to challenge Le Mans.

  • i think this even looks better than the PS3 backwards compatibility =(

  • Best Dreamcast update for 2011. Gran Turismo - fully working, game and replay saves to VMU and wheel support. Unreal. The Bleemcast cdi is beautiful. You need this, not the generic retail packaged bleemcast, which although runs gt2 cannot save and texture pop in is often. The dedicated Bleemcast GT2 boot disk is perfect. Its out there in the DC forums.

  • @Retrogamer71 The retail Bleemcast disc for GT2 has saves and replays and VMU support and works with my Dreamcast wheel. But send me a link and I'll check out this new hack. I like to keep up on DC homebrews and hacks.

  • @kainkusanagi, hi, Its probably the retail code as a downloadable CDI. DCemu forum I think. anyway I bought the generic bleemcast in retail packaging - most ps1 games don't run that well. But the retail GT2 Bleemcast looks amazing at the higher resolution and VGA cable support. Rumble effects on the DC rumble pack are very good too. I'm looking forward to many hours on Gran Turismo 2. Sega GT is not a patch on it. I own the ferrari wheel for DC I hope it will be as good as f355 challenge.

  • better antianalising.. I think

  • Great video! It's actually four times the resolution btw. :-)

  • You found yourself a new suscriber, awesome reviews, it's nice that you're not a douche in your replies =)

  • this is my new favorite youtube channel.

  • can u explain "polygon tearing"

  • @PranksAreUs83 Polygon tearing is a type of perspective correction error that manifests itself as a visual gap between polygons. The original Playstation suffered from it more than any of the gaming machines of it's time. Polygons are sort of attached together to from 3D models for the objects and environments. When polygon tearing happens it looks like the the polygons get torn apart showing the background through the gap. It can happen briefly or more often depending on the game.

  • @kainkusanagi OH!!!! U MEAN LIKE WHEN ON THE ORIGINAL PS WHEN PLAYING GT2 U SOMETIMES SEE GAPS ON THE GROUND? IS THAT IT?

  • @PranksAreUs83 Yes, but it's in all Playstation games. The Saturn didn't have it as bad and the N64 didn't have the issue at all.

  • @kainkusanagi oh ok i get it thanks man. Love ur reviews. are you going to do any new ones soon?

  • @kainkusanagi even 2d side scrollers like mega man x4? i didnt notice any in those games

  • @kainkusanagi Ah, a lot of the games I play (Superman SOA, Morrowind, etc.) do that, and they're not that old. It still happens sometimes.

  • i got a bleem free from gamestop in 05' cause they couldn't find it in the system

  • RAPES MW2

  • nice goatee man

  • whats the poster behind you?

  • @trueshinchan I get that question a lot. It's a poster of a Sega Saturn game called Cotton 2. It's a side scrolling shooter, but instead of a space ship shooting aliens you play as a witch and shoot fantasy creatures. It's a great game.

  • @kainkusanagi That pixie at the top left caught my haha

  • Some important things to note: The Dreamcast is not a "128-bit" game system. A game system's bit-rating comes from the main cpu. Calling the Dreamcast "128-bit" is the same thing as calling the Turbo-Grafx 16 16-bit, which we all know is not true. Lastly, 640x480 is quadruple the resolution of 320x240. Otherwise, this is a charming video with great production!

  • @thepowerbase I disagree. The DC's CPU has a 128 bit vector graphics engine build into it. To me that makes it more of a 128bit system than the PS2. While it's true that the architecture of the DC CPU is 32bit and the PS2's is 64bit, at least the DC is partially 128bit. Of course bits stopped mattering after the Saturn, PSone, and N64. I do consider the TG-16 16bit. The CPU was 8bit, but the graphic's chip was 16bit and that's more important than the CPU when it comes to graphics. Thanks.

  • @kainkusanagi My Intel CPU has "only" 64 bits and it emulateS DC,(NullDC) Psx (pcsx), PS2,(pcsx2) Game Cube and Wii (Dolphin Emu) . Something fails with those "bits" stuff (architecture bus width ) .

  • @Andermetal1 Computers and consoles are cousins, but when you start comparing their hardware it's moot. The bit wars only mattered back in the day. Consoles like the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are far more complex then the bit depth of their mutli-core processors. The point of a gaming console is to be cheap to manufacture, easy to optimize, and closed. PCs are about choice, and openness, but that means programs can't be as efficient since they have to run on so many different configurations.

  • There is a special Bleem for each game? Bleem until I saw only one today, one that generally serves for a lot of different games, but never works perfectly, remember that with the same Bleem've seen several games being rotated. but it seems that only works perfect with Bleem right for every game in particular.

  • @TheFred128 Bleemcast is just for GT2, Tekken 3, and MGS. Bleem! for PC is for all games. Beta Bleemcast is a leaked unfinished version of the PC bleem! for Dreamcast that kinda works for many games but has a lot of glitches.

  • WHAT a dreamcast black, this beautiful mod, in my opinion should have a sega dreamcast launched in black, it relies much more charming, xbox 360 elite for example, and more beautiful than the normal xbox 360.

  • @TheFred128 Sega released an official black Dreamcast branded "Sega Sports" that was packed in with a couple 2K sports games. There was also a pink one for Sakura Wars in Japan and a blue one for Sonic's aniversary. They may have made other colors but those are the ones that I remember.

  • @kainkusanagi hum ... Then models are quite rare, never seen one of those models here in Brazil, all dreamcast should be black, because seeing your dreamcast saw that he was a black 10x more beautiful.

    ty for video XD

  • @kainkusanagi actually there is an official black dreamcast that is not the sega sports

  • @obscuresword I've never seen a USA black Dreamcast besides the Sega Sports model. I now there was a number of colors in Japan and there may have been a few in other parts of the world.

  • @kainkusanagi yeah it was a japanese model it is very rare

  • The wii has some ailising

  • Comment removed

  • they made a ps2 version of le mans and the dreamcast looks better!

  • do you know how many bits system is the ds

  • It's a ARM 32-bit RISC CPU. But bits doesn't mean what it used to. People still use very powerful 32bit computers.

  • @kainkusanagi yup because people ask all the time how many bits ps3 has i say 128 there like NO no way impossible! lol

  • now with bleamcast, ps1 games wont look like moving pictures

  • He's right, no laws were actually broken, bleem did nothing illegal, it would only be illegal if copies of both the game and the emulator were not legitimate.

I'm actually for Emulators and VMs as it shows what can be done on hardware to which software wasn't native to, which is what i find so interesting with computer hardware

  • Whats with the black dreamcast did it come in black, is it a dev kit?

  • It's the limited Sega Sport edition.

  • @kainkusanagi I have the same one!

  • What exactly does polygon tearing look like?

  • Playstation games have a few rendering problems due to the machines hardware. Polygon tearing appears as lines between polygons as if they are being torn slightly apart. They can be any color because they usual are the same color as the background.

Another common rendering issue is known as perspective correction errors. Textures warp as they near the virtual camera. It's very noticeable with racing games becuase of the speed of the game and the angle of the perspective.

  • @kainkusanagi I tend to notice this a LOT when emulating games on my PC

  • i Like thee beat on 3:37 to 4:05

  • it was stupid IMHO for Sony to put a stop to Bleem because Sony was as now making a loss on the hardware and would of sold more games as Dreamcast owners would & could buy & play Playstation titles, surely a good thing? Sony could not claim it was an anti piracy case as there was none, & bleem does not play Back-ups,

  • @paulspydar You are wrong buddy, Bleem sure in the hell runs backups. I bet my life on it lol.

  • @BFKAnthony817 by backups do you mean a burnt playstation or dreamcast iso on a 700mb cdr? if so then bleemcast does not act as a boot disk for running back ups, if you mean something else ? please provide details

  • @BFKAnthony817 to make myself clearer what I meant was that the official bleems that were released could not be used as boot discs to run various psx cdr`s, each bleemcast was meant for 1 particular game ie tekken or mgs etc,the bleems that you can download now that have psx games on them came later & have nothing to do with the official bleem co` & so were not a reason for the bann.I own an official bleem disk that def cant boot cdrs, & the incomplete leaked 1 that fails as a boot disk .

  • @paulspydar Yeah, I meant that the boot disc for GT2 can run a backup disc of GT2.

Btw, the Boot disc was cracked last Christmas. I been playing it perfectly every since, and both are burnt discs.

  • @BFKAnthony817 thats interesting I will see if I can get hold of an iso to burn and check it out..

  • damn sony! always has to bitch about how their games are being played

like the psp. i put CFW on my 2yr old psp slim about 2 weeks ago. i was gonna sell it until i finally decided to crack the battery myself and put CFW on it. now its got new life with tons of tools, plugins, emus, and total customization

  • Kain, do you have to chip your Dreamcast...

  • Not for bleem. It's a retail product and runs on all Mil-CD compatible Dreamcasts.

  • I mean for the "Beta" *Shit*

  • Not if your your Dreamcast is Mil-CD compatible.

  • Mil-CD?

  • Only the very newest Dreamcast can't play backups. Give it a try and see if it works, most Dreamcasts don't have any problems with backups if they are burned right.

  • Tried it, shite.

  • hey what is the song at 1:41

  • The Cardigans - My Favorite Game

It's the intro song from the game. You can find their music video here on youtube.

  • thanks man ;)

  • tee hee giggle giggle

  • i got bleemcast gt2 for free

  • i downloaded a copy of bleemcast and burnt it to work on dreamcast then i downloaded chrono cross and tried to get that to work, to no avail.

  • i also have 2 dreamcasts 1 is new in a box and 1 is the one im playing on ... i got a 360 which i dont play more than the Dreamcast and ps2 somewhere in the garage getting rotten ....

Dreamcast is the best console with the most Unique potential with amazing games and other capabilities which alot of us know about ;) ....

    DREAMCAST FTW!!!!!!!!!

  • The Dreamcast never got the recognition it deserved. Sega did everything right with the Dreamcast and gamers snubbed it for not having a Playstation logo on the front.

  • ye dude .. see the Dreamcast did have lots of fans when it was out and even when ps2 came out die hard fans didnt give a fuck about that shitty piece of shit ugly looking box .. but Sega needed money .. and Dreamcast's fans just werent enough ..... they needed more to keep the console alive .. alot of people chose ps2 cuzz of "SONY" logo and the DVD shit which i never gave a flying fuck about

  • Too bad Sega didn't stick it out even close to the end to unlock all that "unique" potential. The system died early for a reason. A handful of good games. Just like Saturn. The power and potential of console doesn't matter. Games matter. Sega didn't deliver, Sony did. Nintendo despite their troubles with the 64 and Cube never gave up. Sega gave up and stuck their fans with a dead console. TWICE! Not even counting the 32X. Dreamcast for the win? Update: SEGA LOST A LONG TIME AGO!!!!!

  • i have two dreamcasts they are my fucking god i love em soo much

  • Try it with the VGA adapter--it's even better!

  • god how much i love dreamcast lol

  • real good vid. thanks

  • I've never owner or played any Playstation console. I might get a PS3 slimline when it's released.

  • You do realize that the portion you're talking about was a comedy skit and I was intentionally playing poorly for the joke of my brother as a back seat driver.

Now with that said I'm not an expert at GT, it's never been a favorite of mine. I prefer games like Ridge Racer so while I've spent time learning the best way to play it I've never bothered to grind my way through GT. It's a matter of taste.

I never talked shit about it anyway.

  • thanks a lot for comparing bleemcast GT2 with td le mans. many gamers often think that the DC can´t do better than GT2 with bleem on it´s own. it´s sad to see so many people think that the dc was slightly better than the ps1 when it actually could compete with the ps2.

  • How is that not illegal? You would think that the video game industry would have been trying their hardest to get a law past to make that illegal. Still pretty cool though.

  • It would be unconstitutional to stop people from doing what they want with something they purchased. You are free to play a DVD in any DVD player, PC, Mac, Game System, put it in the microwave and melt it, or use it as a mirror, or frisbee, etc. The same goes for games. Emulation is perfectly legal so long as it doesn't infringe on copyrights or steal proprietary technology. If it was independently developed than it's protected and you are allowed to do as you wish with any game you buy.

  • i've never thought about it that way. but then again, you don't think that way because you don't see third party consuls being made. Anyway, i won't pretend like i know any thing about law.

  • Yes , that is true, the only problem there is the fact that bleem is distributing the emulator so that people would buy a dreamcast just to play the playstation games. at least, that was my assumption. I mean, I could almost imagine if bleem were to continue, sony would basically run out of business. Again, another presumption.

  • That, my friend, is the beauty of the free market. Competition breeds innovations.

Sony didn't make money from selling consoles, in fact they barely broke even on the PS2 and their are still losing money on every PS3 they sell.

Sony makes money on each game sold, even the games they don't make. Every game has a licenses fee that goes back to Sony. If bleem had gotten popular than Sony would have made more money not less.

  • I never thought about that one. Based on those premises, Sony was being a bit jumpy. They thought it might be colecovision all over again with the ability to play games from atari. Overall, I think sony was doing this because they are trying to control their market or something, but in reality, they are just plain jealous of their competitor.

  • btw this is a super interesting concept

  • lol extra bass at intro =p

  • Proper braking wins the race, Kain! lol

I had a chance to buy this a few weeks ago in Play N Trade. It definitely would have been a nice thing to add to my collection.

  • Wouldn't Bleemcast be illegal?

  • haha never mind nxt time ill watch the whole video before posting a comment.

  • Emulators aren't illegal if they don't steal anything and bleem didn't steal anything. Sony used legal fees to drive them out of business which IMO is despicable.

Back in the day both the Colecovision and the Intelevision had addons that let you play Atari 2600 games and today there are ways to run Windows on Macs.

You have the right to do anything you want with stuff you buy, that includes Playstation games. Sony just didn't like that you could play their games on hardware they didn't sell.

  • You friend took away your keys! :O

  • I think its Kain's brother actually :P

  • I've never had the chance to get my hands on a DC and try out bleemcast, but is it true that you could only play like three or four psx games with it ?

I heard such things about the emulator before.

    Great review by the way!

Just found it while browsing YT :)

  • There were three official Bleemcast! that played three games all together. There was also an official PC release that played most games. Then there's the Bleemcast! beta leak that plays many games but with glitches.

  • I see.. thanks for the information :)

  • I love your educational videos, teach me oh master!

  • lol, I'm no master, especially at Gran Turismo, maybe with arcade racers like Ridge Racer and Sega Rally, but even then I'm sure there are plenty who would pwn me in a race.

It's funny, even though I gave some background I consider this a review.

  • I mean what you teach in the review, i love listening

  • Great video again Kain! I actually saw Bleem in a Michaels (arts and crafts store). I had no idea what it was, and the box just confused me as to what it did. And Kain, this sounds like Sony incorporated a scorched earth policy with those suits.

  • Thanks. I'll tell the rest of the story in part three, but you're right Sony couldn't win any legal battles but bleem! couldn't afford the defense costs.

  • Thats insane, great series Kain ^^

I've wondered what Bleem! was like and now I know, thanks, lookinh forward to more :D

  • I heard of bleemcast before but honestly i didnt know all the details. Absolutely useless knowledge but fun none the less ;). A great conversational piece with mates.

  • Yeah it is, and if you have a Dreamcast they do add three more games to it's library, kinda.

The funny thing is Bleem does a better job of enhancing the games then the PS2.

  • Bleem!

If I remember correctly, it means "Best Little Emulator Ever Made" or something like that.

I can't wait to see the next episode. I didn't know there was three Bleem disks. This one and Metal Gear Solid was all I knew.

  • Not sure if that was a joke or not, but yeah that's what they said at the time.

  • Comment removed

  • that makes alot of sense.

  • a crime against GAMERS yeahhh.... stop eating funky cheesy puffs

  • Interestingly enough, I survived the 32/64-bit era with only an N64! The generation after that, however, I had to bury my fanboyism and get a PS2 along with my GameCube (that was the first time I ever bought a non-Nintendo system)!

  • oh bleem, you pirating dog

  • Actually bleem! didn't pirate anything, and they didn't break any laws either. To play GT2 wtih bleem! you had to have a legal copy of the game. Sony sued them and lost so much that bleem! won a ruling to stop the harassment.

  • haha well i'll be, shame on sony for having such a massive and prevalant loophole i guess :P

  • Well it doesn't have anything to do with a loop hole. It's your right to do what you want with anything you buy. If you want to put a PSone game in a Dreamcast, PC, or a freaking toaster it's you're right. Emulation is perfectly legal so long as you don't steal anything. There are emulators to run legal copies of Windows in other operating systems, but MS is happy for the sales. Sony should have been happy with the extra software sales too.

  • Well, that was interesting.

Oh Dreamcast, stop being so cool (freaking black DC is awesome)

  • It is not to different from emulating Playstation on PC, using something like ePSX emulator you can play original Playstation games but in higher resolution and better textures using your more powerful PC graphic card..............In fact using a USB adaptor to use a normal Playstation pad on my PC in combo with epsx emlator the games are better played on the PC.........

  • You can "find" many Playstation games emulated in Bleemcast and playable on the Dreamcast, of course they are unofficial if you know what I am saying.........................

  • Something tells me that Dream Cast games could have looked even better if it had not died out when it did. I mean dream cast games were comperable in graphics to PS2 games. But the PS2 had a much longer life and so people figured new ways to squeez every ounce of power out of it. It's the same as all consols. Look at the games that came out early on the NES and then look at the ones that came out late (but were not budget titles).

  • That's a very good point. The Dreamcast held its own graphically all the way to the end. I think the PS2 would probably have inched into the lead graphically, but if the Dreamcast had been supported for just as long with developers like Hideo Kojima releasing specialized games, we could have seen just as much come form the Dreamcast as the PS2.

Too bad Sega left the hardware business so early.

  • wow the black dreamcast is nice

  • Nice new intro.

  • It was major awesome for GT2 fans because it dose in fact look better on the Dreamcast. Ridge Racer? Really? To me that series doesn't even hold a candle to the Gran Turismo series. Cool video man.

  • It's all a matter of taste. If you're into car specs, tweeking, and simulation then you'll prefer games like Gran Turismo, Sega GT, and Forza. If you're like me and prefer arcade style racers then you'll like Sega Rally, Ridge Racer, Outrunn Coast 2 Coast, and Need for Speed.

  • whered you get the black dreamcast??????

  • that was pretty awesome.

  • lmao no driving for u XD but still a great vid as always

  • Great Video.

  • agreed

  • Very nice work as always:D

  • When is the next one coming out?

  • A couple weeks probably.

  • I was just playing GT2 on my HDTV (via my PS2) and it looked HORRIBLE. I mean, it was probably considered good at the time, but it hasn't held up well at all. It was pixelated like crazy. Still fun though, but I think I'll stick with Gran Turismo 4.

  • i LOLed at the keys part.

that was OG in my opinion

  • awesome video

  • I don't think Sony won any legal battles, but Bleem couldn't afford the legal fees. I thought that was the reason why they closed themselves as a company.

    Anyway, great episode Kain! =)

  • I didn't say they won anything, but they did sue them into bankruptcy because bleem! spent everything they had on defense. Sony forced them out of the industry with relentless law suits. Like I said I'll tell the whole story in part 3. I only mentioned it in this one as a prelude.

  • The PSP doesn't have a new edition to the series. (yet)

  • Not yet, but it's on it's way.

  • can't wait, very very very interesting and in depth review of the bleemcast...

very nice... I had this in mind for someday on Hardcorner...but that's very interesting

  • Hey man, glad you find it interesting. Bleem! is pretty cool, it's too bad they were forced out of the industry.

  • awesome stuff dude

  • Great episode, Kain. Keep it up.

This has probably already been asked and I've just missed it, but when is the next of the 3 episodes going to be uploaded? =]

Also, I like this new titles. How long did it take it you to create? :)

  • Thanks, I'll have the other two episodes recorded. They still need to be edited and I'll release them between 4 Games 4 Free vids.

The new titles didn't take all that long. Odly enough I had already modeled simple 3D consoles for a different project so I was able to through it together in one night.

  • Thanks Kev! :) andthanks for the snak peek as well. Keep it up! When I grow up I want to be you! LOL :P

  • MEGA DAMN IT!!!!!

  • yh new video loved it when will the next one be uploaded?

  • Just what I was asking for! Thanks

  • Kinda ironic the DC did a better job of emulating PS1 games than Mega Drive titles.

  • Are you talking about the Smash Pack? It's been awhile but I remember it seemed fine to me. I'll have to go back and check it out.

  • Yeah, Theres a big problem with the audio on a lot of games.

Then again even the recent one on the 360 and PS3 had audio problems too.

  • i dont think hes talking about the Sega smash pack, but other Genesis emulators that run on the DC

  • Could you possbly do a comparison of Bleamcast vs PS2 backwards compatibilty?

  • I might save that for the last bleemcast episode.

  • whats on the poster behind you??

  • Cotton 2 for the Sega Saturn.

  • Your stuff is ALWAYS good stuff. Keep 'em coming Kain.

  • Its th damn time for some new 2-bit gaming! :)

  • how was it not a crime? They games werent lisenced by the Dreamcast...if they were then that would be a different story but its like playing Megaman or Zelda on your PC. also I love how your friend is now in your videos he makes a great side kick and I always laugh at the two you together. Geat video cant wait to see the others!

  • It's not illegal because you have the right to do what every you want with anything you purchase. So if you buy a PC game you are allowed to run it in Windows, Linux, OSX, and on any hardware you want to spend the time to try to get it to work on.

The same goes for console emulation as well.

Bleem didn't steal any of Sony's technology. They engineered the emulator from scratch. Emulators are not against the law unless they steal a bios or copyright of some kind.

  • Bleem was developed complete legitimately and since you had to supply your own retail copy of the game they didn't have anything to do with Sony's licenses. It's all legal.

The courts threw out Sony's lawsuits, every one of them. Sony kept suing, knowing they would lose because they also knew the smaller Bleem company couldn't afford to keep defending itself.

Court fees cost Bleem too much and they went bankrupt. They never did anything wrong, but that didn't stop Sony from destroying them.

  • Actually it's his brother

  • yay 4th commenter! :D

  • "are these your keys?"
