We get about 200 out of 300 of our 4th graders in band every year. Our problem is retention. I wonder if this will work on our 7th/8th graders who have dropped band, to rejoin it again. Our main problem is our scheduling. It causes such conflicts that it's easier for students to drop than to stay.

I joined my middle school band in 6th grade and played the trumpet. Six years later I still play it. At the time I hated that my mom made me join. Now that I look back, I realized it was the best thing I had ever done in middle school.

Middle school band is not the only band that helps in education there is High School band which I will be going into next year.

thats a rock band and there is a bass guitar and drums and a drumset in a band;. Its much harder to follow a director that to just follow your own lead.

I think its great for the younger kids to be excited for the high school band i play french horn and mellophone for marching band but its great how kids understand how powerful music is and how important it is! stay with music i will help you in your future i will promise that! and going from a middle school band to a high school band is a lot different but amazing and one of the best experiences!! stick with it!

great idea for a video! only concern is that not all the instruments of a standard band were shown. I beleive it's fair to have the percussion, bsn, oboe, etc played for the students to pick unbiasedly.

I'm a flute girl! ;) Band is most definitely a great program because it just gives you a sense of pride, knowing you can do something others can't. But recently, they say that they're canceling band for elementary students, and I'm against that! Poor kids! :( Good video!
