That 94 Chargers team was like the worst team ever to make a superbowl. Rite up there with the 05 Seahawks, 00 Giants, 06, Bears, 85 Patriots, 02 Raiders, and dnt 4get the 08 Cardinals.
@EmperorPiff As a Giants fan, I have to admit that the 00 Giants were the worst team - actually. You wanna talk about a team that benefitted from an easy schedule? I believe the Giants were only 4-4 against teams over .500 (they were 12-4 on the season). The Eagles and Vikings were good teams that year but the Titans and Raiders were much better and the Ravens totally scraped both of them. My personal expectations were low for SBXXXV and it's a good thing they were.
Cowher's lowest moment as a coach by not having his guys focused. O'Donnell threw some gutless passes and wilted under the pressure in the end. With that said, I wish Neil never left for the Jets as the Kordell era, despite two AFC title games, was awful to watch.
@reillyhilda Yeah, at least Neil O'Donnell was decent. (Not a championship-caliber QB by any means, but decent.) Mike Tomczak was a good backup but nothing more. Kordell Stewart was a talented athlete, but his ego was too fragile to ever be a good QB. Kent Graham was just bad. Tommy Maddox was fun to watch in 2002, but that was it. Thank God for Ben Roethlisberger, the first legit franchise QB the Steelers have had since Terry Bradshaw.
@87shadowfox , Go seahawks, really???? 7-9, most pathetic record for a playoff berth ever in nfl history!!!!!! Yeah, go hawks??? STEELERS all the way!!! Write that down!!!
This was one of only two sporting events that have ever made me cry. The other was Game 7 of the 1992 NLCS, when Sid slid and the Pirates lost to the Braves. (The Pirates haven't been relevant since.)
The Steelers had no business losing this game. All the other playoff losses during the Bill Cowher era, painful as they were, were understandable because the Steelers had the inferior QB in them. This game was a flat-out choke.
Thankfully the Steelers have given me two reasons to celebrate since.
@invincibleironman3 well i wouldnt say the 94 chargers are anywhere near as good as the 2010 jets... i wouldnt be extremely disappointed if the steelers ended up losing, but i dont think itll happen
@DBR96A I'm right there with you. I was just coming off the heartbreak of the 1992 NLCS and thought the AFC championship game was just about the closest thing to a sure thing I had ever seen. When they lost this game, I personally didn't think I'd ever see one of my teams even make it to the championship round. Despite the loss in XXX, it was nice to see them make it over the hump.
I really wish the steelers won this game, as a 49ers fan It would of been so much sweeter if it was the steelers on the receiving end of the beat down the 49ers gave the chargers in the superbowl. Im surrounded by steeler fans and just the reminder of the 49ers beating them down would be that much greater.
wasnt neil odonnell the cowboys mvp in super bowl 30?

Ironically, Neil O' Donnel could have rushed it himself. He had plenty of time provided the play!

Better to lose here, then to go to the superbowl to get killed by the 49ers!

@igot1i Neil O'Donnell: proof that a good defense and a good running game guarantee nothing if the QB doesn't have what it takes.

@dopehousex3
LOL, it sure seemed like it, players actually took more illegal shit back in the day. Plus the shoulder pads were bigger back then.

@dopehousex3 Its because they didnt have our high tech gear like we do now. They had huge ass shoulder pads and other stuff like that.
