When I think about all the things Ian went through I want to cry. He made a few bad decisions and they went spiralling out of controll. I also feel so sorry that he felt he had to take his life. He was a truely great man and I wish I was alive when Joy Division were around. Damn my age... why am I 13???
I find it refreshing that at 13 your listening to bands like Joy Division and not a sheep like most your age. I was 13 when Ian took his life and it was a totally shock.
@fredintheshed1 Yeah, I have a real variation of music and it doesn't step anywhere near what most people my age listen to these days. I do feel that I am an example of an anachronism as I wish deeply that I could of been around in the time close to when Joy Division were still around. I am also really surprised at the small amount of people my age in my area who like them, as I live in Manchester.
The tragedy was that Joy division were just getting noticed and on the eve of a tour. There just wasn’t a real indie scene happening down south, punk was dieing out and we were a couple of years away from The Smiths. John Peel was prob the only one playing their songs on the radio. New Order are a great band but you just cant help wonder what they would have been with Ian’s emotion and energy. Trouble is at the time no one believed he really meant those lyrics :-(
@LightStijn what's not to like: the vocals, the music(though elements of the style can serve as good influences for latter musicians, such as The Drums), and the 'energy'.

@BassPr0digy Ian wasn't exactly weird. The problem is that he was looking at the not so bright side of life.

You could say the same for Morrissey, Jagger, Joe Cocker... they've just got that element of intrigue to their performance I guess.
