That engine is running good, but I saw how you put it back together though. I may try it myself since I have many of the tools needed for the job. I have a Briggs & Stratton engine which runs, but have lost power due to age, and most likely wear of the rings.
I am rebuilding one of these atm and this is my first rebuild as well gunna hone the cylinder fit new rings lapp the valves and hope and pray it works when I put it all back 2gether if it runs at all ill be happy LOL
you need to put a blade on it, never run those new briggs engines without a blade because the blade is the flywheel, those aluminium flywheels are not flywheels as such, more a cooling fan and the magnet to generate current. put a blade on there and it will run 85% better
i rebuilt one of my engines it worked great until it smashed the piston into the chamber and shattered it. Now putting the pistion in wrong now thats a dumb mistake
hey u know how u said " it moved like this when we 1st got it.." well u could have a very small bend in the crankshaft thats cause it to move really rough like it did in the end of the vid..
I've got the video, I tried to upload it yesterday, but my dad unplugged the internet from the computer, and the upload was stopped. I'll try uploading it again today.

You ain´t such a mechanic... 2 months to do one motor? Bwahahah I do two trash picked lawnmowers a day. It´s running a bit too lean, or a bit too rich since it sputters so much. Adjust the carb. Rebuilds are as easy as hell for these small motors.
Great work! Many of those new briggs engines run like that, because their carbs are set to run lean, and most of them don't have adjustment screws. I think this might be the problem, but everything sounds real good, awesome job, keep up the good work!
you should never start a briggs engine without a base plate or pully's hooked up because the flywheel is aluminum so it will shear the flywheel key

now that's a good tuned briggs and stratton

Carb needs to be Adjusted, once you do that it shouldnt surge like that.

im 14, i did my first b&g engine teardown and rebuilt when i was 12 ( ok ok, with a little help, but not much ) and it took me abouth 3 hours
TheEvanovitch 1 year ago
the only reason it runs rough is because briggs runs their newer motors real rich so they keep cool

Adjust your idle needle valve and your high speed needle valve if it has one that always helps

lol why would you rebuild it and not replace the rings????
bentboybbz 2 years ago
it might be running like that because there isn't enough fuel getting into the carb. I had the same problem.

Thanks. Yes, that must be why it's running rough, and it doesn't even have carburetor adjustment screws.
