This is wonderful and this method produces supreme "folk art" work and can probably be worked into total realism. Please do more of these. I think most of us in art love to see these. This is the type of thing that makes art fun and also produces top quality art that almost everyone likes.
when you do the blending do you use some kind of product to blend it or do you just clean your brush and smudge it around or.. lol i dont know, what do you do? nice picture btw =)
Thank you! When I'm blending there is just a little paint on the brush and I blend mostly while the painting itself is still wet. Rarely do I use any mediums or other products with the oils when I paint.
the color black in the hair is not working with the entire painting. The black completely overwhelms the portrait. It's unbalanced. Brown hair and smoother more colorful warm colors would have worked better.
I haven't tried oils in years and I forgot how well they can blend so easily. The shading is just lovely. I think I might have to drag my oils out again and get reacquainted with them again. Very inspiring and many good shading tips.

On this one I used titanium white, naples yellow, a little cerulean blue and burnt sienna
