RH just visited us in Washington, NC and it was my pleasure to do a drawing of him in action. He is a warm and truely a gem within a school of music that is, thanks to him passing on to the young musicians of our planet!
good jazz is as ageless as the great musicians that express it, it's just that good, it only gets as good as you can take it in. as good as the musicians can speak it.
This is so sick! I've been goin aroung pittsburgh hearing jazz as much as possible for the past few months, but I can never find roger humphries. Tony Depolis is my favorite bassist in pittsburgh, and howie alexander is amazing, but I really want to check out roger humphries. I would go to Cj's every thursday and even try my hand at playing (I play tenor sax) but I'm 18 and you have to be 30 to get in. I'm always the youngest person at any of the places I go. (Backstage bar, Rhythm house, etc)
That's great to hear, DrFBM. I gotta say, I never thought age would make any difference to Lou. If you ever speak to him, tell him Ned from the Bottle Shop says hello.
I used to work with Lou Stellute in CA and he used to play his sax at work. It was great! He was a great guy to work with, huge sense of humor, and the sax was marvelous.
Both Lou Stellute and Howie Alexander were sent with Roger Humphries by God to remind us that heaven is also on earth when we slow down and open our eyes and ears!!!!!!!!!
Howie's B3 patch is beautiful. Thank you so much for posting all of these videos... I'm all the way in WV at Moore's school and the only time I get to hear Pittsburgh jazz is Thursday nights at CJ's so this keeps me goin through the week.
True love from germany!!

Great job! Love it!
I played my very first improvisation (in 8th grade) on this tune, and I still love it. You guys really did it justice!

We go into CJ's all the time. you don't have to be 30 for roger's jam session. also, Tony Depolis is good but Dwayne Doliphin is where it's at.

Thanx Dr. FBM for this video
I was at this set yesterday.
What a beautiful eve for jazz too. The weather was wonderful (a little close)
Everyone enjoyed this music at Katz Plaza because it was our jazz...RH Factor.
Jazz doesn'r get any better than this in the 'Burgh. As beautiful as Jamie played that afternoon, we all want to know "what's up with the Hat"!
