Stunning showpiece on San Francisco. I've been there, and you capture it brilliantly. Excellent camera work. I'm only after buying a canon t3i, and was wondering on what slider and tripod to buy along with other accessories?
Hey buddy! I must say VERY crisp color for night time shooting, how did you get such a crisp black color with relatively low noise? I'm having difficutly in low light situations and Ive been learning along the way but I won't lie, im frustrated! What settings did you use for the low light shooting and any tips for Premiere Pro and/or after effects? Sorry for the questions I just figured to want the best you should learn from the best. Thank you!
You seem to get a huge depth of field, what aperture did you use, or what range of apertures? I'm guessing f/8 or lower, but you have great exposure still.
@missypoo2u: DSLRs need to be set up to achieve the result you want. The new entry level DSLRs though make it real simple. The awesome videos of Jameswalt1 and other youtubers inspired me to try it out myself for my own videos and I'm impressed how much affordable equipment can achieve nowadays.
@Sanctaz I do timelapses hooking it up to a laptop using the canon utility, just by making pictures every x seconds, and then compiling those into a movie clip. Also have a bigger resolution that way so you can shift around a little still.
Quality is awesome, but I see a lot of over exposed shots with tons of moire and aliasing later in the video. You can prevent that by shooting in 24 or 30p, with at F2.8 or higher...
@Nihilism13: Afaik, Aliasing/moire can't be avoided by adjusting the fps. Overexposure in videos is avoided by adjusting the aperture, but you may want to open up the aperture for a shallow depth of field. This is where ND filters come in handy.
@Nihilism13: Didn't mean to argue, just don't get why a higher frame rate should reduce aliasing/moire. Maybe you can enlighten me. And no, I didn't just read something. I have a Canon 600D and welcome any advice on how to reduce/prevent aliasing/moire.
hi jameswalt.... excellent video.... can i use this video for my VFX demo reel...i want to use it for my compositing demo reel.... i will mention it in credits.... if u agree... thanks....
@jameswalt1 hahaha sorry i couldn't help myself.. this video is just breathtaking!! i just bought my 550d and it should be arriving in the mail this week. your videos have inspired me, no joke.
@ReevoHD any tips for video? like how i could get a good focus from close objects to far? without the crisp sound of me turning the lens..and like auto focus?
Hey I watched this video when you uploaded it, it inspired me to make something simular with my 600d on a track dolly, would be great if you checked it out
@YoussefAbdelmohsen Not too much, but I do render at a ridiculously large file size and bit-rate, hence why my Pensacola video is a little less sharp - I had to keep it under a 2gb file size for the upload limit.
I trying to download this music but in the Audiomachine website they don't sell it. Where can do I get it? How many frames per minute did you set your camera. I have ordered an intervalometer after seeing your video.
@globoaviacao Audiomachine doesn't sell it's own music, you have to pirate it. I ripped it off YouTube. But this video only has the time lapse in the beginning, it looks like he was shooting in 60, at least at some parts.
@globoaviacao I downloaded the song from soulseek. As for the frames, I assume you're referring to the time lapse at the beginning - the intervalometer was set to take a shot every 5 seconds, 2 second exposures.
Oh and I am planning to buy me a Tokina 11-16mm lens today and is hoping that I'll get a really sharp copy. I heard that there are a bunch of copies that are bad so I'll test it and hopefully I'll get a good one. :)
@daxalain5 It's a fun lens, just try not to get wideangleitis. This is a condition I suffered from when I got mine - all of the sudden I lost the vision of shots that weren't wide angle! :) I'm actually serious.
Hi James! Quick questions about your time lapse part on this video.. First, how long did it take you to get that sunrise shot and second, how did you do the glide time lapse shot? Did you move it every 5-10 minutes while the camera is taking pictures? Thanks:)
@daxalain5 Sunrise took about 1hr-ish if I remember correctly. The panning shot was done in post. Because the shots were at 18megapixels I was able to crop and pan with out sacrificing quality for the 1080p video.
@jameswalt1 Oh I see so you did a pan shot! Did it take you another hour in doing it? Sorry I don't really get how you did it but it looks really cool tho! I am planning on doing a video for Reno - Tahoe soon. I'll show it to you when it's done :)
