  • it is not possible not to give a name to this pianist. as more i hear as more I am convinced I listen to one of the best musicians nowadays.

I suggest he had a russian teacher from the tradition of Neuhaus . There is the sensibility of a Gilels and the power of Richter. And what strikes me is that he is very european .

  • André, I put this interpretation with my favorites in piano! I love it! Hi from France,

    Regards,

    Sigrid

  • André Pavin?????

  • very nice.. indeed......

  • I find it strange that you choose to remain anonymous. You're a VERY good pianist.

  • i don't consider this tempo enjoyable of Mussorgsky :/

  • Finally not from Moscow but from St. Petersburg

  • Your music speaks, thats amazing. It seems that I understand you since you are talking to me through music, incredible

  • @terrygowork truecrypt is a revolution in pianism!! he's actually playing like a musician and not an employee of an institution!

...just like pianists before WW II did..

  • Buena, muy buena interpretación del pianista, y además como le vas haciendo para lo que son los cuadros, Promenade- Mussorgsky, Gnomus-Una especie de gnomo sin forma.

    The old castle-Castillos. Fantásico!

  • Lovely tempo----what is the date of this performance, and what is the pianist's full name?

  • I don't remember the date precisely, but it should be between 1993-1995.

    Performer is "unknown pianist" ;)

  • That obscure pianist is first-rate. Fame is a matter of chance rather than talent.

  • BRAVISSIMO!!!!

  • BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Outstanding interpretation!!

I love your sense of Drama and your lyricism!!!

  • ........

  • this is possibly the most beautiful intro ever in the history of music...

  • Didn't know Truescript was a pianist as well. We must all thank him for all of his recording treasures of old russian masters.

This is exemplary top notch playing, very vivid interpretation of the PIctures.

But to be a favorite of mine, I would have to be emotionally affected by the playing.

This interpretation doesn't have enough wild gusto, cossack ruthlessness, surprises, power and passion to make me cry, I prefer Richter's 1958 live concert recording in Sofia, Bulgaria.

  • this is the best interpertation of Pictues i have ever heard. you must have many years under your belt to deliver such an emotional and beautiful performance. i always come to this link when i need to hear this piece.

  • I love your interpretation. Also, I had the temerity to post a video response, of a 1923 Duo-Art recording of Prokofiev playing the Promenade and Castello movements. I may like yours better, but hopefully you and others may find Prokofiev's interpretation interesting.

  • Thank you for a great video!

It's much more than simply "interesting"!

  • career or not career, name or not name, your is first class playing. I prefer your version to those of many big names.

I'll continue to prefer to all the others here

(and among my cds) the Pletnev version. Yours is in the group of first 4-5, no doubt, near Richter, Yudina and these ones.

Five stars to you as a pianist, and five stars to your wonderful channel. Bravo!

  • Very Good !!!!!!!

    Bravo!!!!

  • I've passed a half-century mark... ;)

  • I didn't have neither "great career" nor "any career" ;) As I said, I'm one of those who didn't make it... No official recordings whatsoever - just several self-made or accidentally made recordings. Yes, I'd love to record 24 etudes! may be in a while... ;)

  • What do you MEAN not up to Kissin standard? This man is BETTER than Kissin! He is a GENIUS and I´ve been losing sleep over him! Does he really play this?(what a mystery. A mystery man. Please tell me he´s not a fraud. He would cause a SENSATION if he stepped out!)(he already IS famous I suppose. And testing us!) Wouldn´t it be funny if it WAS Kissin? And I proclaimed him to be better than himself!

  • Kissin is from Moscow and not from St. Petersburg like Modest.

  • "not up to 'Kissin'standards",has written thunder1909: maybe, not so sure. I find there is something so natural, so obvious in this version which is really wonderful et goes very far.

No doubt Truecrypt is a great hidden musician!

I would like so much to hear him to play Jean-sebastien.

  • I find your interpretation of these pictures to be very original, and full of character. While this being present, all of the necesary aspects of musicality are also present. You are truly talanted Truecrypt. These pictures are very difficult to execute both technically and musically. While the quality is not up to 'Kissin' or 'Richter' standards, it's definetly worth a listen.

  • this very personal and individual version of the Pictures has became immediately one of my favourites. Thank you for sharing it with us!

  • mussorgy had girl friends and died in the gutter of the booze overdoze,u all will die and nobody will ever remember ur name.his music will live as long as to the last slav or siply honest person on the planet.

  • why the fuk has one Russian got to play like another. .lol aren t they individuals. there culture does not make them one person just as mine doesn t mean I eat mash potato and pie just b4 i play . what is this generalisations SS pls. you nonsense babble

  • Dear Chad,You're foaming here.Have a Scotch and get back with us.

  • With every respect to my friend ЮРИ;I have no experience in Russia in this life, but I was there in between 1750-1880,and my eternal Russian heart isn't pounding for this.

To me you're expressing Russian music, not Russian heart. You've been in the West so long,

there's no suffering Beauty left in your play.

  • To put it lightly smithsherman:

    (1) few intelligent people believe in reincarnation and

    (2) I think that you are one of those people who, out of sheer jealousy, feel compelled to try to tear down what their superiors have built. If you are living in North America or Western Europe, there must be many psychiatrists available who can help you untwist your mind.

  • I just read your YT bio. In it you declare that you are a professional classical musician who loves music from the 17th-19th centuries. If you are a pianist, why don't you upload your own version of Pictures and we shall all judge if it is a version that is superior to this one by truecrypt.

  • because he is living in a delusin. many others who have priblems rely on music to get them through. he needs to stop the very selfish acts soon.

  • Dear Gerry,I'm very jealous of you and your intelligence.I'm living in Veliky Ustyug currently.I've never played a note of music and I'm currently the town trash-removal supervisor. You may make a donation by sending starched flowers to Mussorgsy's bereaved widow. Thanks,Smith

  • It is not necessary for smithsherman to proof he is capable to play "better", or even play an instrument, to have the right to comment on some ones playing. That kind of comments-behavior on youtube or elswhere is for little children: "can you do better???" smithsherman is right, this is NO russian interpretation at all, but... I like it... it is very personal... Chopin is also not always played "polish" and can sound very good.

  • What in your book are the characteristics of a "Russian interpretation"? Is it perhaps less "personal"?

  • Dear Erwin,In my experience with Russian culture,I can only say that I awoke to a perception of truth and beauty that is so intense,I can only describe it as "Suffering'

Of course it's far beyond words.Only Russian culture has this to such an extent.

  • Dear Smith, my questions were addressed to Marcel.

  • Dear Erwin,Sorry

  • Dear Marcel,I needed a kind Protector and here you are...not a second too soon!Thank you

  • Simply the best recording of the "Pictures" since Richter's live recording. Why? Because the delineation between the pedestrian observing the pictures and the pictures, in and of themselves, is startling!!! Awesome technique with big tone. Profound understanding of Russian music.
