@DanieImSuff A long time... many many hours. Like.. I could probably do it in like 5-7 hours, but the first time I made one it took me 15 hours total. Of course this isn't counting for like the drying time of the glue.
My grandfather was born 1897, so he still learnt the victorian style with cloth ribbon, instead of cord. more discrete and flat. the order of pinted pages is already automatic, for me.
@slaymyheart The Elmer's craft bond seems to have worked well. Of course, as irony would have it, not too long after finishing that one I found a specialty craft store that actually sells bookbinding glue >.<
I love your Series!! my book looks amazing!!! i would like to see how to make a look a little bigger :) ... thanks so much for taking the time to make the videos!!!
This is truly a great SERIES. Sir EoiyinHawthorn...I would like to see if you can recreate for a book of YOUR CREATION...a Book CLASP...out of leather, braided cord, or even more challenging...metal..(hint..sandpapered, polished, Aluminum pop can?? ) Hope to see you accept this challenge. lol..Great Video..keep em coming...I am definitelly passing the word on, to my elderly friends..whom are Professional Book Binders..around this 3rd rock from the sun..lol
I love this entire series of videos. I'm a bit of an amateur book binder... I do it as a hobby, anyway. I think your finished product looks great, and I absolutely love the step-by-step process shown in these videos.
Don't listen to internet-warriors who criticize your "deficient technique."
@3r1dan1 Not entirely sure who was bringing this into question, but I'm well aware that I'm not a real bookbinder, just someone who looked up how books were bound and improvised with what I had available to me, and then made some videos on it at the request of a friend.
@3r1dan1 Thank you for your attention to my comment. If as I indicated, I would recommend that you take some lessons in bookbinding, as I think has great agility and intelligence. The case is to start with a leather-covered binder is quite difficult. Go ahead, keep track of their progress. Excuse my English, which is very poor. Honestly.
@3r1dan1 Your definitely lost..I hear that your VILLAGE is missing there idiot. They are callling you back...3r1dan1 !! This EH..is a Bookbinder. Maybe not a PRO , yet..but as far as I can tell...he Binded a Book. Why don't you UNBIND your eyes.., 3r1dan1, If it looks like a Book , It must be a Book ..DUHH ??
@3r1dan1 I don't see your tutorial on book binding? So perhaps he is a modern person making something in a more practical sense. I thought people from "Your age" (as clearly you are not of the "youth") were internet deficient.
Absolutely wonderful videos. I can tell you are a dedicated and extremely talented craftsperson. What a wonderful and lost art. I've always been very fond of leather bound books and I can't wait to get started making my own. You are truly an inspiration! Thank you sooooo much! I'll be watching to see if you come out with anymore videos! oldriverroad
I really want to go make a book now... I know you said you got most, or all of your supplies from Hobby Lobby, did you get your leather there too? I'm just curious, because I can't remember seeing leather with a smooth side in craft stores, although I could be lacking observation skills, and just didn't see it.
@YuriMono I got the leather at the Hobby Lobby that I went to. It was in a section they had for leather crafts. I can't say for sure what yours has because, well, I don't know your particular Hobby Lobby.
@EoiyinHawthorn Another place to get some leather, is check out leather stores, that sell leather bags, leather jackets. I like to go to thrift stores, and discount stores..always looking for old leather jackets, or pants..I chop these up and use these...Sometimes these stores have sell out sales, and you can get really cheap leather ...Goat skin, Cow hide, Pig skin leather, Sheep skin, I have even found some alligator skin off a bag...Hope that helps.
Lol, I love the tone of your voice! "Congratulations! You're done (with this extremely long, frustrating, back aching, finger pricking, glue on all your clothes, staying up 'till 2am project)" ^^
