20 IS kind of young for anyone to be a police officer. Like another poster said, he wasn't even old enough to drink yet and some bigger idiot deemed him worthy enough to carry a live firearm?! I agree that you should be older than that to be a police officer. At that age you really don't have the maturity to be a police officer. I don't know who's to blame here, the officer or the people who hired him.
I have to disagree, I was hired as a police officer at age 19. Today at 44 I am a Sergeant with high level reponsibility including SWAT hostage and crisis negotiation and command of a County Team of investigators to vehicular homicide cases. Whomever said this cop was corrupt does not know what that means. He was not corrupt, he was irrational. His irrational thoughts and feelings of ineptitude after getting dumped put him over the edge. My sympathies to the community.
This guy should have gotten a job on the Madison Police department. The MPD in my opinion could have covered this up for him. I think they do a stellar job on covering things up.
My heart goes out to the victims and their families.
Does anyone know if the shooter was on anti-depression meds?
I have a friend who's been through a nasty divorce and her doctor gave her anti-depression meds, the drug seemed to change her personality and mood. She became violent, suicidal and unpredictable.
By the way, I agree that people who are 18-19 years old should NEVER be cops because they are not mature enough to handle the stress that goes with it.
@lisaloebfan77 Yeah also 18-19 year olds can't take the stress of war either and shouldn't be drafted into Army, I don't even think the draft is constitutional isn't that slavery of the worst kind?
You people obviously don't understand northern Wisconsin. It's NOT that populated, and NOT a lot of people racing to get jobs up there. What do you expect? I'm not really surprised there was a deputy so young up there.
WTF!? The guy wasn't even old enough to buy beer, and he's packin' heat and a badge?! Are you people nuts over there? How the hell can a 20-year old have the maturity, life experience, and patience to get into law enforcement? As if they don't have enough psychos slip into the ranks. At least OUR police chief was 40+ when he blew his wife's head apart...
It blows my mind that police/sheriff's depts allow 18-19 year olds to become cops. If he was 20 now that would put him around 18-19 yo at the time he took police exam and completed academy training which in most areas averages +/- 22 weeks. In MA, under 21, you can't even take police entrance exams. Not that age should be the only factor, but what about maturity level? He had to undergo extensive background check, psych evaluation, possibly an oral board & polygraph as well. How did he get in?
my dad is a cop here and I live here. I can't believe this happened...so ttjman can go fuck himself. He was a 20 year old fucked up kid. I've known the killer since i was little. I hate this...I just fucking hate this.

May the souls of the victims rest in peace.
"Here in WI each dept. has it's own policies. He was never required to take a psych evaluation."
And that's why people who never would get into the police here get their hands on weapons, given by the government.
Like any other massacre, no punishment is high enough.

I read that the gunner shot himself in the head 3 times! How the hell is that possible?

Probably clipped his head the first couple of times. He must have been in a ton of pain.
