The consistent charge of Italian cowardice is the result of effective British propaganda, which we Americans inherited and repeated. The fact is, Italy was woefully unprepared for WW2. It is unlikely that any army as equipped as the Italian army could have fared any better, fighting in the desert environment. When rough terrain limited mobility, the Italians did better. Just imagine the German army invading France in 1940 equipped with L3s and CR42s! France would have won!

A last thing about the so-called coward Italian soldiers :

Since their tanks were basically iron coffins, Italians tankers had some guts to fight tanks like the Matilda or the Sherman.

They had mostly shitty tanks, but they still performed well. So they were the exact opposite of cowards. Most of those who surrendered would have died for Italy on the spot, but wouldn't have given a flying fuck about Benito M.

I would still struggle to kill kids on the basis that an adult has killed our kids. Furthermore, if it is wrong to kill kids, it is wrong from either side. If I find it repulsing to crack someone's head, I will still find it repulsing after someone did it to a person I love. I would puke!

Besides, imagine yourself stading in the boots of a pilot or crew member of the U.S.A.F. or, better, the R.A.F. Imagine some of your friends and relatives have died of the bombings of London, Liverpool or Glasgow. I doubt you'd have any kind of pity for the people of the German or Japanese cities you'd be ordered to bomb.

Well, many of them, at least in the first years of the war, were ideologically prepared and had little to no remorse.

Maybe. After all, a chopper is just another flying machine with an engine. So basically, this sound detector could work too. Problem is that it can work only in good weather and, in my guess, to detect small numbers of airplanes. A too big formation, say, like 20 or 30 planes, would be too much ; like a server flooding. Sort of.

Not to mention the possible vulnerability of the system to the noises of the battlefield (tanks, gunfires, explosions, etc.)

It is almost total bullcrap and a myth perpetrated by the Allies during WW2 that the Italians were a push over. Operation Compass is the primary story with the Italian Army of 250,000 in North Africa nearly destroyed by a British force of 30,000. The thing that isn't mentioned is that the British FAR FAR outstripped the Italians in effective tanks early in the war. And this was a war of tanks not infantry..The British Matilda tank was impervious to nearly every Italian gun.

The "radar" is a sound gathering device that could make aircraft formations heard while still 5-10 minutes out, depending on weather conditions. Simple and effective but was outdated fast due to increasing plane speeds and altitudes.

Very interessting, hovewer in north africa italians proved their very bad amry. One example is operation compass 1941, 150000 italians and just 36000 brits, result are 3200 italians dead and 150000 captured. and 400 tanks (most very ligth). Brits only 500 dead.

Shooting down aircraft in 1941 wasn't like in the movies. As shown in this video it required dicipline, co-ordination and training. I guess Patton didn't stand a chance of shooting down that HE111 bomber with his ivory grip 45 in the movie.

Mussolini non aveva scelta. Alleandosi con Hitler ha evitato una guerra tra Germania e Italia. I morti Italiani sono stati circa 300,000. I Tedeschi morti circa 5,000,000. Ti scordi del fatto che Hitler odiava a morte gli italiani. Guarda le relazioni che aveva con Mussolini, nei primi anni 30 non erano molto definite. Con Hitler l'Italia non avrebbe avuto un trattamento simile a quello che la Spagna ha avuto.

non so cosa pensava Hitler degli Italiani, non posso pronunciarmi su questo, ma so cosa pensava Rommel e tanti altri tedeschi; cioè che erano degli ottimi combattenti, male equipaggiati, e comandati da incompetenti e questo rispecchia anche l'Italia di oggi, un paese senza meritocrazia.

Infatti le poche battaglie che gli Italiani hanno vinto e quando erano battaglie coordinate dai tedeschi, vedi Tobruk la più importante.
