Well, indeed it is a muslim city despite the vast majorityof its inhabitants being non-muslims. It is a muslim state which protects the rights of non-muslims to the max which is an achievement to be proud of by everyone . I'm glad that Penang has such a diverse demographic, i wonder where exactly is the problem of openly stating the truth, that it is at once a peaceful, multi religious society that is under the banner of Islam?

Dear Chrischwoei. I agree that Islam is being politicized here in M'sia. I was in Sumatra, Indonesia and I saw Christian and Chinese cemeteries ard mosques. Nobody complains.

While BN lauds "Islam Hadhari" (Tolerance in Islam), they let UMNO scream about "ketuanan." Very hypocritical.

I understand abt loud announcements, but Chris, that's called Azan, meaning "call to prayer." Anywhere you go, it's the same. First prayer's at arnd 5.30am. Whether it's too loud, I've no comments. Cheers. :)

but metalbeetle, islam is second large religion in uk, but i never heard about that loud announcements in uk since im in uk 5 years. becoz the muslim in uk know how to respect others. saudi have Azan becoz they need to pass to every muslim in widest desert region and almost all the citizen is muslim. but y not in uk? becoz uk muslim know they are not only religion in uk and know how to respect others.

it's really not fare for u to say that cause i'm a real muslim i pray right on time n if i have leasure time i would go to any mosque that i see...it's not that i wanna be proud of what i did..people usually misunderstood when i said to them that i pray right on time.. but i wanna say that i didn't pray right on time before eventhoough i pray five times per day but sometimes i would pray a little bit late...
