I couldn't find a Led Zeppelin song that is all about being a guitar man or something like "I am a guitar player, I love what I do". Besides, there's a chance that the Bread song is actually about JP coz both Bread & LZ are 70s bands.

The early Zep songs may have been "plagiarized" but even Ludwig or Wolfgang did that too. Songs like Stairway To Heaven and Kashmir and at least 30 more Zep songs sounds like absolute original creations and not just "blues" ripoffs at all. Sloppy or not... Jimmy Page is a composer/creator first and a guitarist/rock god second.

Lenny Breau ..Now is total masterpiece!!! Absolutly nobody can play like that -- even today! Also Mick Goodrick is pretty cool too. Jimmy Page is cool but he is not in same catagory.
I checked them out. They are very good. But they're more jazz/classical. It's almost like apples and oranges. Although page was influenced(white summer-with a nod to Bouree,bron yr aur), it was never his dedication. What made him great was he was never trained, so i don't think he was constrained by any rules. He was able to improvise more and bring jazz or classical or even funk and psycadelic into the same song, while bridging the gap as to appear seamless, at least to the untrained ear.
Yes I agree, Page was perfect for Led Zepplin and very gifted and yes rock, classical and jazz are all very different arts. So it hard to compare. I am big fan of John Paul Jones too. Actually page claimed to play 8 hours a day at one point. He was quite virtuosic at his peak. I saw him 2 times 75 and 77. 75 was much better. I never really saw footage of him playing like he did in 75, he was dancing all around and going nuts.

Page could be the worst guitarist of all time, and he would still be my favorite. Led Zeppelin was about feeling, emotions, about transporting you to another place, taking you to another realm, crossing you to where you've never been before.
Led Zeppelin is so great that a lot of fans do not care about what other nonfans say. Led Zeppelin's music and presence and extra something is stronger than anything that nonfans say. A lot of guitarists supposedly play better guitar than Jimmy Page but not a lot of them play guitar parts that is relevant to the song. And not a lot of them can even write memorable songs. Sure, a lot of people are not as sloppy playing the guitar but how many of them have written songs that is becoming immortal?

I rented the video "The Song Remains The Same". I went to that concert. After watching a few minutes of the video, I thought "what the fuck were we thinking, this is trash" It would be fine if all this pussy-whipped 70's crap would just go away. I feel that true guitar greatness comes from how you play, not what you play.
A good example is the video of the kid playing stairway to heaven, and its completely uninteresting, because he has no emotion behind it.
and thats one of the reasons i like jimmy page, because of who passionately he plays guitar.
Anyone can play Led Zeppelin, but no one can play LIKE Led Zeppelin plays.
