  • Instead of arguing over what's punk, what not punk, who's punk, who's more punk...who's not punk......just appreciate a damn fine song from a wickedly, awesome damn fine band. Such awesome lyrics that are still so appropriate for today. But....... from what I've always known...... even the DKs had arguments over money towards the end. So it just shows that we all have a bit of hypocrisy in us at times. Just shut up and dance everybody!!

Nope, they played it this once.

  • This song should be retitled "The American Idol Song".

  • INTERNET FIGHT! PLACE YER BETS

  • remember everyone: PUNK IS ABOUT BEING YOURSELF AND NOT GIVING A FUCK ABOUT WHAT ANYONE SES OR THINKS ABOUT YOU

  • @bradypem Punk literally means dirty, crappy, or something in cruddy condition. Punk is about accepting where you're at but wanting to help those less fortunate, it's about accepting new ideas but destroying old ones, but it's mostly about making a point and having enough conviction to stand up for what you believe. Punk ROCK was about making a point it wasn't about the sound, it wasn't about the money, and it certainly wasn't about sitting around online and being complacent with everything =]

  • @bradypem "PUNK" is a word designed to sell you fashion and music. Just be yourself.

  • @benebrius So when the first "punks" emerged in the late 60s - early 70s all they had on their minds was selling fashion and music? I think its sad that you would assume that they became what they were with bad intentions. Maybe it is just a popularised phrase used to sell hot topic clothes to "emos" and "goths" now, but who's to say they aren't just being themselves? Everybody is being themselves, some sad, negative people just dont seem to be able to tolerate it. Hate the game, not the player

  • @SPV724 Some were true to their cause...the rest just follow blindly--as is human nature. As I said, "punk" is just a word used to describe a product.

  • @benebrius You don't seem to get what I'm saying... Everybody is an individual, and everybody has the right do what they want with their lives. The masses of punks in the 70s, despite their intentions (whatever they may have been), were doing what they wanted, not what anybody else wanted. You're correct in saying humans have a tendency to follow others, but punk taught people to think for themselves. Nowadays I SUPPOSE the word "punk" could be used to "sell a product", but...

  • @bradypem Punk is also about enlightment, about standing up agains the system, about thinking for yourself and creating your own opinions about everything.

  • @bradypem well thats have of it but its about rebellion : both societal and political

  • Fuck people who say fuck any genre of music.

    OPEN MINDS YOU STUPID FUCKS!

  • @ironman276

Open your mind to pop-punk, open your mind to corporate dictatorship... no thanks, fucker.

  • it was a different time then...

  • No one today has balls like they did.

  • they did what they wanted to , gotta admire that.

  • East Bay Ray ripped it.

  • @millionmikeman east bay ray's solo probably went on for too long as an inside joke. for more information, read the booklet that comes with the album. overextended guitar solo

  • Love that they made sure to get their pictures taken with those ironic shirts, seems to fit Biafra very well.

But really, Punk isn't "unaccepted" anymore, and Metal still playing it's role, so why feel the need to pretend it is? Punk has lost it's idea, and it's value, it's merely a 3-4 chord progression formula these days, if you're a band you should go like "we're not a rap band we're a punk band." I don't think I'm cool enough for Metal tho.

  • @ZachsGayCat Punk hasn't lost it's idea or it's value. If you think that's what it's like now, you're listening to the wrong punk.

  • @theravendemon Dead Kennedys is the wrong punk, I've seen some pussy pop punk bands that hold their own about their music better than the Dead Kennedys ever did.

  • @ZachsGayCat

"Dead Kennedys is the wrong punk," lol. You clearly ARE listening to the wrong punk.

  • @ZachsGayCat DK is the definition of Punk, kid. For example, This song. Look it up in wiki to see what it is about. I disagree with their politics, but I get what they are saying, and at least Jello tried to stand up for what he believed in. They are leftist, but they even criticize some leftists. I love how they make fun of mainstream music. I still like mainstream stuff too, but usually it is after it is not poplular anymore. Like I now listen to 80's rock.

  • @CocacolaCowboy1919

Yeah whatever man. How original. What "Punk" is definitely turned to what you think is good music. I don't care what you listen to. >___>

  • @ZachsGayCat What does "What "Punk" is definitely turned to what you think is good music" mean? Turned to? I am not sure if you say I am not punk but I am not claiming to be. But seriously your comment about DK being the "Wrong Punk" makes no sense since they were one of the Originals. Not Green Day or Offspring or whatever Crap you call punk.

  • @CocacolaCowboy1919

God. I don't even like Green Day. I just think DK is the biggest living hypocrisy in Punk culture, from the beginning, till their end. That is all. Do you disagree? Good. I don't care. Stop talking to me. Now please go scale every music you find interesting against how much of a faggot you think Justin Bieber is.

  • @CocacolaCowboy1919 Although DK was split apart over money. Totally Punk

  • @DeadbrainLives lol true. but it still is good "punk" music

  • @ZachsGayCat You very clearly have no fucking clue what you are talking about. Fair play on the display of ignorance! Cheers!

  • @pathammond

Yeah? And you're a stupid fucking asshole. I bet not everyone thinks you are, but there might be a vast majority of people who do if they give a shit about your existence that is, see, I can also judge who you are solely because I disagree with you! That's what Punk is about man, wouldn't it be boring if everyone just thought the same?

  • @ZachsGayCat Yeah, i'm glad you get that you have no fucking clue. And no it wouldn't be boring if everyone thought the same, because we wouldn't be aware of it you dumb fuck.

  • Listen to the part at 4:40 with the "dumb" voice singing along at the clapping part once Jello asks everyone to join in. "Is my brain small enough". Hilarious.

Greatest punk band ever in my opinion.

  • three douchebag hipsters like the term "new wave"

  • @Auquis division wasn't jellos thing, stop tainting his image

  • i used to think that pic with the sweaters was funny but it was only foreshadowing what east bay ray and klaus would become

  • The last great punk song. What has happened now.

  • best troll ever is best

  • it's "we gotta prove we're adults now", not "a group for adults", that is beyond the point - which i guess was, to kiss the boot of big record company heads sitting in front of them in the audience

  • Can i have one of those shirts? i want to wear it to school!! haha great song

  • legend

  • solo=fukin epic

  • Awesome!!! This is a straight up FUCK YOU to the music industry and i love it.

  • Genius. Pure Genius.

  • I love this stunt so much because DK were such a good band, they actually made New Wave music enjoyable, and East Bay Ray pulled out one sick guitar solo! That's not something you see too often in punk bands, I mean, the way it is now, punk guitarists usually just don't play solos because they CAN'T. Not so with Dead Kennedys, all very fine instrumentalists.

  • i want to go to wack tomorrow with that self made s =$ shirt and a dead kennedys on the back with a black pen or something like that imagine everyones wearing black and i pop out with a white shirt and the knowledge onl i have that band shirt this is rock and roll i miss

  • hahah east bay f-ing shredded that solo

  • i fear the bigwig dollar chasers may have won

  • "...Is my Cock big enough, is my brain small enough for you to make me a Star,..."

  • HAhahahahahaha!

  • hey, at the begginnig what jelo says is: "we've gotta prove we're adults now"

  • Dedicated to the Jonas Brothers.

  • @LesPaul2006 and many more unfortunately

  • @LesPaul2006 actually i heard there not famous anymore cause they wanted to do some harder stuff, but that could just be a roumer. so yea i also dedicate this to greenday's latest album

  • @metalgrungefan123 ...roumer? jesus christ

  • @Monkeyboy92037 spelling was never my strong point

  • is my cock big enough,is my brain small enough?????

  • eat my shit..lol and thats how i feel so fuk it!!

  • fuck. they are amazing. i wish there were bands as sarcastic and clever as this now, maybe there are... but this is just epic!!!! i officially love the dead kennedys totally standing up for what they believe in... real music! this song still fits in with today's music industry, which sucks a bit i guess cos it means a lot of people still have no taste :/ they only want a nice image

  • @PureInsolence90HQ its not about image or taste, "ill make my music boring ,ill play my music slow, i aint no artist im a business man, no ideas of my own" thats what "music" has been and is and forever will be

  • @fuer321 ah man. i really wish i could say you were wrong :(

  • @PureInsolence90HQ me to. i really wish i could buddy, but, even back when these guys were making music there was shitty capitalists in music and the media, but the numbers are far greater now sadly.

  • @fuer321 ah man. talking you's depressed me beyond belief :P i wish music could find it's way out of this slump where you have to be fit, talentless and thick to sell records... >:(

  • @PureInsolence90HQ sorry man, ive heard people say i have kinda bleak realist view on the media, i find myself positive and hopeful and optimistic, but i guess thats just me

  • @fuer321 well you're truthful :L i'll give you that but i guess the fact is not many people want to hear the truth, that music has just gone down the crapper

  • /the solo kills in this song, East Bay Ray might be a sellout piece of shit, but fuck he could play the guitar

  • This song is more relevant today than it was in 1980.

  • Holiday in Cambodia

    MTV Get Off the Air

    Pull My Strings

    The Dead Kennedys' greatest songs.

  • to you they are

  • Obviously.

  • @DJxLoomis obviously not the greatest just ur favorite

  • @piefaceheadman OBVIOUSLY.

  • @DJxLoomis then there not the greatest songs tugg lick ur obviously a retard OBVIOUSLY ye obviously

  • @piefaceheadman Obvious troll is obvious.

  • "Boz Scaggs was seen in the audience pulling his hair out" This guy, this fucking PATRIOT, Jello Biafra has neither flinched from responsibility nor EVER sold out, unlike his former band "mates". He's still there today, needling the government and giving a shit. America is fortunate to have this guy, but stupid enough to ignore him. Meanwhile the UK music scene consists of spineless corporate brain dead turds with no morals or ethics whatsoever. Gimme the early 80's anyday.

  • Except without Ronald Reagen and Margret Thatcher.

  • This song is a response to the payola scandal of the 70's. Pretty much right up JB's alley to rail against.

  • Comment removed

  • i thought it was about the bands who had turned their backs on their punk roots in order to go mainstream and get airplay

    gotta love jello

  • who me?

  • @xXJacobBuckXx

figure that out all on your own did ya?

  • \the disney assholes should listen to this.

  • give me a toot, ill sell you my soul..

  • @catonswg when i hear this song i think of nickleback

  • wow was this really 30 years ago......

  • these people Changed my life eversince so be nice, eh? watch my band with the tag MIZMO BULACAN BAND

  • are these guys the only band to have stayed true to themselves or more to the point their followers? STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF!!!! YOULL BE A HAPPY FUCKER.FUKEMALL

  • Dead Kennedys are the best fucking punk band ever! Period!

  • What about Minor Threat?

  • minor threat rock, they were in the same group of skate punk bands in the early 80's, along with Jody Foster's army, the circle jerks and the misfits.

  • I was hoping that there would be some video footage of this song, but at least there's a signpost for this classic. There are a lot of bands who can pull out good live performances, but there aren't too many that can do an in-your-face improvisation like this, against the grain of the group hosting the show. Gold.

  • thats the intro to california uber alles?

  • @devon544 NO it Is California Uber allies

  • @MyNameIsAndrew1000 yes andrew that is the intro to california uber alles, read the story they were supposed to perform california uber alles at the bay area music awards to give the show some "new wave credibility" so DEK wrote a song just for the show

  • Anyone have this video live at the Bay Area Music Festival?

  • dang ska

  • Dead Kennedys: showing how a music award show should be since 1980

  • he does say we have to prove we are adults now

  • there saying when you sign for a record label, you sign your life away, because the labels "pull the strings" of the band to make them whatever they want

  • The organizers of the award-show: I won't invite those guys again.

  • At the beginning I'm pretty sure he says "We have to prove we're adults now"

  • Yup. He sarcastically says, "We gotta prove we're adults now. We're not a punk rock band - we're a new wave band."

ps. DROOL, DROOL, DROOL, DROOL, DROOL, DROOL, MY PAYOLA!

  • I always thought he said "we've been approved for adults now"

  • No, it's we gotta prove :))

  • fuck new wave, pop punk and emo

    it's social expression Oi!

  • @8knt666 new pop punk and emo def have their place, but this song is off tap

  • God I love this song!

  • I love tedd with his glass

  • I'm gonna get the chorus of this song and the dk logo tattooed on me somewhere

  • You sound like a poser

  • Great song. Great band.

  • This song still aplys to the music world now! there are to many business men in the world not enough artists.

  • I know, right?

  • you are wrong, kind sir. the rest of DK sold out.

  • i hope you know he had nothing to do with teh OTHERS in the band selling rights to video games. he had no part in that. it was the new kennedys with their new childstar frontman. and as for the royalties thing, i have a feeling it was the other dk members who tried to milk him for all he has. they were the greedy ones.

  • Nah, I know the whole thing about the royalty thing and he wasn't giving them their stuff.

  • Jello for President

  • Biafra 2012

  • JELLO 012

  • AWESOME!

  • id have to say that jello and henry rollins are one of the few smarter people to come out of punk in my opinion
