  • He's doing Buckley, not as good as Buckley.. I don't understand his motivation to do this.

  • I do like some of the melodic stuff Mayer can pull off. Although the haunting sensitiviey and soulful melancholic way Jeff Buckley sang and made music was on a whole other level then John Mayer could manage. With Buckley you felt like every song was a masterpiece and to cover it you would only disgrace yourself.

  • haha that guy is just yelling in the croud!! Yeah!! Buckley!!

  • BUCKLEY!!

  • Maybe I'm to young to keep good love from going wrong...

  • ehhhh...kudus for covering one of my fav songs..but ugh maybe its the quality..but not digging this version and I like mayer

  • Makes me laugh how someone shouts 'BUCKLEY' just to clarify his musical knowlege to everyone else... hahah

  • @TheBarborman lol yea i thought that was funny too

  • @TheBarborman lol good for that guy

  • A good tribute, 'Nuff said. Thank you for sharing.

  • Its quite obvious that no other artist that will grace this planet will compare to Jeff's amazing vocal range and ability to hit those high notes and still make them sound like its the most beautiful thing that will ever reach your ears.

That being said, Mayer did a good job making this song his own and I give him respect for that. Wasnt that bad either compared to the other trash covers out there that ruin the greatness of this song

  • As a huge fan of both artists, I have to say this was an incredible find. Thank you for sharing it!

  • Dude, he actually sings this song really well... although he definitely isn't hitting Jeff's high notes. Not a lot of people can anyway.

  • What does John say (exact words) at the end after the song? I can't quite make out some of what he's saying...

    Thanks

  • Meh, John Mayer sports chubs....

  • nobody can do this song justice.

  • i dunno if i'm just way too much of a john mayer fan, but his voice really fits this song. at least better than jamie cullum.

  • I love John Mayers voice. I don't care what he sings ;-)

  • I can only respect him more after this

  • @andr3braga same goes for me

  • Hey I just started a channel and covered two Buckley songs..check it out! Thanks.

  • It's amazing to see people like John Mayer or Jeff Buckley. They are the type of artists who play with their soul, and very few can achieve this level of intimacy with the audience. Too bad Jeff went soon though. To the haters here: Maybe they could do a duo if Jeff was still alive?

  • What the Fuuuuck!! this guy raped this song! what a waste of time

  • @TheAuttist He didn't brow, both versions are awesome...Chill out.

  • It's so annoying when people complain about covers. It's a tribute you idiots, they're not trying to out do the artist. I'm not even a John Mayer fan, but I can appreciate this.

  • John's one of my favorite people and artists, but this is a terrible cover; Buckley's song (and the fans in the crowd) deserve much more than some cheap, lazy, thoughtless, insensitive rant.

  • that awkward moment when people get pissed about people covering buckley when buckley's most famous song is a cover...

  • @TheStephenKent ...not really...maybe best known, there's a lot more to jeff for his true fans...

  • Don't be fooled! John Mayer is a second rate Jeff Buckley at best!!! He is a total ripoff!!! He thinks he has his sensitivity and vunerability. And tries way too hard to be witty, when dealing with the media. And yet he finds the time to put down the women he has had relationships and has told secrets meant for lovers. There was a mystique to Jeff that John couldn't buy in a million years if he tried. It's more than just musical notes but in character as well. Please refer to, "Grace"...

  • @slopoke2112 I agree. Jeff is a beautiful, mysterious, and captivating character. John, on the other hand, has a cheap mouth. I feel bad for the women he's hurt.

  • who's that asshole screaming ? I'm gonna beat him

  • haha...hate it when i like john meyer's versions the best;)

  • Oh God, this is so wrong

  • His voice is all over the place.

Random bits of falsetto = pretty shit flow

  • Jeff Buckley was not only an amazing singer but a killer good guitarist with a lot of soul! Check out Howie Day's cover of this song, it's also a great cover tribute to JB!

  • no one will ever come close to jeff buckley, ive got no problem with covers..but when they change it a bit/can't sing it properly..i have to go listen to jeff's sweet voice to make me feel better.

  • Clearly some woman dragged her boyfriend, a Buckley fan, to a John mayer concert, and he went ape shit (in the best way possible) when Mayer played this.

That's why this cover is great, John's bringing relationships together. What a lovely guy.

  • great cover of an already amazing song! i never thought anyone would be able to do it justice- jeff would be proud.

  • I'm a big JM fan so please don't bash me for this, but I hated this. I had to go listen to the real song to get the taste out of my mouth.

  • Nice try John, but please keep your generic touch away from the work of Jeff Buckley.

  • It is a compliment to Jeff Buckley for someone with the fame and stature of John Mayer to cover this song, as it was for Jeff to cover Dylan, Zeppelin, Cohen and so on and so on and so on.

  • anyway this song is soooo good, I'm just sad Jeff didn't have time to compose more songs!

  • It makes me extremely happy to see that John covered this. It was done beautifully. By Jeff and John. I bet most of the people hooting and hollering in the background have no idea who Jeff is though, because if they did, no matter who is playing it... they'd be quiet.

  • I'm really happy to know one of my favorite arist covered one song by my another favourite artist.

  • One of my favorite songs to play on guitar big fan of Jeff and John

    R.I.P Jeff Buckley

  • Jeff buckley is top 10 by FAR! dont give a fuck who says otherwise your wrong.

  • No one can compare to Jeff. In my opinion, I think John Mayer killed the song.

  • @AVM1920 He did the best he could, it's hard to match Jeff's version, no matter who you are.

  • @PopCultureSucks Maybe so, but Jamie Cullum rocked his cover of it.

  • Its always good for Jeffs music to reach a broader audience...and this is pretty well done by mayer!

  • Don't give Mayer props for this attempt and say how great he is, he ain't even close, not even close dumbasses, to Buckley. Buckley voted 39th greatest singer in rock history on rolling stone mag on the strength of one finished album. and another half finished. Know anyone else who has done that?

  • @nat00ben06 Go listen to john's live in la performance of Stop This Train, Mayer is the closest thing we have to Jeff Buckley right now. Buckley's voice is definitely more dynamtic, but you'll see in that song JM is getting pretty good that those Buckley-esque large octave vocal changes, not saying he's better(well as a guitarist he is) but I cant really think of anyone today who can really make this type of music, JM is the closest thing.

  • @ak231510 John Mayer is awesome but i'd say the closest thing we have to Buckley right now is the band "ours" with singer Jimmy Gnecco.

  • @nat00ben06 39th all time is bull. Jeff is probably in the top 20 for vocalist of all time....any genre

  • Stop complaining about whether or not this cover is good or bad. Mayer is obviously a fan of Buckleys and is showing his love for the artist by doing this. He is not trying to emulate, capture, or rip off anything. I am a hardcore Buckley fan and have been since the first time I heard him in 1993. Nobody is going to do his songs the way he does and I wouldnt want that. Just showing the respect he deserves by exposing other people to his music in this fashion is enough to make respect an artist.

  • @miser42 I absolutely agree with you. And besides, Jeff did loads of covers, some perhaps not as great. This version is lovely regardless of being better or worse. The world should listen to Jeff (And his dad)

  • @miser42 and Mayer isn't even funny with his in between song banters. This attempt by a professional musician is a true insult to all real Buckley fans if you don't think so then you aint one.

  • @miser42 well said. thank you. i feel the exact same way.

  • You all should check out the Nikhil Korula Band. We have played with John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band, The Roots, Jason Mraz and many more other artists. Colbie Caillat and Sara Bareilles are some of the artists who have opened for us over the years...

  • Too bad Buckley's gone and Mayer's still here.

  • Martin sexton is the best!

  • i feel like st. patrick's day is a swing at this kind of song, in fact i feel like this song pretty much inspired st. patty's day, thoughts?

  • @fishycrossit maybe true, John was always a big fan of Jeff and this song in particular

  • This is a Dis"GRAC''.!!! Mayer is such a wanna be. Don't understand how he has made it thus far.

  • People need to stop trying to replicate Jeff!! It will never happen Jonn.

  • well i would say that he at least covers it better than Jamie Cullum.....

  • I no know constructive. Guess, me can use CAPITALS, and several ??'s. Mayer sucks rectum, and you-there-sucking it. DUH. OMG.

    Side note ;p BUCKLEY ROCKS.

  • What an awful cover. If you're going to cover great music make it your own don't do the same. Mayer has a weak voice, poor guitar skills, and he wishes he were Buckley. This disaster reminds me of Sheryl Crow's cover-your-eyes embarrassing cover of Guns' "Sweet Child". The losers of the nineties are taking full reign nowadays. Bad, bad, bad cover.

  • @fartdanalga Yet, he sings better than you, and owns your ass playing guitar. Honestly, Mayer plays guitar WAYBETTER than Jeff. But, Buckley sings 20 times better. I'm a HARDCORE BUCKLEY FAN, but Mayer does this song justice. Later in the video he says that he promised himself he would never coverJeff B. He is a big fan of him. Plus, your so called"critique" is not constructive, so you can put it up your ass. Are you a Buckley fan?? Looks like you have learned nothing from him or from his music.

  • @Leanbb Constructive? LOL

Intro, Body, Conclusion? Ja ja ja ja.

And no, you're not a hardcore Buckley fan. You discovered Hallelujah on a teen show (who apparently don't know how to use it). You're not hardcore. NO ONE WOULD SAY THIS IS JUSTICE. Buckley is King in vocals and artistry. NEVER,

Mayer is gross and has committed sin with this cover. What a loser,

  • John Mayer covering Jeff Buckley!?! I think I just came in my pants. *_*

  • haha, who screams out "BUCKLEY!!!!!" like that on such a heartfelt song lol

  • wow.

  • Good effort

cant compare to Jeff Buckley though

  • @boomergaty does he really what to do a equal voice?think about it...that's stupid

  • @boomergaty yeah your right this is a good cover but you don't get that emotional feeling like you get from Buckley's

  • I cant believe how judgmental everyone is???

He was playing a show and someone requested the song, so he did it for them. I can not get over how lame it is that people are comparing him to jeff. everytime someone plays a request at a show we shoot them down for not sounding like the original?

And someone wrote in here that john made mistakes in the chords! thats probly one of the funniest things i have ever read.

  • @andriat16 In fact, I'm sure Jeff would have encouraged people to play his songs in any way they see fit.

    1. Because he himself seems to have loved to cover others songs.

    2. I think he would encourage people to do things their own way, and not try to copy someone else.

  • @andriat16 so true man, agreed. I tell you what, it is really scary to see how many stupid people are around ,which you realise when you read youtube comments. Unbelievable.

  • @andriat16 To be fair he doesn't really play the same chords in some places as Jeff. Like the ascending openy chords part and he doesn't do diminished chord leading into "so I wait for you" etc. But man he does a better job of singing this than I could so kudos to him

  • @spongey222 I smell fake kudos... ¬¬

  • @filipeguitarrista83 no no I'm serious. He kicks my arse in the vocal department. He's no jeff but hes in a got a completely different bag and he does a great job of it. Hes a blues singer. Jeff is a freak haha

  • @filipeguitarrista83 Yeah, i wouldn't say Jeff's a freak, more like a troubled artist. You do a great job too, you should invest in some production, like good recordings, thinking about a more artistic/professional posture...My advice as a listener.

  • @andriat16 It amazes me how EVERYTHING that John Mayer plays becomes great.

  • I think it sounds good, he does have a similar voice to Buckley so the songs a good fit.

  • @zurichleader similar voice?you're an idiot..

  • So here's the real story. I recorded this audio on 2002-08-25 in Waco, TX. Earlier in the year John played a a tease of LYSHCO in Dallas (Gypsy Tea Room). Fast forward 6 months and he's playing in Waco.

In between songs when he was tuning I shouted out the request and damn if he didn't play it a few seconds later. The guy screaming randomly is me. Shocked that he played one of my favs. Full audio is on the Live Music Archive for free just search for OFOTD.

  • Please keep in mind that this is just a cover. Nothing more nothing less. No one least of all John is in anyway trying to compare in any way to Jeff.

John took a fan request and played it on the spot. Maybe we should all look at the fact that John is also a Jeff Buckley fan and that somehow and someway maybe more folks will learn of Jeff because of this cover. That's not only NOT a bad thing but to me continues the memory of Jeff.

Quit analyzing it and just enjoy it for what it is.

  • These kind of covers of Jeff's songs makes me appreciate his heavenly voice even more, there was, is, and will be no one with such a sound and soul... Buckley was the best

  • egh. kinda degrading the song. nobody should try to cover this song. EVER!!!! its just too good. jeff buckley is a god

  • john is the man. one of my fav musicians, but this is bad. what's worse is that none of the fans know what the hell he's singing.

  • I think they do, since some yell "Hell yeah, buckley!!!!!"

So I think that means they know, also this is a really hard song to sing, he did a decent job, I hated it when I first heard it, but now I can appreciate it for what it is, instead of comparing john to jeff.

  • i think this is awesome

    love mayer

  • nothing wrong with paying tribute to one of the greatest talents the world has seen.

    nothing wrong at all.

    buckley lives on

  • Yet again, Buckleys amazing vocal range fucks over another musician attempting to cover him. Credit to Mayer (I usually dont like his crappy music) for covering such a classy song. Chords are incorrect in parts too - but I am a perfectionist...

  • look john didnt do this with the intentions of recording it and been broadcasted so that buckley hardcores(like myself) could criticise his vocal execution... fair enough it wasnt great but it was probably just there and then he decided to do the cover.. also doesnt sound as though he was playing in a very big venue as he usually would be.

  • No, no really JMayer is a great musician, I did hear him also do a cover of message in a bottle, it was pretty weak compared to sting as this is to JB. Mayer still is very cool but body is a wonderland and daughters, is not as good as lover or grace or last goodbye or etc. Mayer still is rockin.

  • meh.

not as good as John's rendition of Radiohead's "Kid A"

  • if he can't sing the high notes then he shouldn't mess with this song, at all. very poor job

ps. i'm a john mayer fan

  • This is just terrible. Quote from John Mayer you can find on youtube.

"There are two things people shouldn't do: Push old people down the stairs and cover Jeff Buckley"

He went against his own saying.

  • @landonech where can i find that?

  • its music. another musicians love for another musicians song.

get the fuck over it and let people play what they want to play.

mayer isn't trying to be better than buckley, he is rather sharing his love for jeffs music.

  • I'm sorry it's just a sin to cover this song!!

  • @MissCaptainWeird

then you're calling jamie callum a sinner, as well?

  • well for those who never see him (buckley)....this is a consolation

  • First of all, who the hell are any of you? I don't think John Mayer gives a shit if you don't approve of him doing a cover of your "favorite song." Maybe it's one of his favorite songs, too, and that's why he's covering it.

  • Haha, that guy who kept screaming "BUCKLEY!" is freakin' awesome!

Mayer screwed up my favorite part of the song. :(

  • wtf is that??? pick a different song to kill!!!

  • My favorite Buckley song. Sorry John Mayer but when you can't improve on something then just leave it alone.

  • @laurenredding1 ever think he wasnt trying to improve it?

  • @laurenredding1

understandable. but this could probably fit into the category of tributes, not covers, since it's live...

I bet John Mayer just loves Jeff's music, and is doing it out of personal pleasure... and also to introduce and remind people of his incredible music.

    YEE

  • @laurenredding1 I would respectfully disagree with you completely. I don't think Mr. Mayer is trying to 'out do' Mr. Buckley, instead I see his performance as homage, keeping the dearly departed Mr. Buckley alive in our hearts and minds. Should no one ever play a song simply because they cannot play it better than the original?

  • @MachTwang I guess it's just sentiment from Buckley's cult following. No disrespect for John Mayer, but to me, Buckley's music is untouchable.

  • @MachTwang don't need John Mayer to keep Jeff Buckley alive in my heart. Buckley's music does it on it's own.

  • I'm hip Mayer is great, but the problem always seems to be is when one insist on doing a song after Buckley is like a photograph of a painting. Like comparing Harry Potter to Lord of the Rings. Buckley's songs are masterpieces, I appreciate great efforts by great artists but there still forgeries.

  • which is why he isnt releasing this as a cover on an album like he did Bold as Love, which he definitely improved on. He is covering a song at one random concert which is an awesome thing he does a lot. Listen to what he says at the end, "you dont push old ladys down the the middle of the street and you dont cover Jeff Buckley," so he is well aware of the magnitude of artist Buckey was. He would never try to actually do a true cover cover this is just a tribute at one show, very cool.

  • Sacrilege.

  • this song is from jeff

  • wtf jeff WROTE the song you douchebag

  • how would jeff buckleys version be worse, his singing suited the meanin behind the words perfectly, his singin is impossible to recreate an this song is a momento to that

  • I think I agree, I like John Mayer, but no comparison with Jeff Buckley. Not a good cover at all

  • I just finished listening to Buckley's version of this and there's no comparison. This is terrible.

  • i was at this show in 2002. Strange/Sad but JM is the one who actually introduced me to Jeff Buckley with this very performance.

  • No problem there. I was at a show in 03' and heard him go into 'Lenny' - someone said "This guy does a pretty good SRV". Liked what I heard and bought a SRV album the next day. Loved his music since.

  • @crushme41dmb

which is why everyone should stop bitching about the cover

  • @atroye you owe him quite alot then cause Buckley is a true genius ;)

  • @atroye hear to Howie Day performing this song, i love John Mayer and the way he covers the songs, but Howie Day's cover is so powerfull..

  • +1 with the guitar. Even jimmy paige said he was impressed, and said he sang like plant. Its tough to find but "the way young lovers do" from italy. he lights it up for about 10 seconds if you listen close. like nothing else I'd heard out of him lol

  • hey this is totally out of topic

    i need a girlfriend

i am too tired of crying about this girl for two years straight

  • Good job...

  • no!

  • I have never understood why people think music is a competition. It seems SO childish when people get adamant about it. Does someone else's favourite somehow inhibit your own ability to appreciate your preference?

When one artist performs a cover, it's a TRIBUTE - it's an expression of inspiration, of their love of the music of the other artist.

Chris Cornell said Jeff was "fearless" in his music. To tackle such a big song knowing the inevitable comparisons, it seems John has that trait too..

  • This is by far the best comment I have ever seen on youtube.

Everyone . . . take notes from Stephanie. If some song/artist/band isn't your cup of tea, don't try to bring it down for the rest of us.

  • @crushme41dmb I completely agree!!

  • @crushme41dmb crush don't tell us what to do. Jeff was fearless cause he could pull off whatever he wanted and make it sound as good or better, Mayer is so full of ego and everybody telling him he's great that he thought the same, but you can hear the result yourself he fell flat on his face, in fact he should quit half way through and apologize for screwing the song up.

  • Soooooo well said. Thankyou!!

  • @DitzyStephanie perfectly said!

  • he's no Jeff Buckley

  • OH EM GOSH

john mayer is my FAVORITRE singer

and L=Lover You Should've Come Over is my FAVORITE song...

orgasmic genius cover for a very happy lacey :)

  • I love that guy in the audience that keeps screaming "BUCKLEY!" XD

  • Now I am a huge fan of both John and Jeff....but I must say that I have not heard anyone truly pull off a Buckley tune...

  • Agreed...Having only just discovered John Mayer, he's one of my favourite new artists (i know he's been around for a while). But yeah...a nice tribute to Jeff, but no-one's got his range. And unfortunately, only a handful of people in modern music have his amount of talent. Sorely missed.

  • @StarfishYoga Yeah you're right no one can I think....but I agree with your comment thanks for posting it.

  • Nice cover... wish the audio was better...

  • Even tho it's obvious that i'm biased :-P

There isn't a winner on this topic...

    No one is right....

    No one is necissarily wrong....

In closing, The last two minutes of John cover of 'Lover' is kinda half assed and lame. At 4:49 he does a little scat...... really John?.....is that necessary?

  • Listen to Jeff's cover of 'Satisfied Mind' on the sketches album; or 'Forget her'.

Jeff was essentially a folk/blues musician who dabbled in alternative and pop music (last goodbye is an example).

John is essentially a Pop musician who dabbles in blues. Like I said earlier, yea, he can play guitar well.

But it is hard to compare guitarists and say which one is better. John Mayer might have been more skilled. But Jeff's guitar playing was more original than Mayers.

    Case closed

  • I personally think Jeff at his worst live is still far better and exciting than watching John Mayer live. Jeff had much more soul and charisma than Mayer.

It's silly to compare the two. They are musicians who had completely different goals and styles.

But don't say that John Mayer's guitar playing is innovative........ really? He's good at spitting out blues scales/solos, but it's HARDLY original or innovative.

  • nice cover by john mayer.. fk that though, jeff was the best. better voice IMO, a divine voice 4 octave range, crazy improvisation on guitar and mic, the most underrated 1 album artist.. some people can't stomach him though, god bless him.

  • @Vansterdam1 you speaka da troot. Buckley unbelievable. Amazing, wish dat fucking river would dry up.

  • word

  • John Mayer is a better guitarist that Jeff........BUT!

'Lover' isn't a guitar driven song, It's VOCAL driven, like all of Jeffs songs.

Mayer's voice doesn't compare to Jeff's and never will. Jimmy Page said he was the best vocalist of his generation and the past 30 years. If you don't believe me, why don't we phone him up : )

Here's the facts: He was a tenor capable of reaching a falsetto pitch. A tenor's range in the bass clef spans middle C to high F. Jeff's actual range was four octaves.

  • Well, John Mayer is covering Jeff's song not the other way round, and it's not like he's really doing the best job.

And you can't base talent on mere facts.

When I listen to John Mayer, his songs are average, you know, lyrics are alright.

When I listen to Jeff, I feel that his lyrics are so much more in depth, his voice miles ahead of John's and his guitar skills are much more unique than John's. You wouldn't hear music like Jeff's nowadays. Yet, you hear music like John's all the time.

  • Ok, Jeff didn't just pick it up and play, no matter what a book says, not even Jimi Hendrix did that.

And I listened to that 'Way young lovers do' live at sin-e, and I am still yet to see proof of JB being better better than JM.

I don't really think JB is very good live anyway really.

I don't know why its so hard to accept that John is a better guitarist, if you don't believe me then lets phone eric clapton and ask his opinion?

  • It took him some effort, but not to the same extent that it took John. He might not have just picked it up and played, but he was much more natural than John is.

This cover that John played of Jeff's original proves it. To be honest, I feel this version is pitiful in comparison, it's messy and average.

And I don't need Eric Clapton to tell me that John Mayer is better because, in my opinion he is nothing at all compared to Jeff. I don't need Eric Clapton to create my opinions for me.

  • And you can't compare a song like "Waiting on the World to Change," with a song like, "Mojo Pin".

It's obvious who's a hell of a lot more original, and it's definitely not the first song.

  • Jeff was the better singer, and John is the better guitarist.

Its obvious to me that he just learned to play this song without the intention of going out and playing it, he just decided to spontaneously, so no wonder it sounds 'pitiful'.

You need to accept, John is a FAR better guitarist.

  • I don't need to 'accept' ANYTHING. Your opinion is YOUR opinion, NOT mine.

Just as my opinion stands, and I think that John Mayer is not in the least a comparable musician to Jeff. John Mayer pretty much sucks, in my opinion of course. Inside and out.

Maybe not in yours, but we'll just have to agree to disagree. I don't need to accept what others tell me to, unlike some people, I'd rather form my own opinion and you know what my opinion is.

  • I am not speaking from an opinion, its completely fact.

The conversation i started was never about a better musician, it was about the better GUITARIST.

Which John is, and if your gonna say John sucks, how about I say, Jeff sucked live and when he tried to improvise the vocal melody a bit it always sounded shit. Which I have evidence of.

  • FACT! Whatever.

Who are you, judge of all that is true because you say so?

Sorry, but you're far from it.

We now live in a civilisation where varying opinions are embraced, which in this case, is inevident.

If you have evidence that Jeff is 'shit', I have evidence John is worse. Listen to 'Waiting on the World to Change'. There are about a million songs that sound exactly the same, yet none that sound quite like Jeff, so get your 'facts' right before you start telling ME what to accept.

  • Your such a bellend, I said he always did shit things live. I was a buckley fan long before mayer, i think he is amazing.

But John IS the better guitarist, it is not opinion its fact. Jeff was the better singer FACT, john is better guitarist FACT.

Also, I bet you know fuck all about guitar playing and what is good. Do you even play?

  • "FACT"? Once again, I'm still disagreeing with you and you're not going to change my mind.

Unless you're going to get out a fucking encyclopaedia that states clearly in writing that John is a better guitarist than Jeff, then it's clearly not fact.

I don't need to play, to know what is good because I'm entitled to my own opinion.

And don't bet on it dude, don't assume you know anything about me because I've been playing since I was seven.

  • Like I said before, this conversation is getting extremely dull.

I think Jeff's a better guitarist, you think John's better.

I'm going to leave it at that because to be honest, I'm getting bored here. I accept your opinion, so accept mine and get over it.

  • I understand what you were trying to relay to the gentleman. It's not a matter of 'opinion' when facts are involved. Jeff Buckley uses the guitar as an accompaniment instrument as most "Singers" do. He is a singer first guitar player second. As with John, guitar player first Singer second. Jeff went before his time so who's to say how his playing would've developed. But where he was.. he's not even touching Keith Urban, Brad Paisley.. these guys made a living off of just playing guitar.

  • Jeff Buckley was actually a very good guitar player. The reason we don't recognize his guitar playing is because his songs didn't feature enamorous solos. But he can solo. Trust me. Even in the BBC documentary they say he knew all the 80's technical wizardry. And I think I saw a vid of him playing the beginning of The Spirit Of Radio, but anyway, he was a good guitar player and if he were alive today he probably would've been more recognized for both his amazing guitar ability and his singing...

  • Hey man, I agree with you. But listen 2 Jeff's version of Eternal Life from live at Sin-e. He could play the shit out of a guitar. I think you'll dig it. Mayer is probably better still, but buckley was sick.

  • I have to disagree with you man... If Clapton, Presley, MJ and Mayer are Kings, Buckley and Mercury are the Emporers !

  • Very right. Buckley went to guitar school. (G.I.T in Hollywood) He could shred like a mofo but chose not to.
