The burmese python on my channel belongs to my friend. A very cool snake, but far from my favorite. The snake world has oh so many species!

I may be getting my first snake soon and am torn between a ball python or a kenyan sand boa. Which do you think would be a better beginner snake? Which species tends to be more docile and tolerant of handling?

Take the ball, little bit more snake then the sand boa.

Just make sure you don't get a farm bred or wild captured animal. ;)

Thanks for getting back to me. How do I avoid farm-bred animals? I'm planning on going to a local reptile expo this September, which is most likely where I'll get a ball python (you've convinced me). :)

Look online to find out what vendors will be at the Expo and do a little research about them, but most likely at an expo nearly all will be Captive Bred which is what you want.

Most Farm breds are sold in little pet stores together with dog and cat food.

On a Reptile expo youre most likely only see Captive bred.

i'm 16 and have only been keeping snakes for a year and have already been biten by a dumerils boa, two carpet pythons, a corn snake, a nelson milksnake, and a 8 foot burmese python and just yesterday i got bit on the wrist right on the vein by a baby red tail haha

pretty much like when it happen i got my dad to come in my room to help but he's terrified of them and wont touch them so i had to stick my other hand in her mouth and open it while trying to get her from wraping around my arm.

it sucked big time and it didnt stop bleeding til like 15 mins later.

my hand bruised really bad like a dark purple, but no matter what i'm still gonna love my burm")

All 5 of my ball pythons are very docile. One of them will be jumpy from time to time, but has never struck at me.

Pittsburgh will be tough again this year. But believe it or not I think it is the Patriots this year that will capture 1 of the 2 best records, can't wait for preseason!

P.S. So there is no confusion, I hate both the Steelers and Patriots. And I feel sorry that your bears will be destroyed by my packers (haha, yeah right).

its more of a fear thing not pain kinda thing with getting bite by snakes that are less than 5 feet general unless its a tree snake cuse they tend to have longer teeth and that could just make u bleed for a while and if they dont let go u might need some stiches

Nice Rosie. Mine has only bitten me once. Only because she was hungry and could probably smell the mouse I had handle prior to taking her out to feed. She tagged me on the finger, drew some blood, left a few teeth, all is good. How many snakes do you have and what types? Do you keep anything other than snakes?

0.1 woma python

0.1 rosy boa

1.1 kenyan sand boas (anerythristic, snow)

0.1 Tartar sand boa

Thats it for reptiles, other than that I have an African Grey Timneh Parrot, 2 cats, fish, 1 rat and 1 rabbit.
