I then started preparing for Metroid: Other M's release by playing through more Mario and Metroid games (namely Metroid Prime, SMW, Super Metroid, and SM64).

Now you want to talk about an otherwise amazing game with a truly disappointing final boss, look no further than RE4.

More seriously, while Samus is pretty strong, she doesn't just relies on her athletic skills but also on weapons. Mario only has a hammer (and doesn't even use it in the main series games) and fights equally as strong monsters. So, that'd make him stronger than Samus.

Even though you can play that game, they have no records and-or memory of the event because they blew out Solaris' flame, thus that game never TRULY happened. Mario is the best, and nobody can change that.

And Sonic and Elise still remember the events. But Sonic doesn't recognize Silver in Sonic Rivals, so I assume it was still eventually erased from his mind due to the fact it pretty much didn't happen. Which makes Sonic '06's ending much less sad and significant (in a good way).
