  • i love your vids chef john. you not only explain your recipies brilliantly, but you choose recipies that are appealing to the masses and are TASTY!

sidenote: im a chef from australia, and grits are such an exotic food, im glad i found your video to understand the cooking of grits!

  • I enjoyed this so much. I'm going to watch a lot of your videos. 'Wuss' or 'Wursh' who gives a crap, I just want my food to taste food.

  • I'm sorry but I can't stop giggling at how you pronounce Worcestershire.

    I'm far too easily amused.

  • @Grimmykin thats how my folks always pronounced it, very american but its common pronunciation

  • @SSPanzerPredator

I think its because its so close to correct, but not quite that I find it amusing.

    Its 'wuss' not 'wursh'.

  • Nice as ALWAYS!

  • omg that looks soo freaking good!!!

  • MAKE Ribs Mmmmmmmmmmmm

  • Cream and lemon? Say whaaaaaaaaaat?

  • @ 1:44 he says "dump your shrimp inn" , Because he's afraid to say 'put your shrimp inn' xD

  • I’m a pure southerner! Born, raised and currently residing in Alabama. I think your shrimp n’ grits recipe is one of the best I’ve ever tried! You’re welcome in my Southern kitchen anytime!

  • I'm still not sure what grits are... Sorry - I've never heard of the word before (in culinary circles anyway)

  • @Moontess grits = fine semolina

  • @mc4102 Actually ground up Hominy from the corn family

  • @wbj509 european grits = fine semolina

    american grits = corn derived

  • @mc4102 Sorry about that, wasn't aware of origin - :)

  • Chef John, you kill me.

  • love my grits

  • KISS MY GRITS" lmao

  • i'm from the uk wot are grits?

  • @paullees557104 Basically Grits are grains if that makes since. When you buy them they are dry then you boil them in water an they become thick an creamy an you can dress them up any way you like. Grits are a lot like Oat meal. Thick, hardy an they tick to your stomach keeping you full for a very long time lol

  • @MrSexxxy20

    thanks for the explanation !

    =)

  • @azntranc3951 Your welcome :-)

  • @MrSexxxy20 grits is ground corn. and this recipe looks delicious!

  • @livesimply70 ahha!! an all these years I though grits were grains LOL Thanks.

  • @livesimply70 I never had grits before. But I guess you could substitute farina. Same thing except it's ground wheat instead of corn. Looks the same anyway. What do you think?

  • @TheRabidPosum hi! i'm not familiar with farina. i do know that grits can be a substitute for rice in that it's a filling carb-rich food that is good with flavorful, seasoned gravies and sauces served over it. in some african cultures, grits (called by many different names) are prepared the same way and almost always served with a spicy sauce or meat. in the south (U.S.), we eat them mostly for breakfast with eggs and sausage, but we also enjoy them as main dinner dishes like in this video. :)

  • @livesimply70 You never had farina (cream of wheat)? Wow, north and south seem to still have differences lol. Well up here, although it's not as huge as grits in the south, is exclusively a breakfast cerial, like oatmeal. Thick, rich, creamy, hearty, fix it anyway you like. Usually topped with, maple syrup, honey, brown sugar, fruit. Funny you mention eggs and sausage, that's usually what I make it with, but simple just a little butter, milk, and sugar.

  • @livesimply70 I would be courious to here from anyone who is familiar with both to see it there is a big difference. I notice 1 big difference in the cooking. Farina cooks FAST, about a minute. Once you add it to the boiling water you have to stand over it and keep stiring fast, or it will stick and get lumps. You can't walk away. And you don't want to let it sit, you have to serve it right away or it will get gelatanised and rubbery.

  • This looks delicious!

  • i'm starving now

  • I made this without jalapeno it was good

  • @shesobreezy thats goos, if ur a newfie in canada u know this off by heart lol

  • @shesobreezy also only the seeds are hot, the jalapeno that has no seed is mild

  • it is authentic humble chef!

  • Why don you use non-stick skillet instead...!?

...or a cast-iron skillet works better...!?

  • The lemon juice doesn't curdle the cream?

  • @MalkavianHand It has been a while since I've read On Food and Cooking but I believe dairy products with a higher milk fat content don't curdle as easily.

  • @inept0 Oh okay, makes sense, than you!

  • My annivercary is march13 a few weeks away can you give me a good recipie for duck or how to cook it really nice for my hubby??

  • outstanding woooo weeeeeeee man thats uptown all the way

  • Yumm!

  • Kiss my grits!!

  • I love shrimp and grits! I take the tails off the shrimp before I cook them though. Easier to eat that way.

  • I like this recipe. EXCEPT, I did something different. For the sauce. I added a little bit of brandy and reduced of course. And I think it turned out great. Added a really nice smooth sweetness to the sauce.

  • @spaceoo My teacher can't eat pork why? Then again somepeople can't eat grits?...

  • suck my grits lmao

  • love it, love you , your the best!

  • Leviticus 11:10

"And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:"

  • @derekdb2 Anything without a neck shouldn't be eaten also - which means bacon is also a problem.

But later on in the new testament I think, it did say that anything blessed with prayer is fine to eat. I don't know where the quotes are, but it did indeed say this. But then again it's really personal interpretation that makes the difference.

    Otherwise, it's a good recipe.

  • perfect for brunch!

  • ahha "coated with seasonin'"

  • be a Pizza Angel with Pizza Take Out, the iPhone game (app) that helps fight World Hunger!!!

  • Chef John is the man I go to when I'm looking for a recipe done right. chefs John should have his own tv spot on food network. The TV show John mentions was ALICE the woman who coined "KISS MY GRITS" was Flo... a spicy but feisty waitress.

  • Chef John is the man I go to when I'm looking for a recipe done right. chefs John should have his own tv spot on food network.

  • i hate how im watching this knowing i cant eat this cuz im allergic to shrimp D;

  • yup lol...and im not american and i know you all have weird foods over there =p

  • WTF is grits ? =\ semolina or something similar?

  • @peachesdeity u musted be white :) lol

  • @peachesdeity It's ground corn cooked into a hot cereal. It's most common in the southern US.

  • @peachesdeity dude im a NY boy (brooklyn) and when i moved to GA said the same thing... TRY IT freakin tastes delicious especially w/ some cheese like he did! it kick arse~

  • @peachesdeity Its coarsly ground ground. Think of corn version of cream of wheat or a polenta like dish.

  • @TheApple128k I use the corn meal in place of farina or cream of wheat when I feel like having hot cereal..try it it's so good. cook it like you would cream of wheat or grits. I use both yellow and white corn for the hot cereal.

  • @peachesdeity Coarsely Ground corn. Think of it like polenta, or a corn version of cream of wheat.

  • I really like ur videos, although i dont cook lol. BTW ur stuff are simple to do but give incredible tasting in result :D

  • make a recipe on how to make a frozen pizza

  • Why do I always watch your videos on an empty stomach?

  • I love this manz recipe.. itz more on point with the taste and ingredients..

  • That looks amazing. DROOL!

  • that looks soo goood

  • really loving this !!!!!!

  • Is gritz just...polenta? =[ I don't know what it is

  • @splitza

    yeah, it is

  • @splitza -Polenta is very similar. It is made from ground yellow corn. Grits are made from ground corn as well. The white grits he is speaking of is made from ground hominy. I am sure the recipe could be made with either and still taste wonderful.

  • delicious

  • forgot i had 2 lbs of shrimp in the freezer... guess i'm gonna have shrimp today

  • yum yum give it to me now lol

  • Hmm sounds pretty good. I don't like grits much but maybe the shrimp and bacon improves the taste.

  • Looks sooo good.

  • Haha ur funny use white grits don't use any other color apperently it's a moral sin! Kiss my grits!! Oh and it looks delicious

  • @muffin1babe Maybe he's just creating time to finish explaining the steps.

  • lol, you've got to be pretty neurotic for that to bother you that much.

I'm guessing he stirs that way (delicately) so he doesn't break up the ingredients.

  • @vinylreality - We all have our neurosises, I certainly can't blame someone for having things bug them.

And I agree, he looks like he is choosing to 'roll' his food rather than 'shove' it.

  • OMG!! Mmmmmm this looks soooo good!

  • great video!!! "kiss my grits"

  • foodwishes, This video rocks.

  • White grits are the best, although i use chicken broth for extra flavor... And, i use a lot less liquid because i like my grits really thick... that watery looking mush is gross lol

  • kiss my grits is from the south its a nicer way of saying kiss my a**.

  • LOL THIS guys profile pictures looks like how Hitler would turn out if he were a food lover

  • Hmm here Grits are the nickname of the Liberal Party. :P

  • Love shrimp, however, most shrimp in the US in imported from Asian countries. Those countries have little to no standards for pollution. So if you eat Asian shrimp, most likely you're eating stuff you would NEVER put in your body.

  • Unless you live along the coast, in which case, you should always get it from the local shrimpers/fishermen. Support U.S. shrimp!

  • @yoohoos if it doesnt kill the shrimp it aint going to kill me. and besides just how much shrimp a year do i eat 2 pounds at most. so unless they were floating belly up in mercury sause im digging in. please have some common sense. did you know the 3 rd cause of death in america is medical mistakes. are you avoiding hospitals and doctors offices just like like asian shrimp? well how about it?

  • if you have to ask, you shouldn't know.

  • LOL thats brilliant, re read your sentence.

    Clap

    Clap

    Clap

  • ground up corn basically i never had them myself either

  • ahhh ty

  • if you don't know grits, then you don't know nuthin!

  • grits are a white homey which is like a corn. its ground down to a medium grind and people cook them usually for breakfast. this is very similar to polinta .

  • ty!

  • I drooled a river.

  • Most people don't know how to cook grits. They never put enough salt or butter or cook them long enough which is the main reason they are mostly yuck! Those instant quick grits are the worst. Yellow stone ground grits are the best which is similar to polenta.

  • love your shrimp recipe, just not a fan of the grits, but ill find a good substitute. thankS!

  • "Kiss my grits", Flo, from the show, "Alice". lol.
