  • I came for the police but i stayed for the chicks.

  • GROSSARTIG!

  • Stewart Copeland wrote this and it is good, from the LP Regatta de Blanc

  • Song entrances me. I love this tune.

  • Fascination mystifies me. All I can think is poor fool too bad it wasn't a cupcake. But that being said thx 4 the vid. :)

  • More girls that need a sandwich and a cup of soup. Depressing.

  • @bluematter Neither Monica Belucci nor Franka Potente appear to me to be malnourished. You're over-generalizing.

  • @holguinero60 um ...i luv um that way....with living by a cematary yum

  • stare

  • What the hay is this?

  • Love the song but the first chick in this slide show looks like she's about to pass out from malnutrition.

  • Just read Police book-Walking On The Moon-now have to revisit these old songs!!!

  • I love this song too Jools! One of my faves by them but it seemed to be overlooked by most folks. Hillarious, creative lyrics! And the thing is, all of us dudes have met at least one woman in our lives-no matter how confident we may be-who absolutely does this to us! Nice slide show, thanks for sharing Brother. Peace!

  • @redfishradical thanks for watching, and I'm glad you got the point of the slide show, those women that just turn you into a useless idiot. take care bro

  • @redfishradical Agree with everything you say BUT I don't find this lyrics funny having lived them

  • This song reminds me of Steely Dan.

  • @capnflukie Yep it does too!

  • great taste for music, and great taste for women (Marion Cotillard is an angel). I love this song, did they ever played it live?

  • missing one thing...hellen miram

  • @Simon4642 Yeuch!

  • Beautiful video witth beautiful soundtrack!

  • marion cotillard

  • 0:23

  • I've just realized that i can't tell white girls apart; at some point they just start to look the same. Amazingly beautiful, but the same.

  • @suburiboy LOL. All white people don't look the same. Just these girls do, because they're models.... You know how it is in the modeling world.

  • @suburiboy Well, the hair and eyes vary for a start.

  • My favourite band forever, ever since I was a kid listened to them & that Copeland remains my favourite all time drummer. NEVER ever heard any drummer like him, so complex and graceful. He has everything a drummer would ever dream of.

  • why chicks? I WANT STEWART,STING,ANDY

  • One of my favourite police songs.

  • WHo's at :56?

  • @spewey111 Doutzen Kroes

  • Great song, beautiful ladies, thank you!

  • 1:54 Who IS that?

  • @youpatrikduncan Monica Bellucci

  • quel veinard ce CASSEL! il ne doit pas se faire chier avec une bombe atomique comme MONICA!!!!

  • did u hear Pavrotti singing on this? i was shocked to find out & then i wiki'd Pav & he is also a libra like sting!!!! thus the voice...kudos to boat of u's...LOL

  • "I changed my clothes 10 times before I take you on a date", that's genius lol

  • carice van houten -- you´re a connoisseur!!!

  • I had forgotten this great song. What a great idea for a video. Simple. Brilliant.

  • 1:35 wins obviously... : )

  • 1:36 - 2:23

  • Stewart Copeland wrote the best Police songs.

  • fijn!

  • Excellent track & vid, thanks :)

  • ok she's a lil hottie

  • i love the opera sample thrown in there when it transitions from the lo-fi sound to the clean sound. ah such a good band (-:

  • @antsorter That operatic voice in the first verse is a pretty cool story. The first verse was recorded by Stewart, at his home studio, with Stew singing and playing piano. The bass guitar in the first verse was added later. At the end of the first verse, a radio broadcast was picked up and recorded of a man singing opera. That's why they kept Stewart's first verse and ditched the rest of the demo, it just sounded cool.

  • @typsypyg haha now that's pretty damn cool 8)

  • my shots will always miss...

  • Who is at 1:04 ? Jessica Biel ?

  • @Francesco23563 doutzen kroes

  • @jools182 She looks like she hasn't slept in a few days there.

  • @jools182 Great song, awesome babes, Great job.

  • I've always dug this track and I thought I was the only person ever who did. I think this is about a potential stalker. Defintely a really paranoid, insecure guy. What lets the song down is the versus which kind of lead nowhere. Having said that I've learnt to love them :)

  • Monica Bellucci! Wow.

  • 15 Oktober 2010 : STING will come too Arnhem, Holland !!!!

    Sympfonie in rosso !!!!

I WILL BE THERE !!!!! YOU TOO ????????

  • Who's the girl at 1:06 and 1:13?

  • @redhead16 Carice van Houten

  • Stewart tu es énorme, cette chanson traverse le temps sans une ride

  • También es muy buena Murder by numbers.

  • Also, Has anyone ever noticed the slip up on the piano at 1:03?

  • @rogerthatrocks I don't there is one. Not noticing it. Maybe it's the bass you're hearing?

  • Believe it or not this song was written by Stewart Copeland. Best band ever! Some other people mentioned Miss Gradenko which was written by Copeland.

  • does everyone stares - miss gradenko - it's alright for you - friends - the bed's to big without you - contact - be my girl...

every fucking song of this band is fantastic,

no just message in a bottle, synchronicity and roxanne, The Police...the best!!

  • who's the girl in the first few pictures?

amazing song, have the police box set, just discovered this song on it today.

  • Marion Cotillard.

  • if the police had released this song with this video it wud have charted very very high

  • AWESOME!

  • Very underrated song!

    0:55 - 1:04 Marry me!

  • Great song and very underrated! 0:55 - 1:04 Marry me!!!!

  • kill me for saying this... but... The Police are my favourite band ever. and i mean that. everything they do is pure gold. i cant complement them enough.

  • @GUINNESSGARY83 c'est pourtant leurs meilleur titre;DEATHWISH n'est pas mal non plus...

  • Reggatta de Blanc...one of all-time favorite albums...every song. I love all of their albums though.

  • Vive le Franke! If you thing you might be a bassist, get a bass and amp and learn outlandos d'amour.

  • As an aspiring bass player at the time, I remember getting this song down and playing it over and over and never getting tired of it.,it was and still is one of my fave bass lines to ever play.its killer.I always looked for this song live and even bought a few covers of it. sadly its a very.. VERY underated piece of music here. Regatta De Blanc has to be one of the greatest albums ever recorded.long live The Police !

  • It is somewhat ironic that one of the best Police tunes, in my opinion, was written by Stewart Copeland. Clearly a very talented guy.

  • Ms Gradenko was great too!

  • Just fantastic..

  • this blows me away evrytime i hear it.... i was a police fan when i was 9 years old , and my mum got me this for xmas in 1979... i couldn't believe the tracks on regatta de blanc , they were so good and never played on the radio !!! the beds too big withyou , bring on the night etc etc... i never get tired of this

  • Clem,

Absolute, ditto! I used to get my moms sandwiches boxes and nan's knitting needles and drum to everything after getting Regatta in 1979.

  • I thought the opera thing had to be on purpose. Copeland is big on opera. Anyway it really sets the mood, somewhat reflective of the ego and drama we have as teenagers. I wish they had maybe went a bit farther with this miraculous mistake. One of the best police songs along with Andy's omegman but you never hear any of it on the radio. Shame....

  • Questa canzone è stupenda, la voce di Sting è molto sexy, ma l'accostamento con le foto non mi piace!

  • Yes, an amazing track. First heard it in 79-80. Played it while summing up the courage to ask a girl out. Still is haunting and beautiful

The pictures are a nice touch especially like Franke Potent

  • this song really affected me as an awkward teenager, loved it then and now

  • One of the best Police tunes ever recorded.

  • Outlandos d'Amour was better.

  • The first verse was recorded in Stewart's home studio, with the bass overdubbed later. The male opera voice was picked up while Stewart was recording that first verse. It was in the same key and kind of creepy, so they kept the demo first verse and recorded the rest of the song in the studio.

  • So my friend thinks this is my themesong... Any thoughts on the explanation? :o

  • any photos?

  • very underated police track, shame cause i think its brilliant

  • I remember buying Reggatta De Blanc for my 13th birthday i went to my friends house to play the album and this song just stood out i just love it. My favourite Policeman wrote it and sang the first verse he had me hooked.

    Leni. ;o)

  • @4bdemon666 The whole album is truly great

  • @4bdemon666 i think you're right. i uploaded it on my mp3player

  • Reggata de Blanc is my favorite album ever. I wish there was a video of the band recording it.

This appealing video reminds me of 2 things I've always wondered about: is the "opera" fragment Sting or a sample (all noises by The Police, said the back cover), and what's the meaning of "my shots will always miss"?

    Thanks for this clip.

  • the "opera"part was something that came through Andy's amp unintentionally and they kept it in!

  • Thanx

  • dear jools,

one of my favourite songs and one of the most consequent songs of The Police.

and i do share your taste espiacially monica and the french one in the last third.

    i think it's a good approach..~

    alexander.

  • I always looked at this song this way, only TRUE Police fans know it and love it..the casual fan wouldn't know what we were talking about.this tune in my opinion has one of the greatest fade-out verses ever.the song is sparse musically which lends to its brilliance.simple piano chords and KILLER bass lines.a song about being overcome with fear of making a fool of ones self, of shooting one's self in the foot. i know I have certainly been there.

  • well said my man.

  • 2:48 Run Lola Run?

  • In my opinion, awesome song, crappy video. It defeats the object of the song, why not have a video of one woman? not 100 different women~

"I only look this way at you" < get it?

  • because not everyone has the same taste

    get it?

  • what's this reggae beat,,,i stoill don't like reggae.

  • this is a very ingenious song, for a rock song... long time ago I tried hard to know its chords... in some part the bass play the note Eb and the piano G Mayor and later the bass Bb and the piano again GM... that's pretty crazy, and sounds right!! never understood the words, except some parts of course... working on my english

  • @DiazdelVivar i remember i tried playin this in my piano (and i never went to music school) it sounds so simple yet very difficult to play...but i tried again and again thats how much i liked it!

  • @mrD66M i bet you were FEELING IT too hee hee

  • what's the visual rubbish? my alternate name is 'heteroboy'

  • Lots of pictures of very attractive women. You find that a problem.....?

  • being a girl, yeah i do!, why the hell can't i enjoy a decent police song without being reminded of the bullshit oppression i have to go through every f*cking day~

  • Don't flatter yourself.

  • how am i flattering myself?

  • Is everyone staring at you, too?

  • the song is from the point of view of a man obsessed with an unobtainable woman

  • @jools182 I'm sorry but I'm afraid you jools182 are the "numb nuts". milkbun7 is right. This is a love song, not a lust song. To be honest, the video annoyed me a little too. You listen to the lyrics. The woman is not unattainable. They go out on a date so she's not a movies star on a screen. It's his feelings of inadequacy that make him ask the question.

  • The whole point of the song is that she is most likely not a world-class beauty, she's probably ordinary looking. When he asks if everyone stares, the answer is probably, "no". But it's his immense love for her that makes him feel that the answer is, "yes". "My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun..." Get it?

  • @Nedasnothere

    who said anything about lust?

are you saying no-one falls in love with beautiful women, just ordinary looking ones?

and by unobtainable I meant the feeling of inadequacy he has when he is with the girl, he feels he is going to fail or mess it up

  • listen to the lyrics of the song, numb nuts

  • This song stands out on the Regatta album with its piano, but it is one of the best songs because EVERY man can relate to it.... Oh yeah, Stewart kicks ass as usual on this one!

  • "I never noticed the size of my feet until I kicked you in the shins"-classic Stewart Copeland lyric

  • i like this track so much that I've tried 2 sample the instrumental yrs ago but it was too difficult so i grabbed my rm1x n reinvented it with a hint of hip-hop.

    Good stuff

  • Thank you for this post, a 1,000 times over. This is one of their best five, IMO...

  • The Police are one of my favourite bands and Regatta De Blanc is easily their best album. This song is a classic written by Stewart Copeland.

  • Great song! For some reason, I had forgotten this gem. But, as always, every song from the Police is magic!!

  • This song makes me think of U.F.O.'s Don't know why, it just does.

  • Special to me. Great to hear it again. Thankyou.

  • beautiful song,great memories...thanks

  • nice girl...great song

  • I love this album. Top notch

  • This rocks!

  • Simply wonderful!This song is a masterpiece!!!

  • Great song - I love it

  • Hotties, what is this

  • I typed "does everyone stare police" into the search field; didn't think it would be here. Thank you so much! This is a Stuart Copeland song... and it holds up over time... Many police songs that I loved in the 80s don't impress me anymore. This one impresses me MORE today. Those insane piano chords. The crazy harmony intervals. And the lyrics that perfectly capture the horrible feeling of romantic awkwardness.

  • I was so tempted to get the DJ to put this one on at prom last year, but my sister would have killed me.

  • monica bellucci is preposterously hot.

  • Thanks man! Great post!

  • Cheers!

    Brilliant!

  • One of my favorite Police songs ever! I would've preferred some really hot guys to "stare" at but oh well.

  • Finally Someone Puts This Song On Thanx Love It.

  • dude, why are so many people ticked off with your comment? it's innocent...couldn't help but notice...

  • i dont know kinda weird

  • Wasn't very graciously put.

  • Great song! My favorite as well! Thanks1

  • Cheers Jools :)

A fav song of mine, and a great reason for staring....
